Well, it says that the JSDF has 200k+ active duty, so it would be pretty easy for them to take and hold the Gate in the middle of their city with numbers like that. The issue would be that there is literally nothing they could do to stop any foreign country looking to also get involved in Gate stuff, their only option being to "grant" the US permission to aid the expedition and to keep the other nations (Russia, China, Eurozone) in line. But since the author is a right wing fetishist, all other nations are crazy jealous and resort to spec ops trying to abduct Gate natives when they arrive in Japan because they're too impotent to do anything else.

You guys are right but I've researched a bit myself and get this: there is no gate to a fantasy world in tokyo, and dragons can't exist. Another fatal flaw in the premise of this manga?

I picked up Gate expecting to hate-read it after the anime was announced, based on all the people saying it was basically "Mein Kampf The Manga." So where the gently caress is all the racism, nationalism, and sexism I was promised? Racism? The "the only country with black men in their forces is America!" page occurs when Special Forces are attacking an onsen, and the parties involved can only be Russia, China, or the US. The US is the most likely one in that group to have black guys in their SF, sure. Nationalism, the JSDF isn't portrayed as anything special relative to other first-world nations. They impress the locals, but that's it; they're not jerking off at their brand-new Yamato Damashii jet fighters. It's a bog-standard modern-tech-meets-ancient-tech story, just starring the JSDF instead of First Cav or whatever. It's literally something Harry Turtledove would write except with an even more boring premise (because there is no drama). Sexism I don't even know. The evil prince is a rapist and keeps sex slaves because he is the evil prince, I'm not sure that's intended to be an endorsement. The best character in the whole thing is the short JSDF chick who keeps ignoring the trigger on her gun in favor of bayoneting everyone so I think it's a wash  The real strike against Gate is that it's loving boring. It is nowhere near as interesting as it sounds, unless you have a hard-on for reaction shots of primitive screwheads oohing and awwing at helicopters and whatnot. There is exactly one interesting, dramatic moment when they fight a dragon, and the manga has finally picked that thread up again, but otherwise its 42 chapters of pure nothing because the bad guys can't oppose the good guys in any meaningful way. They exist to get poo poo on to show how inferior their backwards feudal society is. Finally, the "good" princess in the enemy empire who works with the JSDF is named Pina Colada. I'd recommend Gate only if you're having trouble getting sleep. You know what the dragon fight was loving boring too and the action was really poorly conveyed.

The entire story and plot is just an excuse for the author to show off his hardcore nationalism, xenophobia, and hard-on for the Japanese military kicking everyone's asses. Every single iteration of the series since the original webnovel has been modified by editors/publishers to tone down those aspects. The Webnovel was hilariously and offensively racist to the highest degree, so it was toned down a bit for the light novel. Then when the manga got the greenlight it was toned down again for the manga, and if history is any indication the anime is going to be toned down as well (or maybe not since the magician at high school was pretty popular even though it was extremely pro-Japan militarism and racist as poo poo)
