We're your first, last, and only line of defense. We live in secret. We exist in shadow.

And we dress in black.
Ms. Salvador is easily the youngest teacher in the school, having just finished her teaching degree and arrived at Salvation High this year. Unendingly enthusiastic, she's just young enough to remember that none of her students are and so devotes a deal of time to alternative methods of education. The attempts that don't end in disaster, her looks and her lax attitude towards some of the rules, such as those against eating in class, have made her reasonably popular.

Today, she hurries into the classroom only a few minutes before the bell, wrapped in a thick puffer jacket and cradling a steaming cup of Starbucks coffee in her hands. The temperature has been dropping slowly but steadily over the last month, and while today's forecast suggests it might reach 50 degrees, it hasn't broken 36 yet this morning.

The classroom itself is located on the second floor (of two), though the layout of the school puts it only half a floor above ground, neither of which have thawed yet. The windows themselves are still coated in frost as the single space heater struggles to heat the room while the main heaters undergo repairs.

Most of the class is already here -at least the classrooms get a space heater- and a few of the more diligent students are getting out their binders. Today is a 'FREE STUDY PERIOD" according to the message on the whiteboard, to help with the most important matter on every students mind, the midterms next week. Sorry, did I say midterms? Well they are just around the corner, but what every student is worrying about is the homecoming dance coming up next friday, and more pressingly, the Halloween party tonight.

Jamie
Who were you dressed up as last night, and what uncomfortable secret did you learn that you can't put out of your head?

Did you even get an invite to the party? What are you planning on going as, or rather, who?

Matthew
You're running late today, your dad stopped before you left this morning, and he seemed usually urgent. What did he say he needed you to do, and it had to be today?

As you make your way through the classroom towards your seat, everyone around you is talking about the party tonight. Have you thought about going at all? You'd be able to show up even if you didn't get an invite.

Linda
Maggie asked you to arrange something for her for the party, and you're running out of time. What about it is causing you so much trouble?

She isn't in yet though and with no one else around to talk to the girl behind you, August -the one usually talking to that Oritz kid about dreams and new age stuff- is trying to get you to do a tea-reading with her. She shows you her own cup, some processed trash from Starbucks from the look of it.

Zoe
Cody is hosting the party, again. Do you even plan on going after what happened the last time you went to one of his parties?

On top of that, Natalie keeps shooting you pleading looks across the room when she thinks no one is looking. What help did she ask you for before class, and why are you hesitant?

Anne
Where were you last night when you ran into those monsters, and why did you have to let one get away?

You just heard this morning about the location of the party, where is it going to be held, and why does that make you so worried?

Maria
Do you plan on going to the party with someone, or are you going to go stag?

A party is one thing, but it'd be unthinkable for someone in your position to go to a dance without an appropriate partner. Do you have anyone in mind yet? And who did Michael ask you for help getting as his partner?

River
When you take your seat, you can't help but notice Nikkie Murphy isn't here yet, and she's always early. What went down at Drama Club yesterday that makes you think she won't be showing up at all today, and why isn't it your fault?

As for the party, do you have anyone in mind you'd like to go with? How do you feel about costumes anyway, aren't they just another way of lying?

Maria, So Maggie and Rob broke up, but you can already see River starting up a conversation with her. With the way he moves through girls you wouldn't be surprised if he was making a move already! If you want to give Michael a fighting chance or leave River free for a potential dance date you're going to have to do something.

River, Maggie arrived to class a minute or two behind Matthew, and likewise her entrance goes on commented on by Ms. Salvador, taking her seat silently. She does not, however, look pleased to be immediately met with questions about her breakup, though her expression softens slightly when she sees that you're the one asking.

Leaning over towards you to get a notebook out from her backpack, she whispers back "Yeah, as long as Rob isn't. Do me a favor and don't spread it around though."

Linda, as you lean forward to get a better look at the tea-glop, one of the harsh florescent lights overhead flickers, making the shadows in the cup dance, and for a moment the mounds of soggy tea leaves and herbs seem to be piles of corpses, the bits of tea coating the bottom a pool of blood. Then the light steadies, and all you see is a mess, leaving you with the unshakable feeling that corpse on the bottom had been Anne.

"Well, what'd you see?" August waves her hand in front of your face, and gives you an impatient look. What do you do?

Matt, Zoe takes a string on you for being transparent(ho ho h- :commissar:)

Anne
The air grows heavier around you, thick and musty, with a scent of... tea? As you inhale a deep whiff of the scented air, your vision spins for a moment and when it comes to a stop, the classroom is gone. Your classmates are gone as well, in there place stand ice princesses and ghosts, witches and demons, serpents and kings, angels and kings, vampires and skeletons, wolves and spiders, dragons and Frankensteins, and ...munsters?, all wearing the faces of your class. But most of all, around you stand the dead, countless numbers closing in on you all and behind them, a smoking, burning, figure. You move forward to fight them, but you can't, something is holding you back, dragging you away. As you turn, standing, seated, you see Linda's face as the world returns to normal again.

Linda
August gives a snort and snatches her cup back, turning away from you. "Don't be so stuck up. Some of us just like the taste without it needing to be authentically stewed chai english grey by some Tibetan monk or whatever." Leaving you, she leans over towards Matthew and starts to chatter away at him about the dream she had last night. Take the condition Snob.

In front of you, you see Anne turn in her seat, her face porcelain white, staring directly at you.

Ms. Salvador gives you a slightly concerned look as you rush for the door, splattered in ink, but nods you out. Obviously you can't go to class like that. Most of the class watches you go, and a few laugh as you leave.

