LaughMyselfTo posted:I will concede that there are aspects of the case that are not black and white. It's ambiguous whether we can still appreciate Polanski's pre-rape art. (I think we can.) It's ambiguous how wrong it is, exactly, to not despise Polanski. (I think it's very wrong, though not nearly as wrong as what Polanski did.) It's ambiguous whether we should place heavy pressure on France to return him, up to and including declaring war on them. (I think we should.) But the core of the case is absolutely black and white.

I just watched Bad Santa yesterday and I really liked it as usual. However the Director's Cut was missing a few scenes I really liked, such as Thurman kicking the bully in the nuts. I thought that was a much better payoff than him simply cleaning dried blood off his driveway. Spoilers, OBVIOUSLY.

The true villain in Short Circuit 2 was us, the viewer. The context of Johnny 5 "being alive" stems from us granting the film power by watching it, when he "dies" it's us, the viewer beoin;sjnbajbv,.snvshutupshutupshutupshutupshutupshutupshutup.

I'm watching Home Alone on Christmas, because I feel like my year isn't complete if I haven't seen Kevin McCallister praying over a bowl of Kraft Mac and Cheese. I was always sad he never got to eat any of that. It just went cold, and Kraft is (even more) disgusting after it's heated up in the microwave. It does not heat up well at all. This is the level of discourse you can expect from me when discussing movies.

But what does the Mac n Cheese represent? Could it be the transition to manhood as young Kevin has to abandon it (his youth) to face up to the villains (maturity and responsibility) Home Alone is a very deep movie.

this is so deeply dumb, the fact of an artist's rape has basically nothing to do with appreciation of that artist's work and is just moral weakness in the contrary case

I had a good time watching Goldfinger last week. Sean Connery's Bond nails that constant deceptive poker face. Goldfinger leaves a little to be desired as an intimidating supervillian, though. He clearly possesses an excellent mind for schemes, but he comes off as such a buffoon. I suppose the threat of Oddjob helps make up for that. I especially liked the climatic fight between him and Bond. Bond would land some harsh blows, but Oddjob wouldn't flinch. He just kept smiling.

I watched the first third of the BBC's version of Smilys People with my dad, it was good. The pace is kept pretty slow, compared to say the new version of tinker taylor soldier spy, which I appreciated cause I more enjoyed watching the characters develop at a reasonable pace rather than trying to fit the whole plot into 2 hours. We only have the first VHS though, so that's all I saw. We're gonn get dad the old version of tinker taylor soldier spy for christmas, should be cool.
