Sydney is like LA, its really good for tourists but not much more, opera house, bridge etc Melbourne is more about "the arts", office buildings, shopping and hipsters, it's got a really nice casino right in the middle of the city Brisbane is Miami, its a cool city thats sunny and got nice beaches but its in a state full of bros and swamp hillbillies Adelaide is a big small town trying to trick you into thinking its a city. avoid if you can Darwin's the same as adelaide but with crocodiles, basically you only go to darwin as a base camp for a trip into the northern territory Perth's where all the white south africans escaped to when apartheid fell Melbournes easily the best place to live, but it doesnt have as many touristy "destinations" as sydney or brisbane

Adelaide's been out-hipstering Melbourne for a good year or two now, and with less pretentiousness too

a posting ghost posted:Im looking into this too now op...416 working holiday visa right? Would be cool Yup. A lot of people do it- something like 50,000 a year. The visa costs like 300 USD, and the ticket's around a grand, but work is easy to find and if you live smart you'll make that money back in no time. Plus Australia's beautiful, and no matter what anyone says Aussies pretty much have to be nicer than Americans

Get a train ticket to Sydney and I'll get you hosed up and all kinds of laid. I meet an American or Canadian here like once a week and seriously I'll get you into the culture so much you'll owe me like 2 grand before you leave.

abigserve posted:I drove 5000ks across the center of Australia (camping the whole time). It loving sucks. There was one really crazy thing though - driving 8-12 hours a day for a week completely distorts your sense of time, so much so that a 3 hour car trip feels like a ride to the shops, it's surreal. Yeah, I did 4 months on the road after college (pretty much a lap of the US) in 2011, and to this day I can just hop in my car and drive from Philly to Massachusetts or Virginia and it's NBD. I actually really like driving "long" distances now

Made $42 an hour dishwashing one day on Queens Birthday in Melbourne. hosed some super hot girls. Did a motorcycle trip from Melbs to Cairns. OP get on the V-Line and visit a town called Castlemaine. If you're into nature and/or crocodiles, visit Kakadu and the Top End. Go during the dry season (Aussie winter) though.
