I absolutely love schooling other feminists about how the patriarchy isn't a thing an the oppression they're feeling is actually better described through the ideological framework of class struggle. I never even read Marx. It owns.

I'm no expert but I don't think the point is that a rich woman is worse off than a poor man, but that a rich woman would be worse off than an equally rich man/a poor woman would be worse off than an equally poor man. Like if you could snap a finger and fix race and class issues overnight there would still be statistically observable difference in how men and women are treated.

In all honesty none of us are really sure whats going on or why we are here so the least we can all do is to stop blaming each other so much (and dont be so hard on yourself either). So much is noise, and people trying to get one over on each other. It doesn't have to be that way if you don't want it to, I say. Level with someone, and they will level back. It's hard to do, but that's where reconciliation happens.

that never happens IME, if you try to 'get real' with people you come off as a ripe human being, the best thing to do is brain them from behind with something heavy like a chair leg, "communication without misunderstanding" haha

It's true My gay degree is in peace and conflict studies and i wrote my thesis on how reconciliation is largely unattainable in almost all conflict situations around the world, unless one side wins or the goals shift somehow. I also said other stuff but i forget it. The same thing is largely true for individuals as well. Battle lines rarely change too much, because the conflicts are structural, not "procedural", there is no give and take when you require the whole shebang from the start. Basically you can't treat others like equals when you want something from them imo, somethins gotta give. I believe both posts of mine

The one thing I learned from my course on transnational feminism is that most of feminism outside the USA is about them trying to distance themselves from American fmnsm.

Harime Nui posted:This is a really hosed up thing to say, I'm sry ppl sometimes I speak w/out thinking I agree though, you can't actually level with someone or an organization if you've still got cards in your hand to play. And most of the time, if not all the time, "open dialogue" is just a way to have all the appearances of levelling while still keeping the most important things in reserve, because there are still things at stake. It's a big charade basically, no matter where it takes place. You can have forums and dialogues and heart to hearts, but don't pretend they will be honest and transparent, everyones got cards to play and cards to hold. All the dumb poo poo I "studied" missed that part imo. People in general like my honesty I think, but they don't realize it's a destructive honesty, it's for me. edit The other part is the introspection, I held my cards close until I saw slightly more clearly why I felt what I felt and thought what I thought. If I want something, I play cards and I hold cards like everyone else. You can't be totally upfront *and* get what you want, I know that all too well. Just thought I'd say somethin about it, this feminist business uses honesty and the wish for it as a weapon just like everyone else. steinrokkan posted:The one thing I learned from my course on transnational feminism is that most of feminism outside the USA is about them trying to distance themselves from American fmnsm. Goon critique is the worst though..more indignancy than content most of the time. Edit but people are more likely to say what they really think when theyre mad in general..doesnt have to be fishing for critique. Sometimes when youve heard all the same bullshit over and over, you want someone to say something different for a change. Well i do. Bit of a divergence from the topic, but my mate that served 5 years as a sniper in the army with a deployment to afghan linked this recently, written by a female http://www.westernjournalism.com/the-problems-of-women-in-combat-from-a-female-combat-vet/ I found it really interesting, and if I was there, probably true. Thankfully I have a desk job where I just post to SA and look at porn. Sorry to be serious feminists. To be on topic imagine we are talking about, idk, ranger class or sniper class.

When preparing for battle, the last thing on your mind should be sex; but you put men and women in close quarters together, and human nature is what it is (this is also why the repeal of DADT is so damaging).
