If an external force can bend the mighty corporations to their will, who can we rely upon? Certainly not the fascistic/socialistic/sharia/communistic Obama regime.

Ok, I haven't been following all this very closely, but let me see if I get the gist of it: North Korea supposedly has hackers despite not really having internet access, and uses those hackers against Sony. Sony bitches and moans a bunch, and bloo bloo bloo about free speech etc. Obama claims he will issue orders for a proportional response, and says that North Korea are totally state sponsors of terrorism. North Korea's websites, none of which are based out of North Korea (because they don't have internet access there), aren't reachable for about a day. Lots of attention (aka "free" advertising) is paid to a film which probably wasn't going to do all that well, which is then released anyway to probable increased success, and everyone can go back to hating (or newly hating) North Korea as a boogeyman again. Did I miss anything? Of course the movie came out; it was never not going to come out. (P.S. NK has a lovely regime, but that has gently caress all to do with this)

jalopybrown posted:lots, emails were leaked which make sony people look bad and racist and stuff, other cool files were stolen too so the inside advertising job thing was pretty dumb if true Ok, so someone leaked some emails. Do we know that's the North Koreans? And whatever files were stolen, were those leaked? Or does Sony just not have them now? "Oh poo poo a bunch of compromising emails were leaked, let's draw attention away from that" seems like an okay strategy too. I guess what I'm saying is that the whole thing seems a little fishy. I can't put my finger on exactly how, though, if it's not just a really bizarre political/advertising stunt. I suppose it may just be a matter of seeing how it all plays out.

Parallax Scroll posted:i also think sony leaked their employees salaries and medical records as an advertising stunt This makes a little better sense. Like I said, I haven't really kept up with the whole thing in any depth. I just found out today that it was being released, then noticed this thread a bit ago. I guess it just comes down to really good spin on Sony's part.

i'd liek to think that most u.s. intelligence agencies have devolved into circles of nepotistic old men who keep everyone out as much as possible and barely know how to use their old-rear end information gathering tools while they're being laughed at by teenagers all over the world.

Well I mean if the hackers didn't bother clearing the logs (why would they since they wanted people to know Sony were hacked) they can see what files were copied and poo poo, I'd presume they didn't do it directly from an NK IP though so your right that they can't link it directly to them through that.
