Trove

The game is in Open Beta, and there are updates fairly regularly, and as such, the things in this topic might change at varying times.

What is Trove?

Trove, if you will, is essentially a mixture of Minecraft and Cubeworld, taking the creative aspects of Minecraft and the sense of adventure, classes, and voxels from Cubeworld.

What makes Trove any different than all the other Minecraft clones?

See. that's the thing, it's not necessarily a Minecraft clone. At its core, it's a game where you make a character and explore a vast world with random people to conquer dungeons and get items that, for the most part, are generally cool to look at and may seem like you outlevel them at times, but here's this kicker. When you get an item, you can craft a thing that lets you save the look of the items and freely change them on the go, so you're not stuck looking like every other person you meet. Another thing is that a majority of the items are user made. You can use your everyday voxel editor and make an item, then submit it to their Reddit (I think, I've not tried it myself, nor have I really looked into it) for approval and, if it's good enough, as a permanent addition to the game's repertoire of items.

Aside from items, the combat is fast paced, and even then, you only have a total of one passive skill, two active skills, and an ultimate. It may seem like a small amount, but the game plays rather arcadey and as such, there isn't really a need for 200 skills for different scenarios.

This sounds appealing, but what is there to do in the game?

As of right now, you mostly just run along the random landscape, either alone, with pubbies, or preferrably, with Goons. Once in a while (Or quite often) you will find a dungeon that either contains a boss fight, room that summons waves of enemies to beat for a reward, or one that requires three people for free loot. There are daily quest things that reward you with money in the game, because you can't get it through other means, minus mastery.

Mastery? Explain

Your mastery levels up to a maximum of 60 (Will probably increase as more and more updates are pushed out), and you get a variety of items per level you gain. To gain levels in your mastery, you have to do things such as levelling up, collecting styles, finding recipes, upgrading your rank in one of the 2 current professions (Ring Crafting And Gardening, more will probably come eventually), finding a new pet, and other things that I'm probably either forgetting or haven't been added yet. Case and point, it's pretty easy to level it up at first until you start to run out of things to discover, but in the long run, it rewards you with money in game, which can be used to buy classes.

Classes
Being a RPG, Trove does indeed have classes, and while I've not played them all too extensively, I'll try my damndest to explain what I can or update this at a later date when I do get to try them all. Also, as a note, when you first start the game, you will only have access to the Knight and the Gunslinger classes. There are more classes you can buy, either with real money (Don't do that, unless you're desperate, the basic classes are pretty kickass on their own) but you can easily do daily quests to eventually make enough "cubits" to purchase a new class. Also, before I forget, you can change classes whenever you feel like it, so long as you find a class changing station. It's free and doesn't require anything to do. In fact, changing classes lets you freely level up and try new things while keeping your previous class' skill and the like for when/if you want to switch back.

Knight

"If you seek truth, justice, and a finely chiseled jaw, unsheathe your sword as a stalwart Knight. Gleaming armor and pointed sword have never looked this square."

The Knight is your basic "Look, an enemy, let's brutally bludgeon it to death!" class and can easily solo most things, I'd like to think (Ive not played it much)

Right Click Smash - Crush cowardly enemies beneath your weapon of choice.
Level 3 Charge - Lunge through the heart of the opposition.
Level 5 Ultimate: Iron Will - Heal your Knightly body and shield it from harm.

Gunslinger

"When you’re armed with six-shooters, serapes, and a rakishly angled hat, the possibilities are nearly endless… and endlessly handsome."

The Gunslinger is the starting ranged class and it, from my own personal experience, is quite the capable contender against most things that don't end up killing you first, but I guess that can be said about everything in life.

Right Click Charge Shot - Turn your pistols into plasma guns (just hold down the trigger for a smidge).
Level 3 Blast Jump - Propel yourself into the wild blue yonder... by shooting your feet
Level 5 Ultimate: Run and Gun - Cut down your foes with a burst of bullets and speed

Fae Trickster

"A master of illusion (and the ultimate prankster), the Fae Trickster is ready to beguile and charm your foes. To death."

I've never actually played this class, so there isn't much I can really say about it. I'll update this if I get more information on it from Goons or something.

Right Click Glitterbomb - Share the love (and carnage) with explosive faerie dust disco balls.
Level 3 Blink - Summon an illusory clone to deceive foes while you teleport ahead.
Level 5 Ultimate: Faerie Dance - Conjured staves smite your enemies while distracting them from the real danger. You!

Dracolyte

"This staff-wielding engine of destruction is armed to the teeth with Draconic magic, infernal might, and one deadly-adorable Dragon sidekick."

This is another class that I've not used, so like above, I'm going to just paste the stuff from the site. I will say this, though, apparently the ultimate of the class turns into a loving dragon, so it sounds pretty fun and I might have to get it next.

Right Click Spit Fire - Your baby dragon unleashes a mouthful of flame! (Or maybe just a puff of smoke.)
Level 3 Burnt Offering - "Gift" your enemies with explosive dragon idols. Bombs away!
Level 5 Ultimate: Avatar of Flame - Transform into a mighty dragon with volcanic strength. RAWR!

