Pander posted:My problem with spiders isn't knowing how they operate, that all makes excellent sense and I appreciate their function. My irrational fear of them spawns from irrational ideas, like that they'd climb down my throat or suck out my eyeball juice. This was something I had not previously considered. To contribute, have a couple of images that I use to test uploading functionality at work.

Tracula posted:Pretty much. There's a spider that usually has a web up in the top corner of the back doorway to the house and one on the front porch too. I don't bother them and they doesn't bother me. Hell, 99% of the time when I do find a bug or spider in my room I catch it and throw it outside. I don't know why but for some reason I feel bad killing bugs in my room (except house centipedes, those are literally demons.) We had one living under the edge of our bedroom air conditioner last summer that we named Night Spider as he would be mostly only active at night. He caught the very tiny bugs that would manage to get in around the edges of the a/c. Just once he started extending his web to the bedframe and the we had to have a talk about boundaries but otherwise he was cool.

If someone invented tiny robots that were autonomous, self-sufficient and reproducing, and that were extremely good at catching mosquitoes and flies, we'd all want to have a few.

I wish I was one of those people who were so stupidly rich they couldn't possibly spend money fast enough to ever run out, like Bill Gates rich. I would donate SO MUCH MONEY to kids' organizations and shelters and stuff and just do silly things like this. Not that Bill Gates doesn't do anything, he also gives a lot to charity and needy organizations. I just wish I could do it myself too.

My cat brought one of the 13-striped variety home and my mum nursed it back to health. They're apparently difficult to reintroduce to colonies, so she has a ground squirrel pet now. It rings a bell when it wants treats and to be petted. Looks like this, 'cept dumpling-shaped 'cause it's fat and loves pancakes:

At work today, I suddenly had a dobermann the size of a chiuaua underneath my counter. A guy had come in with it and it was so small I didn't notice, especially because it wasn't leashed. It was adorable. Apparently a Miniature Pinscher: Unfortunately, I didn't have time to take a picture myself.
