I just started a temp job in a warehouse and my delicate legs and back ache after standing all day. Has anyone got any good standing tips they can give me?

make sure you're stance is balanced and that you're not putting too much weight on your heels. standing for long periods of time sucks, but becomes much more manageable when you can break it up with a bit of walking, and remember to sit and rest your feet whenever you can. in a warehouse you probably have to wear boots or something, but crocs + socks is the ultimate 'stand + walk for long periods of time without break' footwear.

Dansko's professional line is good for standing or walking all day. They will also last for years.

As someone who also stands a hell of a lot for his job, I just got arch insoles and holy gently caress do they make a difference. Don't just buy regular gel insoles. Go find one of those stupid "stand here to calibrate your feet" things in a shoe store or a Bed Bath and Beyond or something and do them, and try what they recommend.

periodically do standing squats throughout the day and make sure to stretch before and after, OP

Seriously get some good soles in your shoes. And try not to lock your legs. Stretch your back every 30 minutes. Try a wider more open stance when standing still. And if you are in a position to not wear work boots, get waiter/waitress shoes and put good soles in them. I feel your pain OP.

Barbell Squats and Deadlifts will also help improve your posture (if you have good form) so you'll be less likely to stand in a detrimental way. It also builds your lower back, quads, rear end, and strengthens your abs, so win-win.

Over the counter pain killers early on and stretch properly before work. Eventually your body will for the most part get used to it, but never completely. Labor sucks, complain about it to your coworkers often so you make friends.

I knew a guy who lucked into a New York union building maintenance job. On his first day his legs and back got sore from working, and he complained to the foreman. Per union rules, he was sent home and forced to see a doctor. He was fired a month later, which is light speed for a union.

If you still have problems after a week you might have posture problems or fallen arches. Go see a joint specialist. And don't buy off the shelf sole inserts.

I'll probably get some insoles, manual labour jobs I've done in the past I've found much easier than this becasue at least you're moving a lot.