Zoe
Ms. Salvador isn't particularly convinced by your argument, "I'm sure you can give it to her during passi-" She cuts off as you leave though, and just lets out a sigh and turns back towards her own notebook, until...

Matthew
"No, seriously! That's quite enough Matthew, go back and sit down! I try to be relaxed about things so you all can focus on your studies, and this is how you all act?" She glares at you, pointing to your desk, and continues to mutter to herself under her breath. You could still leave, but it's clear that she'll be very unhappy, and it might have consequences for the rest of the class if you do. What do you do?

Maria
You almost immediately get back a reply;

Mike posted:

And shortly after, you can just hear the sounds of him texting away behind you. After a moment, Maggie pulls out her own phone and sends off a reply.

"Yeah, I'm going with Brad." Tammy shoots a grin his way, then for some reason looks behind her to smile briefly at Linda as well. Turning back to you, she seems to think for a moment, probably trying to remember if she knows anything about your love life. "Are you going with anyone?"

Rob posted:

Maggie turns away quickly, and begins to send out another text, but you could see that she had gone a little red. "I really want too, but I don't think I can be around him just yet..." She trails off, and then glances back at you from over her phone. "You couldn't talk him into doing something else tonight, could you? I mean... he is your brother."

As you doodle absently away in your journal, you find your mind and gaze wandering, until eventually you snap out of the daze to find yourself looking directly at Jamie. Could he be the key to Maggie?

A moment later the message from Linda arrives on your phone.

After you send Allison the message, you receive a series of replies one after another, despite her apparent irritation and not getting to gossip in person, she seems eager to share the story.

Eventually the messages end, leaving a rather maddeningly vague story.

River, Linda
Maggie seems not to notice the emphasis placed on foster brother, being a bit embarrassed at being caught between the two of you. "Sorry Linda, I didn't mean it like that, just, wanted to be extra sure, right?" As the conversation drifts away from her, she settles into a somewhat upset silence.

Jamie
Tammy gives you a slightly shifty grin and leans in a little. "Yeah, I've liked him for ages, but Linda helped me hook up with him at a concert! She's so nice, not at all like people say."

This is a new scene for everybody

Ah, lunch. Greatest of all school day inventions.

Matt
Linda has just taken a seat across from you at your lonely table with her own lunch. Do you usually sit alone at lunch, or are you doing it to have your talk with Linda, and what happened in Social Studies just before lunch that's on your mind?

Linda
So, what did you bring to eat, and more importantly, drink? You see Matt sitting alone at a table and take a seat across from him to have that little chat he wanted. You don't talk to him much normally, what was the last conversation the two of you had about?

Maria
So far you haven't seen Jamie or River yet, but what you and your gang got your lunches and headed for your usual table, what about James' behavior is striking you as odd today? Amy and Michael both seem to be acting fairly normal. As you take your seats, behind you you can hear...

Zoe
Anne isn't around just yet, and Matt seemed to want to sit alone at lunch judging from how he walked right past you to sit at an empty table, so who are you eating with at the table next to Maria's usual spot? Before you can get very far into your meal, you feel someone slam roughly into your shoulder sending your fork flying, and let out a loud, fake "Whoops, didn't see you there."

When you turn to get a better look, you see Mark doing his best to try and loom over you, leaning forward to rest one arm rudely on the table next to you. Did he find out you narced on him? "I saw you getting friendly with Matt during Homeroom today. Don't you know the guy's a little cheat?"

Jamie as Maggie
You're running a little late to get to the usual spot you meet Anne at, what took you so long to get there anyway? As you round a corner, almost there, you nearly run right into River! You already look like Maggie, so this is the perfect chance! You can see Anne in the distance waiting, but it's now or never, what do you?

River
Who made a promise to you during Math today, what was it and why did it make you so happy? After looking around for Anne for awhile, where did you look first anyway, you finally spot her off a little ways, and it looks like she's been waiting for someone. Before you can go up to talk to her however, Maggie heads around a corner and almost runs right into you.

Anne
You've been waiting for Jamie, or possibly Maggie, at the usual spot for a little while now. Where is the usual spot anyway? Just as you were getting sick of waiting, you see Maggie, in the pink headband with white stripes Jamie mentioned come around a corner right next to River. Before you can do anything however, something makes you look around, and you can see another Maggie walking with along with Matt Collins heading right towards you from the other direction! What do you do?

He jerks it free and lunges towards you, not even bothering with a punch. Mark looks somewhat offended, and straightens back up, holding his hands palms out. "Hey, I was just trying to help you out, if he cheated on a no-stakes boardgame, you can't just him for anything else either!" He backs up a few steps, then snorts and turns away, moving off along the room to another table where he sits down in a huff and starts complaining to his friends there, just loud enough that you, and probably half the lunchroom, can hear, "Man, can you believe that loving bitch Zoe? She went and called me a creep when I was just trying to warn her about Matthew being a cheating scumpot. I bet he was the one who loving narced on me too!"

A few of the seniors look at each other, thinking it over for a moment, then one of them nods. "Yeah, that's a good point." The first one, from the team, who you're pretty sure is Steve now, gives you a big grin and slaps you on the back. "Good thinking Mary!" They all start shifting back around to their table, but you can hear one of them say to the swimmer as they do, "Party probably'd be a bust anyway Richard, who wants to be out in this weather at night."

You can vaguely heard the sounds of that nerd Mark yelling about Matthew or Zoe or something, but do you even care about that? You've got the Rob problem taken care of from the sound of it, but you still have to try and get Maggie a date for the party with Michael if you can. Still no sign of her or Jamie for the moment, so how are you planning on dealing with that now?

