Imagine if your tiny little country was vast. Vast is a word that we use to mean full of loving nothing. Nothing for days. You, the sky, and if you're lucky a fast car going down an interstate to get you somewhere with some people. Out in that vastness, people practice the Old Ways. You get far enough into the vastness, you'll find towns that are owned by two families as have been feuding since the War, you'll find towns that have died but haven't quite stopped yet, and you'll find the Wilderness. America is really loving huge, and it'll take a while for the reality of that to sink in. Really though the trick to live in America is just not to be an rear end in a top hat. Go along to get along, all that.
