I got pulled over on the way to the office this morning. The nice cop lady looked at me and the press tag on the dash and laughed, because I forgot to turn on my lights after leaving the gas station for my morning coffee. Was not drunk, sent on my way to work. God I love being fat and white

In the last 24 hours we have had 9 calls with 4 of them being ambulance calls 2 being motorist assists 1 funeral escort a paper service and a false alarm. No arrests.

depends on the type of call. Our ambulance is 100% volunteer and their response time is pretty lovely so if it is chest pain/bleeding/ short of breath we go if it is grammy has a tummy ache we don't go. Theres two people on the crew who always partner up that demand we assist with lifting on every patient so if they are on call we end up just going because those loving lazy shits will ask for us any way.

Had a call at 11pm last night, some guy was barking through his neighbours letterbox. Turned out the evil bastard had poisoned her dog a few weeks ago and we hadn't managed to charge him with it. Also, Hezzy, we went for a briefing at your London South Division HQ. It was the cleanest police station I've ever seen and ridiculously well furnished. I bet they didn't even have rats in the canteen. All the officers seemed jolly and motivated and happy to be there, it was like opposites day.

Small beer but we kept him in a piss sodden cell until this morning. Because of me being a special needs officer I don't deal with sex offenders but this guy comes pretty close in my book. We should have left him in a cell with a police Alsatian for an hour.

That's because London BTP are a special elite club with lots of money and no work Literally all of their jobs get handed to a team that does all the paperwork and case files, all they have to do is arrest people and give a witness statement / brief circs of what happened Whereas up North I'm investigating about 3 jobs that would have normally been passed onto CID in the Home Office forces At our passing out parade, all the London Underground bobbies had tunics because their division paid for them. Nobody else did.

Sounds about right, we were answering calls at London Bridge Station while I know for a fact BTP were having extended NYE refs at their fancy pants station with 24 hour canteen. I shouldn't hate though, it's just jealousy. All most uniform down here do is nick someone, run a few checks and CRIMINT entries, do a statement or EAB (hand written pro-forma statement book) and pass it on to the shiny suits. You can get away with magistrates court in operational kit if it's for a traffic offense or disputing a ticket, but Crown and coroners has to be tunics. In most boroughs it's sleeves down unless it's a night duty and you've got to wear a tie. Tunic and trousers with chain and whistle costs something like £230. I like wearing my tunic, you get attention off skirt.

post pictures of this tunic. Americops dress uniform is usually just our standard long sleeve uniform with a tie, unless your department likes to be dicks and throws in an ike jacket and trooper hat, both of which are guaranteed not to fit.

Mine is a bit simpler on account of being the (almost) bottom rank That's attestation day, when I have to swear to behave myself infront of a dis-interested and hung over Judge  That's graduation day with about 600 of us wearing them. They also get worn on a handful of other occasions like the Queens Birthday, Remembrance Sunday, Military parades, Embassy duty etc. The officers guarding the queen have extra large trouser pockets to keep a glock and clips tucked away.

There is an ex Para Sergeant who works on my patch, he has a full chest of medals on his tunic left over from about 15 years in the army. Apparently he gets taken a lot more seriously when he's in court.

That is me, I've got quite a few from 20 years of rugby. The one by my eye looks fresh but it's 14 years old, some oval office with running studs crushed my cheekbone in a game, tore the skin back to the bone and it's never healed properly.

Most of David Simon's experience with the cops came from his 1989 experience with the Baltimore Homicide unit, when drinking and driving (and drinking in general) was way more acceptable than now. Not saying it doesn't happen, but not any more or less than general population.