Anne
Matt spits on your face in fury, and punches you again and again, sinking his fists into your gut repeatedly, grunting with each strike. Finally after several blows he seems to recover himself somewhat, and looks over at Maggie. "Get out of her Mags, you don't want to get in trouble too." She gives the pair of you one last horrified look, then runs off back towards the school, heading right at Jamie and River. Matt turns back to you and draws his fist back for another blow. He had been crying with every blow.

Maggie, trying fruitlessly to pull Matt away from you, glares up at you in a mixture of anger and fear, "What the hell is wrong with you?!" And she's right to ask. What the hell is wrong with you? As you double over in pain and laughter, you can feel the bone poking painfully inwards. Your rib is definitely broken. When did Matt Collins get so strong?!

When the haze of hysteria finally fades and can focus on the room again, the situation has changed. You don't hurt nearly as much, and someone bandaged you up pretty well. Looking around the shower, there's Matt, he must be the one who patched you up, thanks Matt. And Zoe, nice friendly face, hi Zoe. And Maggie-Jamie who you did all this for and... River again. Your phone vibrates repeatedly with messages of thanks from Mike, but they don't really require any followups. As you reach the stairs to head to your next class, see Matthew Oritz from earlier heading towards the same stairs from the other hall. It was pretty funny the way he booked it after you just gave him a smile and the tiniest flash of cleavage earlier.

As you approach the stairs to head to your next class you see Maggie coming towards them as well from the other hall. This might be the perfect time to talk up Mike to her, or... maybe not. She looks a bit of a mess, her eyes are red rimmed and a bit puffy looking, like she'd just been crying. What do you do?

Anne
The bell signaling the end of lunch blares out, but that doesn't really matter. You have more important things to do than class right now. Linda was probably in the lunch room, so you just need to head there to meet her before she heads off to whatever class she has next.

Matt
You make it out of the showers undetected, but in your effort to put some distance between them and yourself, you lose track of the others, and then the bell rings. Time to head to class. OhgodisthatMaria? And you have the same class together next so you can't just go the other direction and pretend you didn't see her. What do you do?

Zoe
God remains helpfully silent on the matter.

That was a downer of a lunch time wasn't it? By the time the bell rings you'd already wandered most of the way to class, so you're the first to take a seat. Or you would be, except that two students are already sitting in the back, talking softly to each other, both looking very upset. Eavesdropping probably isn't very angelic, but you can't help but hear them in the otherwise silent classroom. Who are they, and what are they talking about?

Jamie
Oh poo poo, he wants to pick you up? Man, how are you going to work that one out without Maggie seeing you go or your family seeing two Maggies?

Linda
The bell rings to signal the end of lunch. That was a pretty productive lunchtime, two good exchanges of goods and information and they didn't even cost you much. You're on a roll, and hey is that Anne over there? You might be able to turn that double into a triple play, or some suitable tea metaphor, before you get to class.

But then the sound of the rain from your track changes, falling faster and faster until the sounds meld into long slow drips, each one lasting an age. When the drops of blood start falling in front of your eyes, you follow them up to see a stone slab, with an animal bound to it, its belly cut open and their entrails hanging out and spread by bloody hands. The animal corpse changes rapidly, first cats, raccoons, then dogs, working their way up in size. As the last one fades, you know with a feeling of dread and excitement, the next one must be a human.

The bathroom returns with a jolt, leaving you with new questions, and an uncertainty you didn't have before. Your encounter on the stairs somehow seems far less real than the visions you just had, and these mammals look so similar without being born together, can you be sure from that short look that it was Maggie and not Jamie you saw?

Maria
Maggie tries to put on a strong face as you lead her towards the bathroom, but once inside she lets it drop, seeming to accept your help. Clinging to your arm, she starts to cry again, but answers you through the tears anyway. "First Rob broke up with me ... when I told him I wouldn't put out after the ...party! And then..." I was talking about it to Matt Collins..." Here her face darkens, and she spits out the next bit, "when that bastard Anne picked a fight with him.... and then she broke his jaw with a brick! That loving bitch!" She lashes out, kicking one of the pipes under the sinks hard, then completely breaks down, sobbing onto your shoulder for a long time.

As you look into the pile of leaves in the strainer, the world around you waves for a moment, and you start seeing double. The lunchroom and Anne are still visible around you, but someone else's life begins to flash in front of your eyes. Anne running along the train tracks until a rotting man attacks her and runs away. A living corpse on the floor of a diner, Anne stabbing him again and again with a bloodless knife. Two dead men eating a woman until Anne crushes the skull of one with a beam and drives the other off. Anne alone at the edge of the party, waiting for them to arrive. Matt Collins is on top of her, punching and punching, until she smashes his jaw with a brick.

The visions end abruptly as the mess lands in the garbage with a faint splat, having taken barely no time at all, but you feel as if you had just lived them, tired, sore, but filled with adrenaline from the fights. Seeing signs and shapes in the leaves is one thing, but have you ever had something like this happen before? And what does Anne even mean, what are you?

Maria
Your suggestion takes Maggie off guard at first, shocking her enough that she stops crying long momentarily. Once shes settled down and you suggest that she sees someone else to take her mind off things, she seems collected enough to be more her usual shrewd self and she gives you a much more appraising look. "I don't know... Having some time to myself sounds good ...But if something happened to Anne there, I'd probably be in a good enough mood to consider it."

Clearly the idea has grown on her a bit. If you and your gang pay back Anne in kind, she'll give Mike a shot.

----NEW SCENES----
Linda's House
Linda, you're in the middle of putting the finishing touches on your costume when you hear the doorbell ring. That's probably Matthew looking for his tea. Before you have much of a chance to respond, you can hear your Mom answering it. Why where you hoping to get it before she could? By the way, how did you let Maggie know you'd taken care of Rob?

