I am now at the point where all of my meat is purchased by the whole or half animal from humane and sustainable local farms. If you don't do the same you are literally a garbage human being.

Every year I buy a half hog a side of beef and two lamb during slaughter season. I then purchase poultry as needed. Using a chest freezer for storage is really easy and it is pretty economical. I am driving to pick up my pork this weekend. I am spending 100 dollars on a pasture raised turkey for thanksgiving this year. I have personally inspected the farm that I am sourcing it from and have confirmed that they treat the animals humanely (no beak trimming etc.). It is worth the extra 85 dollars to ensure that I am not contributing to animal torture. 1gnoirents posted:I don't do that and I am not a garbage human being. Something is wrong with your words OP

jBrereton posted:The local butcher or supermarket, hope that helps, op. How does it feel to contribute to the wholesale torture of animals? You could be a better human being by spending a little time researching humane local farms to support. I only had to spend around 8 hours total finding a good place to purchase my aforementioned turkey (this includes driving time for the visit as well as online research, a conversation by telephone with the proprietor, and the time for reading/writing email correspondence). Barrista posted:Do you use any type of medication? Yes. Please find me a source for local, craft, humane medication and I will switch. It is about doing what can be done. No. I have a dick. I do use craft, local made cologne though Yes. I source my deodorant from someone who craft makes it in my area No. I have been to the house of the person who makes the deodorant and cologne to ensure that everything is on the up and up. I like going to the butcher. It's totally an awesome time and get good quality meat. But I usually get it from the grocery store, OP. I live in an area fortunate enough to have HEB stores. And their meat is decent! Butchers are awesome but in America they are going the way of arcades. Just nobody goes anymore so they all shut down.

Best is to purchase directly from a farmer as you are supporting them and ensuring that they stay in business. My pork, lamb and beef come from a USDA slaughter facility (has to be done this way legally in the US). I have checked the two that I know my suppliers use and they are relatively low volume and have humane slaughtering practices. I have spoken with many of the workers there to ensure that the owners of the business pay them fairly and do not violate any safety protocols. Poultry doesn't have to be slaughtered as a USDA facility so this is done normally on the farm itself.

Every once in awhile some random guy wanders into our office (Small office, no receptionist, we don't use the keycards because the owner got pissy with it one time and unplugged it) and asks if we want to buy meat. Out of a freezer in the back of his pickup truck. How is this a business? Who the gently caress buys meat from a stranger out of their pickup truck?
