When you punched that enemy into Lois and she fell down, I thought you'd killed her. Would not have been the worst thing the game's done to you so far. Also "Oh, please, stop shooting her. Shoot me instead". Could have meant Superman, could have meant the person playing Superman.

I really like how you had to escort Lois down that hallway at her painfully slow walking speed, and absolutely nothing happens. Unless you get bored and try to go ahead, at which point she'll stop walking and the game will spawn one single shadow you have to go back and punch.

Got to say, you're actually getting pretty good with what this game has for a combat system. That is to say, 'flying into things and then flying away so you can line up your next swoop.'

It is completely possible to beat this stage legitimately without the ice breath. I'm not sure that it's possible to do it without abandoning Lois, but freezing her is entirely optional. It's also fun to freeze her in a solid block of ice that would kill her, though, so I'm glad you decided to do it that way. It's also possible to skip the entire level, but I'm pretty sure Proton Jon showed that one off if you want to see it. Speaking of Proton Jon, the next video will be as far as he got. This was the last action stage he covered, so all of the future ones will be blind for almost everyone. As for the ride stages, well, he did one more, but you probably already know what to expect from those. Hint: It's rings.

I'm sure you can but seeing her run ahead and then get blasted by Metallo was something I was not risking again. I didn't want to do it because it felt cheap but after three failed attempts and two videos it was the best option. Also I was discounting the mentions that the game audio was in one channel but it occurred to me a cord was probably loose so that should be fixed next time.

Metallo standing stock still and flying off near the end was the highlight of the video for me, I think. At least he didn't glitch into the ceiling and force a reset?

A puzzle that does not have a logical link between the question and the answer is not a puzzle. When it is the equivalent of guess what number I am thinking of with an answer of 17/3 +2 that is not a puzzle.

When I had this game as a kid I passed the time by trying to fly places by turning as slowly as possible in order to avoid the whoosh noise. This is what passes for fun when playing Superman 64.

Didn't remember the Daily Planet in the game? That's because it isn't! We're going to THE GARAGE instead. Yes the exciting world of the Daily Planet garage. That isn't sarcasm either if this garage existed in real life it would be one of the wonders of the modern world. This video is 30 minutes long. I make zero progress in the level and get lost and confused several times. In the end I shut it off in frustration after trying to consult the strategy guide. If this sounds like a winner to you tune in for half an hour of bullshit, N64 game discussion, childhood memories and some swear words. There's no reason it should be doing that. I must also have some inability to notice this because I edited the video with headphones on and didn't notice so I thought it was fixed. Will deal with that in the next video.

Holy hell, I thought the warehouse was bad. It's kind of amazing that each indoor level manages to be even more meandering and pointless then the last. I don't see how they could top this one thought. It's like the video game equivalent to No Exit.

I was going to joke that the level spontaneously rearranges its layout every ten minutes, but after watching the video, someone might have actually believed me. What I'll say instead is that at one point during the level, we saw the entrance to where Jimmy is. And we only saw it once. That's how big this level is and how easy it is to get lost.

You're wonderfully capturing the awfulness of this game. Lots of identical hallways and bullshit with no clear direction where to go = nothing but fun. Why does every dude take two hits to kill but one punch destroys a tank?

Oh, the parking garage. I definitely remember the parking garage. And this level isn't actually too bad once you know where everything thing. I think about 80% of this level is entirely pointless and just exists as a stupid maze. I had a rule that helped, but since I know you don't want any help from the peanut gallery I'll save it for after the level is done. Also yay, you had your first taste of falling though the level geometry! When I played this game, I didn't really understand level design, so it never even occurred to me that was a thing that could happen before this game. You're lucky you found a way back in, though. I have restarted levels many times because I fell through the floor and couldn't get back.

Yes, but it is weird wearing headphones and having him talk in both ears and the game sound only be in one. That said, when it is working, stereo is the one thing they got right and you can tell what side off screen the gunmen, bomb-bots, or big stompy robots are.

Want to watch three failed attempts? Probably not but here they are anyway! If you don't want to watch the entire video at least watch until my first failure and then skip to the last few minutes. It's worth it. The whole thing is probably worth it but I have no idea if anyone would ever want to watch 48 minutes of this. This level. There are a lot of things about this level which make it kind of the watershed moment of the game for me, but the biggest has to be the premise. You're taking Darkseid to the police. Now, I don't know how many of you know about Darkseid, but he's kind of a big deal. Entire world bend and break at his passing, that sort of thing. What the gently caress are the cops going to do with him? I like to imagine Darksied down at central booking later, wearing handcuffs and sitting in a folding chair while a tired looking booking officer goes over his file.

Well after having his incredibly grandiose and intricate plans continuously foiled by Superman and other DC heroes, maybe he decided to switch it up a bit and go back to the basics. Obviously Superman had a lot of trouble in that last video, so I'd say it may have been a wise choice on Darksied's part.

Benach posted:I would enjoy a 100% Blast Corps LP. I don't know that 100% would be particularly worth it. I think it's probably better to end a Blast Corps LP at all golds and maybe a couple of the easier platinums just to show them off. Otherwise, there are two choices. Speedrun the hell out of the entire game and have to explain why you're aiming for absurd times far below what you need for gold, or replay the entire game faster after you get all the golds. There are some levels where the speed tricks are interesting enough to justify a second look, but for every one of those, there are two or three "follow this line really fast" levels. I used to speedrun the game before someone decided that it needed to be more competitive than I was interested in, so I'm not just talking out of my rear end here. Unless you're one of the top ten or so speedrunners, 100% Blast Corps wouldn't be a great fit for the LP format. Even then, you'd probably have to include a decent amount of slow motion or pausing so you could explain what exactly you were doing. For example, I can beat the Skyfall training level under the platinum time of four seconds, but I'd need more than four seconds to explain it. Especially if that was the only time the level would appear in the LP. If the previous two paragraphs went entirely over your head: The game pulls out a "now do it faster" when you finally have all the gold medals and introduces the platinum. It's basically just a challenge to beat all the developer times with no interesting reward if you actually do it. GauRocks fucked around with this message at 13:25 on Jan 25, 2015 |