Matthew, are you feeling nervous at all when you give the bell a ring to Linda's house? She might make your eyes pop like Maria, but she's pretty cute isn't she? When the door opens, it isn't Linda though, but an attractive blonde haired woman you can only assume is Mrs. Mills. What does she say right off the bat that makes you embarrassed? What costume did you end up going with anyway, and are you wearing it already?

Maria's House
Maria, the gang is meeting up at your house to finish off the costume preparations. Michael and James are there on time since you all have to make sure your coordinated Munster outfits are perfect. Amy was running late, so that you only just where finishing when she arrived at the door. What was taking so long to finish up about them?

When Amy walks ins, her costume takes your breath away. She looks... wow. She'll easily be the second most stunning person at the party, after you, obviously. What costume is it, and what about it manages to hit all of your buttons? Are you usually interested in girls at all, or is this the first time?

River's House
River, you've been waiting for Jeremy to show up for a little while now, but he's running a bit late. While you've been home you saw Rob come in after swim team looking pretty down, and then later heard him on the phone from his room. When he comes out later to hop in a friends car, he looks a lot more cheerful, but still not his usual carefree self. What do you make of the difference between this and his attitude via text from earlier?

Finally a text arrives from Jeremy, asking you to head over to help him pick out a costume. His house is only about a block away, but still, talk about rude.

At School: Before the end of the day
Jamie, where are you changing into Linda's cloths? Where do you know Maggie is right now for you to have a word with her anyway?

Natalie's House
Zoe, Natalie greets you with a hug and a plate of halloween cookies to thank you for helping her out and leads you inside, chattering away about something or another. What's Natalie's house like anyway? When she tells you what she wants help with, you can't help but feel rather used. What about it is so outrageous? Also, did you already stop at walmart for your costume, or are you going to have to do it later?

Anne's House
Anne, your father just greeted you with a nod before he went back to his bottle of beer and tv when you got home, not even noticing you were out a few hours too early. Your costume plan was a fairly simple one, but it still took you hours, and you still aren't quite done. What kept you preoccupied while you were working on it, and what piece are you going to have to get from somewhere else?

On your way out to get it, you pass by your dad again. He hadn't said anything to you since you got home, though you heard him yelling about some sports call on the tv, but as you head for the door he looks up at you. "I heard you were hanging out with that Oritz kid at school the other day. What did I tell you about his family?"

After you explain the situation to Natalie, and she finishes laughing, she has you try on the angel to see what it actually looks like. Once you're modeling it though, she shakes her head. "That won't do, you'll freeze to death in that tonight." After thinking for a minute, she gets up and heads out of the room, "Wait here a minute."

Several minutes later she comes back with a stack of old costumes and starts having you try them on one after another. None of them seem very suitable to you, and most of them are the same kind of high effort costume as Nat's current outfit, and you couldn't just go in one of her old ones, but as you go through them she starts smiling, and it just keeps getting wider. Once you've gone through them all, she puts a scattering of pieces on you from different costumes and starts altering them. After at least another hour of getting poked with needles again, she stands back and holds up a mirror, smirking slightly. "Perfect!"

You couldn't tell while she was working on it, but what you have on now is a warm and not objectionably revealing demoness outfit that still manages to look almost as hot, though much more refined, as the stupid sexy walmart angel.

Matthew, Linda

You have a collection of beautiful things – maybe zines, jazz records, or old jewelry. When you show it to someone, they inevitably find something they fancy. They will mark experience when it becomes theirs and is no longer yours. Also, choose one:
- they see something someone else would like, and when you show that someone the something, carry one forward against them,
- the time has flown by and it's hours later than you thought.

Anne
Dad sighs, and gives you the most sober look you've seen from him in awhile. "I know it seems harsh, but be careful around him. He might be alright now, but his family is bad to the bone, every last one of them has been. You don't have to avoid him at school, just promise your old man you'll never go into his house. Alright?" He holds out his hand for you to shake, and gives you a smile you've been missing for ages. "And I love your costume."

River
Jeremy answers the door a good few minutes after you knock for the first time, but he looks relieved to see you. "You gotta help me out man, I can't figure out which to go with!" He hurries you up to his room and gestures at his bed where he had three costumes laid out, and the promised shrooms. He's got a generic 'old wizard' outfit which you're pretty sure is supposed to be a cut-price Gandalf, a Shaggy costume and, is that... Kim Jung Un?

Maria
You arrive at the party at just the right time, not early enough to be lame and for it not to have started off yet, but not late enough that you'll miss anything or risk not being noticed. Did you notice anything odd about the town during the drive though?

As you look around at the people who are already there, you see someone who has something you want, who are they and what is it? You also can see that Anne hasn't shown up, so no action needed on that part yet. Did you talk about that with your gang at all before you arrived?

Take that filthy, filthy string on Maggie :v:

Mission Accomplished. So, how did you get home after that? By the time you get there, Maggie is working on her outfit off in her room, so you have free range of the boxes of old Halloween costumes. What are you looking for, and what do you find? As you search, the smells of Grandma Chang's cooking waft into the room and set your mouth watering. Do you have enough time to get something to eat before River is supposed to pick you up?

With the costume decided, it doesn't take long for Jeremy to change, grab the shrooms and a couple power bars for later and the two of you to pile into the car. Slipping past Maggie might not be too hard since she's still in her room working on her costume, but how are you going to get out without any of your family seeing you as Maggie leave? Linda's House
Linda
Zoe huh? What do you make of that? And there goes Matthew with the tea, as promised, off to the party. Shouldn't you get going? Do you have a mind to eye anyone for potential dances tonight? You seemed pretty into the new and improved Matt you just saw, has that changed your opinion on him at all?