Neon Ninja

"Spread the terror from the shadows and the light as a Neon Ninja. Hurl shurikens and backstab foes, then flip away as you drop into stealth!

This class, unlike the last two, I made enough Cubits to actually buy. So far, the class is pretty awesome and I've been able to solo with it fairly decently. Hell, for a melee class, it has some fun ranged abilities, because range is nice.

Right Click Shadow Flip - Vanish as quickly as you appeared with an arching backflip, stealth, and speed-boost. They don’t stand a chance!
Level 3 Stasis Blade - Move through your enemies as the wind moves through reeds, rooting all targets in your path.
Level 5 Ultimate: Mark of Death - This deadly technique, taught by the master ninja himself, imbues your weapon with the power of 1000 fists.

Interesting, is there a way I can play with Goons and not with pubbies?

Your bet your sweet rear end you can. As of a couple days ago, there have been a total of 4 Goons (That I know of) who play the game, and as such, we need more people to ultimately rule the land of Trove. Being in a Club allows you to go to our very own "Club World" where all the dicks in the land are displayed to the populace. Baiscally, to cut to the chase, the Club is called Dongoholics Anonymous and if you would like to join it then by all means, message me or one of the people I'm going to add to the post.

People to message to get into club/have more allies to terrorize the land with

srickshaw

If we aren't online, then I guess add your name here, and we'll/I'll see if I can add people that way. It's one of those things where you have to be online to add people to your friends list kind of deals, so I'm assuming it's the same with clubs. Alternatively, just join the #Trove channel on the good old IRC, because that might be a good idea too.

Note
I realize that this is kind of devoid of information, and I'll add more later. I'm just posting this as a basis to get more people in the game. If you need help, I'll try my damndest to help you and also update this on a regular basis.

I've lurked here for years
I tried this a month back and had a hard time knowing what to do. After the tutorial place, I ended up in a place with a lot of portals. Went through one 'for adventure' and ended up on some map where after wandering around for 10-15 mins i didn't find any thing besides random mobs in the countryside.

Personally I think it needs a bit more content/direction for me to actually play it regularly.

(I wish that one dude would update/finish cubeworld..)

This game is pretty fun, been playing it since Alpha the only downside I see to this is there isn't a lot to do besides randomly running around killing monsters or building your home.

Maybe I'm wrong and I'm missing something, but that's what I get out of it.

Yeah, there's a special subreddit where you throw your designs at - items mostly. No idea why they don't use their official forums for that.

You can still build whatever you want to on your cornerstone/club world/whatever else.

The designs are mostly for new weapons, hats, face items, mounts (I think), and things like that. You're freely able to build whatever dick house you want to build without having to submit the designs to their Reddit.

I managed to get a key to this off some random giveaway in the last few days of closed beta. It was pretty cool on my own, but I feel like goons would make it more entertaining. I was considering making a post for this game then, but laziness won out, so I'm glad you were less lazy and made one for me to post in. My character name is inkmoth just like here, and I'll try to see if I can find one of you guys online.

Also, OP forgot to mention something.
We do have a IRC channel.

Said channel is #trove on irc.synirc.org

If you're lazy or are at work you can use THIS to connect via a browser client called Mibbit. Just make sure to change your nick from standard mib_* thing.

As a note to everyone who would like to join the club in the game. You can't really get into it unless one of the people in the topic is online, although granted, I could update the list with more people's names. Either way, if nobody of use is online, then get into the irc that Mortvert spoke of and yell at me or something, and I'll gladly add you into the game.

Well, considering it entered open beta like... a week and a half ago, it's still unfinished, yeah. As for it being bad, I personally enjoy it even though the constant killing and mining can get kind of repetitive at times. The game seems to update every couple of days to a week, and those tend to add new features. One of the more recent updates added the Ringcrafting profession, and when I look in the recipes list, there seems to be some fishing related things, so I imagine they'll add those soon enough. Tomorrow, they are adding a new class and a new biome, so that'll add a bit more variety in the dungeons and gameplay environments.

Those having been said, I learned that you can type /mf in the game's chat and it'll take you to some place called the "Metaforge". Apparently it lets you build dungeons and test any custom designs for weapons and things that you might have worked on. So uh...that's pretty cool.

You are channeling Third World Reggin so hard right now.

Every multiplayer video game is unfinished. You point me to a multiplayer game that is done and Ill eat Black Baby Goku's dick.

There is no shame in calling a game bad. We all play bad games all the time and 90% of the population that play video games only like bad games. Look at the Call of Duty and World of Warcraft crowds. Completely poo poo games but people are lining up in swarms for the next installments. Bad Games are life.

It mostly gives you a place to go to freely build dicks for all eternity and Goons to get together with to make said dicks, or bomb the land.

Also, I guess you're right about the bad game thing, except I see bad games as games that I would never play. But whatever, if you do play the game, I've learned that bombs are the key to victory. While you can't blow up people's houses with them, you can destroy everything else, from the landscape to the dungeons. So uh, have at it.

I know I've said it before, but join the irc if you want to join the club in the game. Especially since I'm going to be gone for the next 2 and a half days starting tomorrow. Maybe I can work out a way to get people added to it somehow.
