I guess I'll hold my nose and vote tomorrow because civic duty or whatever. is accelerationism a good idea yet?

FDR would have gotten thrown out of the modern day democrat political machine.

I voted early today. I requested a paper ballot because "I don't trust those machines" (in reference to the electronic voting machines). There was an old dude standing beside and he requested paper too. He looked at me and we mentally hi-fived. But he was probably a Republican.

But anyhow, I voted straight-ticket Democrat like I have since I've been able to vote. Vote Democrat. The rear end you save may be your own. :patriot:

I'm not looking for a radical left party, I would be mostly happy with 1980's Democrats.

Basically pre-Clinton Democrats would be a huge improvement. We don't have to veer "hard left" (whatever that means in American politics); we just have to push a message that if Democrats controlled the Senate and House they would do X, Y, & Z to help the poor and working class. Just articulating a specific, populist agenda would do wonders.

The strategy of being Republican-lite isn't motivating people to vote for Democrats either, so I don't see where the fear of pulling left is coming from. A (fake) populist message seemed to do pretty well in 2008.

Even pre-Clinton Republicans would be a huge improvement. Bush 41 pro-war but against nation building, pro-business but against Voodoo Economics. We'll never see that again. Neocons and Tax pledges run poo poo now are never going go away.

so far Obama has vetoed two bills:

H.J.Res. 64, Making further continuing appropriations for fiscal year 2010, and for other purposes.

H.R. 3808, the Interstate Recognition of Notarizations Act of 2010.

I love it when somebody I've known for years starts a conversation with me by saying, "You're a Republican, right?"

It literally does not matter that I share no ideology whatsoever with them, they just assume that because I am a white male in my 40s I must be a straight ticket GOP voter. Jesus Christ I hate politics. And we've got some real Jim loving Dandy poo poo going on in Florida this election cycle.

I don't have a US Senate race to vote on tomorrow, but I do have a US House race. My district has been a bit Gerrymandered: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florida's_5th_congressional_district#mediaviewer/File:Florida_US_Congressional_District_5_(since_2013).tif

Corrine Brown (D), a black woman, has been an incumbent since like 1993 and has had her district continually hosed with ever since she was elected; finally the GOP gave up trying to run White Men against her and found another black woman. Clearly this isn't an attempt to confuse voters. Of course, this other black woman immediately has her campaign billboard defaced by "whitefacing" her:

This idiot is running for Governor: https://twitter.com/pblass

AG Pam Bondi sidestepped around answering any debate questions about the SCOTUS opinion that overturned the Florida same-sex marriage ban by saying that "her office only got the court decision hours before the debate," and stated that she was opposed to Amendment 2 (medical marijuana) because she has concerns about the "legitimacy" of the prescriptions (here's a clue - if Amendment 2 is successful and a doctor prescribes medical marijuana to a patient, it's legitimate). Not that the whole idea about allowing medical marijuana use but not recreational use isn't just ridiculous to me.

And here is the always-present Libertariantard (Wylie, for Gov.) candidate's position on same-sex marriage: "My position on marriage is that the government has no authority to outlaw any private agreement between consenting adults. . . As governor, I would work to eliminate marriage licensing laws and leave those decisions in the realm of individuals and/or the churches." Which, of course, completely misses the issue entirely by not recognizing that marriage equality advocates want the legal right to have the government enforce a private contract between consenting adults. Typically a Libertarian candidate splits the GOP vote, but in the Wacky World of Florida where the Democratic candidate for Gov was formerly a Republican Gov, who the gently caress knows.

The loving incumbent Secretary of Agriculture is running on the relevant issue of GUN RIGHTS: http://www.adamputnam.com/issues

And let's not forget the retarded ballot measure asking for a change to the Florida Constitution that would allow the Governor to "prospectively" appoint judges to fill a vacancy...let's let that one sink in a minute. This allows a lame-duck Governor to appoint a judge before there is a vacancy. I can't see that being abused at all.

But if you really want to know all you need to know about Florida politics in a nutshell, read this poo poo: http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/lo...41013-post.html

Florida is loving ridiculous.

Actually Corinne Brown is a spectacular piece of poo poo, and for years the Republicans have been more than happy to let her have her gerrymandered district because they knew that she just sucked up a whole lot of Democratic votes and was no threat to their agenda at all. Usually her district was hosed with to make it have MORE Democratic votes, so they wouldn't risk flipping any Republican seats nearby.

Want a great example of how hosed Florida is? Google "FL-13 special election".

We had two opportunities to flip a House seat vacated when Bill Young died. The state Democratic Party chased away a real Democrat that was leading in the polls so that we could run Alex "I'm not an Obama Democrat" Sink (loser of the 2010 gubernatorial election) in the special election, who of course lost. It turns out that "bipartisan deficit reduction" doesn't motivate Democrats to go vote.

For the regular election the leader of the Pinellas Democratic Party actually called and threatened a popular black pastor to stay out of the race, so that the Party could run some unknown guy that was actually prohibited from running as a Democrat because he recently switched parties. That doesn't matter anyway since that guy promptly dropped out. So tomorrow Democrats in Pinellas will not have a Democratic candidate to vote for, in a district that went for Obama twice.

The Democratic Party in this state is compromised or is so incompetent that they might as well be working for the Republicans. Florida has 500k more registered Democrats than Republicans, but for some reason the Democratic Party is M.I.A. in this state and just lets the Republicans run everything.