Matthew
You don't get out of the house totally free, what parting comment did Ms. Mills leave you with?

Anyway, you've got the tea, got the costume, got a party to go to and a potential meetup with Zoe at the McDonalds. Are you going to deliver the tea to Dad before you go, or leave it until after? Its getting pretty late, so for that matter are you even going to bother going to meet Zoe? It's pretty out of the way from the party.

Zoe
How long are you going to keep waiting for these guys anyway? Anne and Matthew are both running late now, and neither of them had the decency to text you yet or anything! While you finish off the coke, something around the place is niggling at your attention, but before you can figure out what it is, your phone vibrates with a text. Who sent it, and what does it say?

Yes, you can remove the condition

The Streets
Anne
You look away, blink several times, then look back at the sign, but the message is still there. Anne. Pay attention. The stillness of the town is suddenly stifling, the air is heavy and fetid, rank with the smells of the grave. A gust of wind plays across your face, and you look up to see the crow flapping down from the steeple, swooping towards you cawing again, its harsh cry the sound of your name. Anne! Anne! Anne! Its wings nearly buffet you in the face as it flies just overhead, and you stumble backwards into the road.

The streets around you are dead. As you walk down the center of the road towards Knightley's, you can feel the death around you. Not just the streets. The whole town is dead. Dead, but hungry for life. With a screech of tires a car barely misses running you over as the driver swerves to avoid a collision, but as it passes you lurch away and fall. The driver slams their hand down on the horn and drives off, a hand reaching out the window to give you a rude gesture and swears loudly. Instead of his words however, all you hear is "The dead are walking."

Your head spins as you hit the ground, and you see the bonfire, people dancing and singing and drinking around it, while all around them, the dead are walking, moving in, hungry for life. The second sight ends as you pick yourself back up, a few feet from the pawn shop.

The Party
Maria
For a moment Brad looks like a deer caught in the headlights of something he really really wants to get hit by, then a loud static screeching noise jolts him out of it. He'd accidentally pushed one of the slides on the mixer all the way up. After hastily fixing it, he turns back to you embarrassed but beaming. "Hold on!" He takes a second to queue up some songs to play, then for some reason glances nervously around the party before he moves around the table to take your hand and starts to pull you towards the bonfire. "Lets dance!" What do you do?

The coast is clear so far, no sign of Dad or any of the relatives that are supposed to be coming over by the time you make it to your room and slip into the costume. Still no signs of life on your way back, but as you start to head down the stairs, something catches your eye. The door to your Dad's study is ajar, and looking through it you can just make out the orange-red glow of the setting sun, along with the hint of something else. A scent that smells like... Dinner? That isn't quite right, but dinner is what comes to mind.

The unusual thing is, that door is almost always locked. He spends most of his time at home in there, doing more work as far as you can tell, but you've only ever been inside with him for talks about the old glory. You've never really had a chance to actually look at things. But.... The party calls. What do you?

Jamie's House
River
You see just enough to Jeremy's face to see an uncomfortable expression crossing his face before you turn away to see Maggie. By the time the two of you are back in the car, he seems normal enough, and thinking about it more doesn't really cross your mind. Not when you have as stunning a sight as Maggie next to you.

JamieMaggie
Looks like you pulled this one off perfectly. Got out of the house with no one seeing you as far as you can tell, and you seem to be charming River nicely judging from his response. River is looking drat nice too, you're pretty sure this is going to be a perfect night. Time to get into Jeremy's car and rock this party.

The Party
Zoe
Well, you and Anne have got the party at a pretty good time, pretty much everybody is here, but some of the cool crowd are still showing up so you aren't late. What's the plan? You've got a rocking costume thanks to Natalie, but do you have an eye on anyone?

Maria
You have a few minutes of peaceful drinking, listening to actually good music, and then Brad shows up again, carrying two drinks. Helpfully, you're just about done with your first one. Unhelpfully, he's suggesting that the two of you go and have some 'private' time off to the side. And.... Oh dear, here comes trouble, named Anne. She isn't heading towards you or anything, but she's arrived.

Anne
The party is still young when you and Zoe walk in, dressed to kill. Literally in your case. But, nothing seems to be going wrong just yet, no sign of the dead. Whats your plan of attack? Patrol the edges? Wait in the darkness for something to show up? Maybe you could relax a little, have a drink and a dance- hang on, is that Maggie coming in with River? Looks like Matt wasn't her boyfriend after all. Er, or is that Jamie? Do you remember how all that played out?

River
Once you arrive, Jeremy goes wandering off in search of a drink and some girls to probably fail and picking up if you know him. Anyway, you've promised to treat Maggie like a lady tonight, whats the first move? Drinks? A dance? Showing off your date to the crowd? Ugh, is that Linda over there giving you the eye? Which reminds you, you should probably find out if she did something to Rob that had him so down earlier. She did promise not to hurt anyone, after all.

Linda
No sign of Rob, so it looks like Maria did keep up her end of the bargain after all, that's something. Buuuuuut, you can see her hitting it up real nice with Brad. Are you going to let her undo the work you put in to hook Brad up with Tammy Slaughter? On the other hand, you can see River and Maggie off in the other direction, coming in as a couple. How do you feel about two of yours getting together? And... that wasn't the costume she was going to wear as it?

JamieMaggie
So, you said you wanted to go as "Just Friends" earlier, but River did promise to treat you like a lady tonight, and well. River. Across the party, you can just make out Linda giving you a curious look, but that isn't really important right now, is it? Are you really going to let an opportunity like this down? Make a move girl.

