The straweight champion better end up being someone cool. We're pretty much guaranteed a final of "someone cool" vs "someone not that cool" at this point.

All of the women left in the bracket opposite Carla's are pretty cool, but as someone else pointed out, Rose winning also means more Pat Barry on my TV doing things other than receiving brain damage. Speaking of brain damage, thanks to the OP for reminding me that Overeem/Struve is real, because there's no way that fight isn't funny, but it'll probably be the kind of funny you feel a little bad about.

Also how good and cool is it to see the fights in a movie theater? A local one is doing it and for reasonable ticket prices, my only concern is missing the Faber fight.

I'll admit, my interest in MMA the past few months has dipped a bit. In 2013, I bought nearly every PPV. That includes watching it at a sports bar or actually staying in and ordering it and watching with friends (I do this for the big cards that I want to watch without bros screaming in my ears. Mostly Weidman fights). This year I've watched 3 pay per views. TJ/Barao (I was bored or else I wouldn't have even gotten this one) Weidman/Machida, and DJ/Carasaio ( I like Alvarez being a Philly guy myself and what can I say? I've been on board the McGregor hype train since his fight with Holloway.) I think FightPass, while useful, has really watered down the pay per view cards. These cards often have main events that are worth watching (as say, an undercard fight on a PPV) but aren't good enough that I'll plan my day around them. Thankfully, shits about to pick up. A few months back I pointed to December as the time that the UFC would kick rear end again, and now it's here. A PPV with 2 good title fights is Saturday. JDS fights a week after that. Bones/DC will finally happen in January, Weidman skull fucks Vitor in Feburary, and to top it all off we get to see Nick Diaz and Anderson Silva. I can't even think of an outcome that won't be hilarious/entertaining in that one. Long story short, I'm so loving happy that I can go back to being excited for MMA on an almost weekly basis starting at this point through the beginning of next year. Fingers are crossed that injuries don't gently caress it up.

There have been a lot of people complaining about all the bad fights and bad fighters and in the same breath saying they don't watch any of them. Y'all are missing a lot of good fighters and good fights because you think anyone that isn't Nick Diaz or Weidman must be horrible. vvv Agreed Tezcatlipoca fucked around with this message at 20:07 on Dec 1, 2014 |

Also Mark Hunt was in a title fight and we got to watch videos of him walking around Mexico all depressed getting his hair done.

I was busy and away from TV/Internet for most of this summer and found my interest in following the UFC was really low even when I had a chance to catch cards. Recently, I decided to commit to watching every card again, even the lovely ones, and that's all it took to get me really excited about fights again. If you want to care about fights, watch fights. MMA is not a fun sport to just follow online

Just watch the good cards and avoid the bad ones. Or just watch the good fight(s) on a bad card It's not rocket science. UFC Fight Night: Shogun vs. St. Preux was an excellent example. I watched the depressing main event and nothing else and I don't feel like I missed anything.

Lord Waffle Beard posted:http://mmasucka.com/2014/12/01/ufc-uniform-deal-means-end-cage-athlete-sponsorship I suppose this depends on a few things. If they end up having uniform sponsors and giving fighters a cut of that revenue it could be ok. Maybe the UFC is looking to move to a uniform with names of fighters on the back so they can move to a jersey sales model. For dudes fighting on the undercard or beginning of the main card a big part of their income has to be that sponsor money. They're going to have to offset that somehow. No way can some of these guys lose that money. It would have to add up to the tens of thousands.

Given the frequency at which stories come out about sponsors not paying fighters, this will probably benefit the little guys more than the big guys.

Nah the big guys are getting their own Nike shoes, under armour ads and in Ronda's case appearing in movies. not to mention ppvs and shilling on instagrams. The big guys probably won't feel this. Sure losing Nike money and poo poo won't be great but they're not going to be having to do extra coaching giggs and seminars.

The difference is though the big guns don't need the dynamic fastner logo on their rear end so they can train full-time and pay for dolce to tell them not to be a fatty the little guys need that money so they can put fuel in the cars and buy chicken and rice to eat. Nominally the big guys lose more. In terms of impact on their life the little guys are going to feel this so much more.

it'll be cool dudes when someone brings it up to Dana he'll talk about locker room bonuses and reference what some guy who challenged for a title made and refer to a 36 year old man as "kid" and then maybe insult a journalist later on twitter that night. business as usual, what's best for the sport

Yeah when you mentioned "locker room bonuses" it began to click for me. Arbitrary dispensation, consolidate power over the fighters. Really they're one step away from paying their fighters in scrip which can be redeemed for branded clothing and protein powder.

I wonder if the best career path for a young prospect now is to avoid going to the UFC and instead do what Askren, Alvarez, Melendez, McGregor, and Rousey have done - fight in smaller organizations until the hype train is screaming, journalists at post-fight pressers are asking questions about you, and you're getting in twitter wars with top-ten fighters before having been signed. Only then sign a UFC contract as an established fighter with some of your own drawing power.
