My good friend who is 6'4" always gushes about the legroom in my '86 Celica. I guess his Escort ZX2 is a bit cramped, which is funny because they are nearly the same size on the outside.

I am about 6'3", and a ZX2 was the bane of my existence for several years. Before that, I only had octogenarian vehicles (Cutlass, Park Ave). I thought it was kind of awesome because I could take off in 1st (then click over to drive and bog down when I get forced into second). There is NO room. Period. With the seat all the way back, you are still literally driving with your nuts a few inches from the steering column with your knees wrapped around the steering wheel.

The first generation 9-5 actually has quite a bit more legroom than the LG (2009 - last before the Newest/Very Last  gen) 9-5. They kept the same body and had feeping creaturism on the inside. I can tell with my knees every time in a later gen 9-5. I can do it blindfolded because I will smack into things that "shouldn't be that close". 9-3s, 900s, NG900s aren't too bad. C900 is a little annoying since you can't adjust the drat tilt- but you get used to it.

I'm 6'2", with a 34" inseam (and unrelated flexibility problems), and my Mustang is probably the most comfortable car I've ever driven. I don't even need to put the seat all the way down and back -- in fact, then I have to actually stretch for the pedals. Headroom is not a problem either, and there's nothing that causes discomfort on longer drives -- I've done up to 8 hours in a row with nothing but a 2-minute fuel/bathroom stop, and I don't end up with any soreness or anything.

Yeah it is pretty snug on the inside, I'm only 5'9" and there's barely room between the steering wheel and my knee when I go to put my foot on the clutch. :v:
I don't have the tiltable steering column either which isn't helping things.

Anything German, with exceptions like the BMW Z series.

Bigger American cars and trucks.

Japanese vehicles its completely vehicle dependent, there seems to be no rhyme or reason to the fit, I find the seating position is usually too high, even in something like an older Civic it feels like im sitting on something instead of in the seat.

I'm 6'5" and have a Mazda 3 which I find surprisingly roomy. Ok I have to have the seat the whole way back and there isn't much room for a passenger to sit behind me but I've done that many times too.

I can't say I've ever really had a problem fitting in a car though, the only one I can think of is the Smart Fortwo which I couldn't even fit in, the door wouldn't even close.

Is that a challenge?
After 5 minutes extensive testing I can inform you all that the Renault Captur (and by association presumably the Nissan Juke) is complete dogshit if you're tall. The car is tall but has gently caress all headroom or legroom in the back, and the way the dashboard curves means one of your knees is smooshed against it if some poor sucker has to sit behind you.

CARBON!!
I'm 6'6" with a 34" inseam and due to my torso length, have bought full size pickups and American land barges for most of my life. When I went to get something small and sporty, most 2 seaters didn't have enough leg or head room, Solstice/Sky no chance, Miata was pretty tight, S2000 was tight, but actually fit pretty well. I haven't been in a new Audi for a few years, but last time I tried an S4 there was no leg or head room. E46 3 series was OK, could use a little more head room. Subarus were always tight, legroom wise, but I made my wife's Outback work for me for a few years. Saabs have a lot of room as do Panther platform cars, though I can never get all of the angles right to be comfortable in my grandparents Crown Vic.

I actually settled on a Cooper S, that thing has tons of space in it. I actually have to move the seat up from all the way back to reach the peddles. With the seat lowered all the way I have pretty good headroom. The thing actually is more comfortable for me to drive then my wife's Honda Pilot.

I'm surprised that BMWs have come up - in my (admittedly limited) experience with them they've ranged from cramped to midget sized. The two 7-series I've sat in (90s models I think) were low enough that I physically had to tilt my head to sit in them. The 1-2 year old 3-series I sat in was merely extremely snug.

The biggest problem for me being "a tall" (6'4") was by the time I got comfortable behind the wheel of a smaller 4-door vehicle, the second I turned my head I would get an eyeful if b-pillar, or end up looking out the back seat windows. This was my biggest issue with my 2012 Ford Focus, and why I moved up to the larger Fusion.

I wish Ford had another coupe besides the Mustang. A 2/3-door Fusion or Focus would be awesome.

I loved my 1996 Ford Probe GT though. Small pillars and glass for days to see out of. 19 year old me didn't mind getting in and out of it either.