There is no response to your call, and as you peer around the door, you see that the room is empty. Not empty empty, it has all the stuff that's usually in there. A cushy office chair in front of the desk with papers, a desk lamp and some 'interesting' paperweight/conversation pieces. Bookshelves lining the walls covered in thick, leather bound books. That sort of thing. Just empty of Dad. The smell is stronger though, definitely coming from in the room. You can't see where from though.

As a note, you can only tag one condition for a bonus on a roll. That'd still be a 7 though.

Edit: Hmm. I guess I interpreted that as 'if you take advantage of a condition, add one to your roll', not 'add one to your roll for every condition you take advantage of'? Those both seem like viable interpretations though.

You start to dance, and soon Zoe joins in, neither of you really noticing the initial awkwardness of your movements as you get swept up in the moment. As you dance, you can't help but stare at her, she looks enchanting and... seductive.

Soon you're unable to look away, and as if caught up in the music, you feel yourself moving without your conscious control, leaning in for a kiss. When you do though, Zoe lurches back, staring at you in froze horror. Oh god, you've hosed up everything now, haven't you?

Zoe
Heaven is silent to your prayers again, which seems to be the norm these days. Why do you even bother? They're never any help. You and Matthew start to dance. You're both a bit awkward at first, but as you get caught in the swing of the music the embarrassment and clumsiness fade. Soon its just the two of you alone in your own world, dancing together.

Then it really is just the two of you alone in your own world. But it isn't the world of the party. You dance together in a lush wood, full of trees, the area lit by the glow coming off one giant tree in the same spot the bonfire and been in. As you dance, Matt suddenly leans in for a kiss, and you get a good look at his eyes. They're the slitted eyes of a snake, cold and hungry. You pull back in horror and the spell breaks, the two of you are back at the party, but one thing remains from the vision, a scent clinging to him that you remember from your accident. Blood.

Anne
That seems to have taken care of Maria for the moment, but this brings up a whole new problem. Protecting the party is one thing, but how are you going to manage that while Maggie is sending goons after you? You didn't know she was in with Maria, but you do know plenty of other friends she has who could cause you some trouble. Specifically, Linda. You knew she was going to do something to hold you back tonight, so this is probably it. Time to take care of things.

Also yes, you're at 2 harm.

Maria
You down the pills, and it doesn't take long before you feel them coming into effect, and it helps a lot. You still hurt, but it's a hell of a lot more of a manageable hurt now. As you work on cleaning off the mud print, you have time to reflect on that disaster. poo poo. The three of you should have had Anne rolling on the ground in pain easily, who knew she'd turn out to be some kind of human steamroller?

Maggie, probably. Did she set you up for this? She'd never really seemed like a schemer to you before, but she did ask you to do it in exchange for considering Michael for a date, and then she shows up arm in arm with River. Maybe she is more nasty than you gave her credit for. What do you do?

Matt, in the brief moment of silence between tracks, you realize that the your phone is vibrating rapidly in your pocket, someone is calling. If you check it, it's Dad. What do you do?

Zoe, as the two of you halt between songs, you happen to come to a stop facing one of the drinks tables over Matt's shoulder. You can see Natalie pouring herself another glass, and you start to flash her a smile before you catch a glimpse of Mark moving in towards the table from the other end, an empty cup in his hand, and a nasty look on his face. By the time he gets upright again and wipes his face off, he looks like a bull whose seen a red cloth, and that red cloth is you. "What the gently caress! Watch where I?- YOU- I!" He starts towards you, fists clenched so hard his knuckles are turning white. Meanwhile a crowd is starting to form around you, sensing entertainment. You can't see Natalie at the moment, but she's either in or behind the crowd, and Mark has clearly forgotten all about her. What do you do?

Matt
As you answer the phone, you catch a brief glimpse of several missed calls and even a text message. Probably all from Dad. If he actually sent you a text, this must be important, he's never really got the hang of them.

"Matthew." Not the best opening line, but at least he didn't use your last name too. Actually, his tone of voice doesn't sound mad so much as worried.

"What, really?" Melody leans in, whatever her earlier intentions for you driven out of mind by the siren song of gossip. Someone nearby who had apparently also been listening chimes in, "No, but she was with people all day, she never had a chance." Another voice, "But she had the most to gain from it, she's queen of the school with him gone." "Do you think she narced on Mark too?" "Nah, I heard it was that Oritz kid." You can practically feel the rumors rippling out from you, like the winds of a hurricane with you in the eye. Its clear not everyone is buying it, but when did that ever stop gossip? And theres River coming back! What do you do?

River
Maria heads off somewhere else after the dance, and Maggie isn't where you left her. You're having some trouble keeping Maria out of your head as you go to find her, but this isn't really the time. You did make that promise to Maggie, and you haven't had much luck keeping it so far, with the constant stream of people getting in your way. When you find her, she's talking to Melody Sanders, but a few people around are listening curiously as well. What do you do?

Maria
Tammy shakes her head in disgust at the weak show Mark put on, and turns towards you to pay up, one hand digging her in pocket. That's when she seems to realize who she'd been talking to, and she glares at you and spits on the floor. "I heard what you tried to do with Brad earlier. You better back off, He's Mine." Her tone is ice cold, and a couple people are looking towards the two of you now, maybe hoping for a round 2. What do you do?

Zoe
Mark slowly gets to his feet, helped by two friends, and he turns to glare at you for a moment. There isn't any anger left in his gaze though, just pure fear. "Just stay away from me, you bitch." Then he hurries away, hands clamped over his broken and bleeding nose. As bad as you might feel for him at the moment, and the trouble this is going to cause, that sure felt good, didn't it? The crowd is starting to break up now that the fight is over, a few members giving you dirty looks, but most are cheering you, and some are looking around at something else in the crowd you can't make out yet. Mark wasn't exactly popular, and you crushed him. What do you do?

