Guess Versteeg's hand is dead then. He was actually pretty good this year on that line with Kane and Richards. :(

So its probably safe to assume Sharp goes back to 2nd line, but Im kinda curious how Q will organize that bottom 6.
I'm guessing Bickell up to the second and Sharp on Teuvo's wing to help him along. Versteeg was playing way better this year, definitely didn't expect it after how garbage he was last year.

Watch the highlight of the first goal (Brad Malone). The Gross Man's attempt at defending a 2-on-1 is straight out of EA sports. Maybe the fancystat charts are right?

Haha why the gently caress is Benning even talking about this stuff, isn't it all up to the coach?

But I'm sure him calling Kassian's points last year useless because they were scored in "garbage time" helped his trade value

ThinkTank
Oct 23, 2007

I mean he's right, but yeah it's probably not his place. Kassian is a fairly run of the mill skilled fourth line forward if he's not using his strength. He's about as effective as Matthias with the way he's chosen to play this year. I don't get people's fascination with him, he's a pretty unspectacular player and if he's not being physical he's a total non factor. He's out of the lineup because he's been our 13th best forward so this year.

Still, I'm not opposed to Benning publicly criticising him. If that doesn't light a fire under his rear end nothing will.

every time kassian tries to hit someone he becomes replacement level. he's a perimeter playmaker not a ducking power forward

Getzlaf doesn't blow people up and everyone considers him a power forward. Learning to out muscle defenders and fight your way to the front of the net is crucial for him because he's not skilled enough to be a pure set up man from the outside. He plays like Taylor Pyatt lite right now.

getzlaf (and thornton, another large playmaker) is talented beyond a point of comparison for zack kassian and is also a centre. he doesnt have the capacity to do that and he clearly isn't going to learn. when he's given the right direction he's a third line playmaking winger whos hard to push around and will fight sometimes. hes never going to be more than that

scratching him or putting him on the fourth line until he learns the impossible while shittalking his periods of actual success is a good way to get a conditional pick for him in six weeks. i long for the days when gillis was overthinking how to showcase hodgson over benning making GBS threads out of his mouth

But I agree that Kassian could be a perfectly serviceable third liner.

Yes, but I bet youre even more excited to see Stalberg back. And that one move he does where gets the puck, breaks out at blinding speed, then loses the puck along the boards or shoots it wide. Every. Time.

He's been kind of invisible this year. Hopefully he does better in Nashville than Milwaukee.

Stalberg looked good in the Admirals last game though.

they need someone in front of the net. i think he could fill the hornqvist role pretty nicely whenever he's actually ready. i doubt he's up long now.

e: from the sounds of it, neal is going on IR. he left practice early today and now 2 guys get called up. hoo boy. hopefully that's wrong.

They could put Sharp up with Richards-Kane and slot Teuvo in between Shaw and Bickell., although that might be me just projecting my hopes that Shaw will go back to wing.

Either way I'm just glad we'll get to see Teuvo play up here for a while :allears:

i'd like to see hickey carry the puck more but he doesn't really have to because he's always paired with visnovsky and lubo always does that on his own, and also because his passing is his strongest asset, especially under pressure. he is really good at making smart and calm decisions with the puck. he's somewhat over-permissive in terms of the space he gives opposing forwards on the rush but it's by no means a dealbreaker. he's a good enough skater not to do that but i think he's (and the other defensemen on the team for that matter) under a coaching imperative to hang back through the neutral zone.

i honestly think any one of the isles' 3 regular D pairings could replace at the very least the worst regular pairing on any other team in the league and be an improvement
