I'm on the floor right now after having seen the recently uploaded Siskel and Ebert 1987 Holiday Gift Guide. http://siskelandebert.org/video/XWK43WB6OA73/1987-Holiday-Gift-Guide Some of the highlights: -Gene makes a video in which he pretends to be Roger and insults the poo poo out of him. -Roger making his own movie which is essentially just stealing footage from Citizen Kane and then changing the punchline of the movie. -Gene doing an awful job at drawing on the screen for the program Winky Dinks. -Gene placing his photo in those cheesy your-photo-here video tapes and then getting really pissed off about not being able to interact more with Lady Lovelylocks (I laughed a full two minutes at this).

How the hell have none of you posted this yet? http://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/deuce-bigalow-european-gigolo-2005 quote:But Schneider is correct, and Patrick Goldstein has not yet won a Pulitzer Prize. Therefore, Goldstein is not qualified to complain that Columbia financed "Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo" while passing on the opportunity to participate in "Million Dollar Baby," "Ray," "The Aviator," "Sideways" and "Finding Neverland." As chance would have it, I have won the Pulitzer Prize, and so I am qualified. Speaking in my official capacity as a Pulitzer Prize winner, Mr. Schneider, your movie sucks.

It probably goes without saying, but I really really miss reading Ebert's reviews for new films. I usually hate Nostalgia Critic stuff but his retrospective on Siskel & Ebert a few years back was great.

I really miss the reviews of really bad movies. Like if a movie that you just know is a stinking piece of poo poo is released, I occasionally wonder how Siskel & Ebert would have torn it apart and then I get depressed. I'm just going to go and lie down now.

Last Chance posted:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5bWkv0eV3M There was another instance, I think with King Kong Lives, where they revealed that they couldn't show the clip because the studio didn't want them to talk it for their Worst of the Year or something like that. The one thing I miss more than ever was when Ebert would give the Wagging Finger of Shame to movies that were refused critic screenings. Ebert introduced the concept in 2005, but critic banning films had been going on for decades before that I'm surprised he didn't introduce it sooner.

Yeah, but they also knew that their rivalry and bickering is part of what attracted people to them. Helps that they hated each other and it took decades for them to really become friends.

You can really tell how fiercely progressive Gene is trying to be when talking to Robin. In their other appearances on Stern, Gene once tried to get Stern to shut up for five minutes so that Robin could take control of the show. He seems really uncomfortable and brutally defensive at anything that doesn't agree with him on the show. Meanwhile, Roger sits there collectively calm even when thrown the most offensive material in his face. That moment when he gets the supermodel on his lap was pure class.

I might wait for it to be available through Netflix next month.

It is a great film. The way Steve James parallels and contrasts Ebert's rise to prominence as a film critic against his declining health in his final days is loving sad as poo poo. I got VERY teary-eyed watching it.

Life Itself was one of the top movies I saw last year, if you haven't seen it tune in, it made me a little misty eyed. I've been going through that fan site with the videos a lot lately and I am bummed that I went through all of the "If We Picked the Oscars" shows. 1990 's show was a hoot, both picked the same winners for every one and the audience keeps play booing.

Siskel reviews Return of the Jedi for CBS: http://siskelandebert.org/video/1R1HKAS23AM1/Gene-Siskel-reviews-Return-of-the-Jedi-1983 He speaks in the second part about how excited he is that Lucas said he'll return to Star Wars in 2000. He never lived to see the prequels, dying just a few months before The Phantom Menace opened. For what it's worth, Gene seemed genuinely excited when reviewing the trailer on the show. Anybody think he would've favored the film?

I can't find any information on it but I remember Ebert saying he would take Gene's son to see Episode 1 out of respect for Gene. And really, who knows what Siskel would've thought. Ebert praised the vision, imagination and visuals in TPM as well as breaking new ground in effects and digital cinema. He also acknowledged the dialogue was flat, the acting a bit off, and the plot being laborious.