Matthew
"You're still there? Get going!" His tone is urgent, whatever this is about is something he thinks is important. "You can party some other night, but tonight is not the tim-ANDREWS?!" Uh oh. Now he sounds mad.

"You're at a party with Mister," he practically spits the word, "Andrews?" You can tell from his tone and the slight shaking in his voice that he's moments away from snaking out. There's a long pause, and when he speaks again he sounds calmer. "Look. Come home. You can... bring... your friends if you want. Just. Come home, now."

Dad Oritz is taking a string and then spending it to give you experience if you come home, with or without your friends.

As you stare into the fire, your mind wanders and you faces float up in the flames, repeating bits and pieces of conversations that had been going on as you passed in the party. Words heard, but not listened to.

Wanna c-" A couple figures smirking slightly as you went past, the second nudging the first when he sees you, "She got creamed. I thought she was supposed to be tou-" "shh!"

The faces start going by faster, barely giving you a chance to try and recall them. "River and Maria are together then?" "I heard the Duke was back." "Did you see his face? What a complete nerd." "God, I hate River, how does he get all the good looking girls?" "saw Andy the other day," "Not loving fair." "How'd he get back?" "What the hell happened to Collins then, wasn't he supposed to be here?" "Can you believe her dad actually beat her up on Halloween? And she still came to the party." "Oh, so it was Maria who set him up?" "Better watch her back now he's in town again."

You snap out of it, the last few lines ringing in your ears. Did you really hear that? Andy Thompson was back and someone suspected you of framing him? Replies from Zoe and Matt arrive on your phone as you get back to the party with Linda. Normal jokes from Matt, and... Maria wants to get Zoe as a bruiser? That seems, uh what does that seem like to you then? The party seems peaceful at the moment, though you can see a small group of people you vaguely recognize as nerds huddled around someone by one of the tables, looking a bit shifty. No real sign of the fight Zoe says she was in though, must not have been big?

Linda
You arrive back at the party proper with Anne, and take a look around. No sign of zombie attacks yet, so how do you plan on doing that crowd control for Anne like you said you would? For that matter, are you going to try and get your treasure's out of here? It looks like Maggie and River are dancing, and Maria is sort of spacing out staring into the fire. You also notice Tammy off in a corner drinking pretty heavily, and looking a bit sick.

The car ride is pretty short and smooth, Matthew is a good driver. His singing is surprisingly good too, even if he did pick the nerdiest station to be singing along with. Either way, it helps keeps your mind off Marks bloody face. As he parks and the two of you make your way up onto his porch though, you can feel your nerves twanging, and a sense of unease is growing stronger with each step. Can you tell if it's a warning from Remiel, anxiety about going into a guys house, just from going into the 'Oritz House', or something else? Either way, you aren't going to back off now are you?

Matthew
The ride goes by fast, and Zoe seemed to have enjoyed your singing, but were you too caught up in her to think about what your Dad said, how could Halloween be a dangerous night, it's practically the safest night for someone to be out the entire year? No time to think about it once you get home though, as you walk Zoe up to the front door, your getting way too nervous to think about anything else. What is she going to think about it? What is Dad going to think about her? What is he going to say about her?

Some of that worrying pays off immediately as you open the door to come face to face with your father, who'd obviously been waiting for you to arrive. He looks hugely relieved that you've made it, and tries to give Zoe a welcoming smile, though he isn't too good at it. And yup, right off the bat, he says something embarrassing as hell. What is it?

Amy is flushed and breathless as you and Jimmy walk her towards the car, but when you lean her fully on Jimmy to get your keys out, she lurches free of his grasp, pushing him backwards a few feet, and wraps her arms around you again. You can smell the alcohol on her breath as she leans in close, her face inches from yours. "dun want bed. Want You." She closes in the gap and with the clumsiness of the drunk presses her lips against yours. What do you do?

Anne
The circle of nerds opens slightly to allow you in, but they don't look quite as eager to see you there and paying attention to them as you expected. Rather, most of them are looking even more shifty and worried than they did before. After a short, awkward silence as they all looked at each other, one of them speaks up. "Um. Mark was getting a drink and Zoe came up and uh, dumped her drink all over him." He obviously isn't happy about telling this story to a friend of Zoe's, and glances at the others around him again, clearly hoping someone will step in, but when no one does he continues, "Then she insulting him and when he tried to hit her, she tripped him and shoved him into the ground and broke his nose. Uh. Sorry."

Just as the lights are dimmed and the last DVD menu button is selected, the door to the room is opened a crack and Matthew's Dad slides in (not literally, thank god) and puts down a bottle and two glasses on the floor next to Matt, winks (oh god) and leaves. Its a bottle of wine, and good stuff too. Oh God. What do you do?

Prompts for everyone else later, sorry.

As Anne heads off, you and Jimmy turn your focus back towards getting everyone into the car. She's having a bit of trouble standing upright, but with a little work the two of you get her into the passenger seat and buckle her in. Jimmy gets into the back, looking angry, and you head around to the other side. When you get in though, Amy has undone her buckle and leans across the center to try and kiss you again. If you have any attention to spare, Jimmy in the back is getting even more visibly upset. What do you do?

Jamie
River seems a little distant during the first dance after you get him back, but once you move onto the second song his focus seems to have shifted fully back to you, and by the time you finish two more dances, the pair of you are flushed and breathless. Deciding to take a break, the two of you make your way over to a seat and River goes off for a moment, coming back with two drinks. Setting the drinks down he places one hand gently down on yours, and leans in with a smile, "are you having a good time?" What do you do?

