I guess I'm a minority in saying that I've had fun with this game. It definitely has UI problems, but I think that when you get skills involved the combat gets a little bit more complex. I made a human skirmishing team that is just a fuckoff swarm of riflemen and archers with a few ambuscade dagger warriors that has very successfully shot my human opponents to death with impunity. I also made an all dark souls team for chaos that just shits melee damage everywhere and is really fun to play because it is mindless charging.
