Where is this loving artwork Widestancer? When I get called out of my hellhole in MMOHOMO I expect to see something that I can scratch my balls to.

Look at you fucks discussing the state of games in here while I am out there on the front lines doing god's work.

The funniest part is that 3 out of 4 of those games are free to play. Goes to show you are not on my level. Get off my lap son. The adults are talking now.

I would gladly pay 60 bucks for a game that allows me to tear apart this many spergs. Playing the game is only what I do in my free time.

What are the rules of MMO HMO at this point? The previous Wildstar thread, which should have been about enjoying the failure of a terrible game, devolved into people calling each other faggots, a melt down, someone wishing that someone else would end up unemployed and on food stamps, some top lel 4chan memes and a bunch of other unfunny poo poo. And it went on for a long rear end time. Is that type of thing kosher now? Can we just spam away with the memes?

The new Wildstar thread is actually an alright place to watch the game fall apart from a distance. But that thread really seems to have gotten out of control and gone on that way for way too long.

Eh.

I'll say that while there was some overly-strict moderation before, I think it's gone too far in the opposite direction. The current rules are basically lip service at best and it'd be nice if they'd either be revamped or enforced. (I'm mostly talking about the tedious-rear end console warrior bullshit that pops up any time any of the three companies has a bad day more than anything here in terms of the latter.)

And no offense to the people who enjoy Imp Zone, but it'd be nice if Imp Zone posting was at least somewhat discouraged outside of there. I mean I don't want to go back to people being utterly terrified they'll get moderated for making a joke or whatever, but there's a lot of no-effort trollposting popping up in threads. I guess it's a tough line to judge and it'd be better to be too loose than to discourage people from posting, but still.

And while I think it's good reports are down, I also think part of that is that people are discouraged from feeling like reporting is even a thing. The rules-as-written being only haphazardly enforced combined with report-shaming (justified as it may be) kind of leads to a feeling that it's kinda pointless to even try.

Can I just empty-quote this? That kind of thing seems to be all the rage around here lately. Either there's been a drop in the behaviors breaking the supposed rules and there's nothing to report, or there has developed an attitude that reporting will accomplish gently caress-all and there's no point in bothering.

Agreed. Over-modding is bad but so is shitposting/trolling/low effort garbage in Games proper. It's not a problem in the vast majority of threads I read, but it's really obnoxious when it takes over an otherwise good thread, especially since we've basically been told to gently caress off when it comes to reports for FYAD-lite posting in Games. If modding is going to continue to be a largely hands off practice then I'd recommend more of what has already been done: move threads suffering from this problem to the Imp Zone to shape up or die. It's an obvious signal that the mods are aware the thread has gone to poo poo and that regular Games posters are free to either join in the threadshitting or go somewhere else for useful discussions about the game in question.

Example of thread this should happen to: Star Citizen
Example of success using this strategy: Dota2

Well, one of the ones I was particularly thinking of in this case was the Super Smash Brothers thread right around when the Japanese release happened. It basically became an unreadable mess of no-effort posting, people reposting the same (unrelated) images over and over again, and that sort of thing. It was eventually moved to the Imp Zone and left to die.

In that case though it feels kind of lovely because it was a fairly hyped game that people were interested in with new leaks and information coming out fairly regularly, which is a situation where I don't think super-strict moderation is necessary but where low-effort white-noise posting really kinda hurt the entire thread. I don't think you need to Only Discuss The Game Upon Penalty Of Death but still.

That's kind of an extreme example, admittedly, so I'm not trying to imply that specific thing is happening regularly.

More stuff like this seems interesting, right now it's almost wall to wall megathreads. If I look at the first page of games the average non-stickied thread is probably over 250 pages. Most of them have really amazing ops, but beyond that unless it's something I'm super interested in then they're a chore to read.

I can post some random simple question but unless it’s in the OP then it’s probably been asked 50 times already and I’m just adding to the white noise. Is interesting content showing up? Yeah probably but it’s a pain to find. Having more generalized threads like the questions/screenshots/griefing threads exposes you to other genres and games that you might not otherwise have read about. I don't think rules or moderation are making any difference since people aren't posting in any significantly different way, it's just annoying to navigate sometimes.

I mean, as much as the Archeage thread deserved it when PedoBob happened, that's still a pretty prime example. For anyone who didn't know what was happening, opening up a thread and seeing page after page of BBG dumping low-quality 4chan ebic meem pictures would be extremely discouraging. The fact that the first bit of information anyone could find out about it was that the dump was moderator-encouraged made it even worse.

There have been a few other examples, like the Smash thread, but yeah.

These threads do exist, they tend to just run into the problem of not remaining on the front page for very long since they're a bit more low-traffic for whatever reason. I'm not really sure of a solution for that though.

What would you have wanted to happen?

A different way of mocking bad posts? Probations to the weird or sick pedo defenders or to the picture spam?

People opening the thread got a glimpse of what was going on in that game at that time. The guild chat was also pretty terrible. I'd say it was an accurate representation.

There were people making GBS threads up the guild chat and thread.
There were people complaining that nothing was being done to the guild chat and thread.
And we had people so upset about it they worked together to abuse the report function in order to prove a point which backfired when there were other ways they could of handled it.

The best part about that thread were the people constantly saying to stop talking about it or drop it but kept being the ones to bring it back up like wolpertingers 4 page thesis on the subject matter when it was dropped.