Linda
Nothing for a minute, then you get a reply back, then another, and another.

Conversation with Maggie posted:

Maggie: what?
Maggie: River?
Maggie: hang on

Moments later, your phone starts to ring, its from Maggie. "What are you talking about? And how come you never said if Rob was there or not anyway?" If you're paying attention, there isn't any background sound of the party coming along the line. What do you do?

Anne
As you head back towards the party, a sense of unease starts to grow along the back of your spine, and you glance down a side street as you pass by. A solitary figure is heading along it, towards the party. Is it one of the dead? As it approaches though, you can see it pull out a cellphone, the glow faintly illuminating their face, but not enough to identify them, and you can relax. You're pretty sure the dead don't use cellphones. But, the feeling of unease is still there. What do you do?

Amy allows herself to be buckled back in, just sitting in the seat sobbing quietly to herself as you start to drive home. After only a couple blocks though, she stops and leans forward, her face twisted up, and hurls all over the floor in front of her. She starts to sit up again, then buckles up again and throws up again. Mike lets out a yell of warning, and you look forward again, Amy's vomit attack had only grabbed your attention for a moment, but in that time someone managed to stumbled onto the road right in front of you car. Before you have a chance to stop, you hear the sickening crunch of a collision, and the figure is knocked hard to the pavement. Jimmy and Mike start shouting in a panic, and Amy is still hurling next to you. What do you do?

Jamie
River smiles back at you and gives your hand a squeeze in return. "I'm glad. It felt like everyone was trying to stop us having a good time at the start." He chuckles slightly and shakes his head at your words. "I can't promise that, but lets make the most of the rest of the party." It doesn't look like either of you are quite ready to get back to dance yet, so he takes sip of his drink and squeezes your hand again. "Jeremy and I were going to take some shrooms after the party, would you like to come?"

The Oritz House
The shifting shadow from Matthew's Dad in the doorway freezes when Zoe begins to sing, then when the song comes to an end it quickly retreats from the door. With the movie paused, the faint creaking of the stairs can be heard as he ascends to the next floor. He isn't there to hear Matt's promise, which is probably a good thing.

Zoe, about what Matt just said... That's basically everything you wanted to hear, isn't it? What do you think, and what do you do?

You hear a faint buzzing from the figure and they take the phone off their ear and look down at it, stopping dead right in front of an alley. The phone rings again a second later, and the figure almost instantly picks it up, still standing in one place. They're talking angrily as you approach, but break off as you get near enough to see. "Anne?" Oh poo poo, its Maggie, the real one too. "What are you do-" before she can finish the question, another figure barrels out of the darkness of the alley, slamming into her and knocking her to the ground. Her phone goes flying off to the side, and she lets out a scream as the other person starts to attack. What do you do?

Linda
Maggie answers the phone seconds after you call her back, and she sounds seriously freaked out. "What the hell is going on Linda?! That's not me, I waited to go to the party so you could check for Rob, like you said..." Theres a brief pause, and then she says in a different, but even angrier tone, "Anne? What are you do-" And then her voice cuts off in a scream. What the hell is going on here? What do you do?

Maggie is just scrambling to her feet when you finish off the attacking dead, and it clearly is one of them, the signs are there, but most apparent is the stench of rotted flesh. "I didn't ne..." She starts to respond in irritation, then sees what you've done, and her voice catches. "Y-you killed him?" The sight of the ruined head and splatters of blood, brains and skull on the wall and your clothes is clearly too much for her, and she falls to her knees retching. Off to the side you can see Maggie's phone glowing dimly, with faint sounds coming out of it, but you don't have time for this. You can hear the sounds of moving feet from down the alley, and the screech of tires even further down. What do you do?

Jamie
River looks disappointed, but he nods in understanding. "Alright..." He looks down at his drink for a moment as the latest song trails off, takes a long sip, then stands up, still holding your hand tightly and smiling brightly. "One more dance then?" If you're paying attention, you can see Linda talking on her phone with an expression you can't really read, but it isn't a good one. If Maggie called her to find out of Rob was here... It might be time to leave. Still, one more dance. What do you do?

Linda
You get no response coming back down the line, though you can barely make out from the muffled noises what sounds like the splattering of something wet. While you wait anxiously on the line, you can see River and Maggie, the other Maggie, getting up to take another dance. Can you let whatever the heck is going on keep going, and risk River? But at the same time can you really leave this phone call and not go to help Maggie? What do you do?

Maria
Tires screech and you hear the crunching sound of more bodies hitting your car, but eventually you make it free, leaving the mass of.... zombies? Behind. Where are you when you finally come to a stop? When you get a chance to look, the front of the car is slightly dented in a few places, but not noticeably unless you knew where to look, thank god for durable vehicles. Once you have a chance to calm down a bit, how sure are you that those were they really zombies? Maybe some kids from the party who took too much cocaine or something? Was his neck really broken? Some weird vision from something bad in the punch?

Zoe
You're feeling pretty great as you head up to the door of the trailer, but how do you feel when you step inside, a little late and dressed like a demoness? What is there to greet you inside, is it Dad, a note, or something else? And what about it makes you feel even worse?

Matt
Where do you go now that you're leaving Zoes? You could go right back home, but after having a date (totally a date) with Zoe, and that kiss, I bet your flying high. Do you really want to just go back and have to deal with Dad asking if you scored and other super awkward Dad questions? The city is quiet, but the stars and out and shining bright, and the party is still probably going if you wanted to check it out again. What do you do?
