Cthulu Carl posted:It's fun to call the Stars and Bars "the flag of a failed traitor state" because some worthless history sperg and/or confederate sympathizer will point out "It's not the the flag of the Confederate States of America! It's the flag of the great Robert E. Lee's Army of Virginia!" I just now learned this. Apparently the actual Confederate flag was just the stars and bars (actually the "Southern Cross" according to wikipedia) in the upper left hand corner of an all white flag. Basically one of the worst flag designs I have ever seen including user created flags for Nationstates.net

the confederacy had 3 flags. the first was the stars and bars, which is this: it was considered too close to the US flag, and they changed it to this, stealing the army of northern virginia's banner as they were seemingly invulnerable fearing this looked too much like a surrender flag they changed it near the end of the war to this, "the blood stained banner" ok history lesson over now this thread can go back fantasizing about committing war crimes again

ironically despite how much he's hated in the south and gets brought up in 'gently caress the south' conversations sherman was actually surprisingly humane to the civilians of the area, there were no needless executions or mass killings which is pretty impressive for an army running loose relatively unopposed in hostile territory surrounded by partisans with no lines of supply or communication

If you did where would we live?’ She looked at me with such a pleading look that … I dropped the torch and walked away.” the union was so loving powerful and so loving good at kicking the south's poo poo in that the south had to resort to sending out little girls to beg the union soldiers to not kill them quite so hard
