i know you're being ironic, but yes. the democrats are not going to change if they keep winning seats despite ignoring their voter base. i wanted them to lose the senate and i want them to lose everything in 2016 unless they get their act together because that party is a farce.

you're right lets keep voting them in so we can keep the status quo of nothing getting done, terrible fiscal policies etc. i'd rather let the republicans run poo poo while the democrats completely fall apart and a new group of people take over because the democrats we have now loving suck poo poo.

just a reminder that the republicans spent the last two years self-destructing and yet they still demonstrated that they understand their voting base better than the democrats.

Very unpopular governor here got re-elected 50 to 49% on the back of our state being red as hell. If only there was some political system most of the rest of the world used that was able to apportion power based on actual ratio of support instead of a binary win/loss total..

if we adopted a system like this it would go a very long way to curing voter apathy, however both parties stand to benefit way too much fromn the current system for this to ever be an even slight possibility.

Won't voting for dems strictly as the "not republican" just encourage them to keep moving farther right (as they have been for years) because they have no reason to pander to me? By not voting for them to the point where it costs them elections (as it did this time), shouldn't that send the message that they have lost touch with their base?

It seems like if we keep voting D just cause they're not R then we're going to end up with a right and far right party to choose from in our lifetime.

Let me get this straight.

Your argument for not voting Democrat is: "Voting Democrat will just swing them more Republican; so it's better to NOT vote Democrat and let the Republicans win to prove a point that America want's more liberal 'D's on the ballot."

You're a loving idiot, my friend.

the problem is that every time the democrats lose, they go further right anyway so really the only answer is that the party needs to collapse and be completely replaced.

also we are already at the point where we only have a right and a far right party to choose from.

Family friend is going to have to "get out" of the state now and "move back to Alaska where her son used to be stationed" because "even a state Redder than Kansas" actually provides "healthcare for people with 25% lung function and one good eye" so she can "live out her final years in good health but completely isolated from any of her family or friends".

But one of the parties has successfully turned every election into some kind of extreme referendum on abortion or gays or mexicans, all issues that literally cannot be legislated on and can only be very slowly changed by electing a president and hoping some justices kick but it prevents people from electing non-fuckups into office if they don't hold the right religous views.

Can you summarize the stance of people who still think you should vote D as a lesser of two evils option? I mean I get that's preferable to a Republican majority in the short term but I really can't see how its not a dumb plan long-term. We're already hitting the point where a lot of D candidates are basically just Republicans in support of gay marriage or other social issues.