As a non-short person (6'3"-6'4"), I can say the bane of my existence as a car enthusiast is this:

That annoying rear end ratio of big rear end steering wheel to dashboard/center console to knee space for persons of the non-short variety. Just look at all that un used space behind the steering wheel! Some of these cars would be eons better if they made a smaller steering wheel.
Need to make a hard turn to the right? False, even with the seat all the way back your knee is in the way of being able to get your hands in the hard right position. Not gonna happen, you're going to crash if you misbehave. I loving hate this space, and it's the first thing I look for when I'm getting into a smaller car. I wish car companies would make cool cars that fit all sizes, sort of like BMW and Mercedes but without the maintenance requirements.

CARS I've actually driven:

AWESOME:
Jaguar XJ, an absolute ton of room on the inside to move about and breathe.
Jaguar XF
E46 330 Convertable (top down & up)
Mini Cooper S

Good, not great:
Mazda 3
Ford Fusion
Chevrolet Lumina (once you actually get inside the thing)
Nissan Altima
Saturn L300
Acura TSX

Tight fit but I can make it work:
MK3 Golf (leg space isn't bad, no heel/toe shifting since the steering wheel is too big, knees bang into it. Also the sunroof makes me have to tilt my head to the side.)
Mitsubishi Starion/Chrysler Conquest
Honda CRX
Ford Focus
Ford Excourt ZX2
Chevrolet Cobalt (this one had the steering wheel/center console/dashboard combo getting on the small side.)

Avoid like the plague:
TOYOTA CELICA (The gap between the steering wheel and center console/dash on this car and some of them to follow)
Scion TC
Miata MX5 (Top up, literally could not sit down in the car with the seat all the way back.)

Haven't driven that many cars now that I think about it, most folks around me drive Trucks and SUV's.

Comfy vehicles:
1999 Ford F150 (my daily)
Ford Bronco
Chevrolet Silverado 2500
Chevrolet Tahoe
Jeep Cherokee
Jeep Grand Cherokee
Ford Edge
Toyota Highlander

Uncomfy Vehicles:
Ford Ranger
Nissan Rogue

6'5, 190 lbs here.

I can fit in a old style Morris Mini with some headroom to spare. The new one, for some reason, haven't got that much headroom.

Citroën Berlingo - sits nice and high, plenty of room all over. But absolutely no cool-ness factor, it's a box on wheels.

Current I've got a 2007 KIA Cee'd, which to be honest, isn't the best car - my legs hurts after a while on the road in it.

Sometime in the next couple of months, I'll be testing a 2014 Nissan Leaf for one month. Looking forward to see how it is to drive?

6'4" here, and my, how much life has gotten better over the last twenty years. I'm not sure what advancements in folding things away designers made c.2000, but it seemed like every make of car, even the little ones, got easier to fit in.

I drove a New Beetle that fit very comfortably (including, naturally, headroom) though no one could sit behind me.

I drive a Tesla Model S now, and it's the first car I've owned where I didn't have to move the seat all the way back.

6'3" and around 230lbs here. My current '08 Legacy GT wagon is slightly on the cramped side for my legs but there's lots of headroom even with the sunroof. It feels about the same as my previous '08 WRX actually. The Kia Optima K5 I owned between the two subarus was way more spacious, I was practically lounging in that car.

I am 6'8" 240lbs with a 38" inseam.

Currently I drive a 2014 fusion with a manual transmission. My biggest issue is the pedal box. I actually think my e36 m3 had better ergonomics. No matter what car I'm in I have trouble seeing suspended traffic lights when stopped.

I can drive things like a fit, which have plenty of headroom, but realistically the most comfortable place for me in that car is the back seat behind someone tiny in the passenger or drivers seat.

Small sports cars are almost entirely out of the question without modifications to the seat and/or rails.

I once had to move a c4 corvette when I was selling cars, and it was a tight fit, probably too tight to drive in any real capacity.

People who are 6'3" or 6'4" are tall, yes. But they're not to the realm of real inconvenience yet. At that height you're at the upper end of what things are designed for. People my size are such outliers that we are generally an afterthought.

Not only that but it has a huge windsheild that means you don't have to tilt the seat back to see out of (5the true bain of a tail person driving).
