the US has or is in process of building almost all of their available 4-turn bombers until 1944.

but their production multiple increases to 2 this turn, so they should be making over 100 build points a turn now. :patriot:

that bicycle division in nagasaki will definitely turn things around for japan, i can't wait. the P-61 the US just built looks bad-rear end too. how does night fighting really work, anyway? is it just the art of being able to tell where the enemy is when they can't see you?

also your picture under "Australia deploys a Mosquito fighter unit to Melbourne:" is the same as the one for USSR deploying around Perm two pictures or so earlier.

-Brazil moves their ships from Rio, and USA moves the Tennessee from Nofolk, to the River Plate:

-Commonwealth transports the Belgian infantry unit from the Congo to Algeria:

-Commonwealth moves the ships in Cape Town to the Cape Basin:

Naval combat:
-USA flips the Chester face down to search for the Japanese convoys in the South China Sea:

The Allies search roll is 1. The search is successful. The Axis d10 roll is 3. The Allies will have (3+4) (1+0) 6 surprise points.

The combat is a naval air combat. The Allies are attacking with 10 air to sea factors against 5 tankers and 5 convoys (5 ships). The Axis have no AA attack values. The initial Allies attack result is 1 sunk and 2 damaged. The Allies spend 6 surprise points to increase their attack result to 2 sunk, 2 damaged, and 3 aborts.

The Allies attack 2 tankers for the first sunk result. A convoy defense value is 10. The convoys are sunk.

The Axis apply the second sunk result to 2 convoys. They are sunk.

The Allies sink 1 tanker for the first damaged result. It is sunk.

The Axis apply the second damaged result to 1 convoy. It is sunk.

The Allies attack 1 tanker for the first abort. It is sent back to the Hiroshima

The Axis apply the second abort to 1 convoy. It is aborted back to Hiroshima.

The Allies attack 1 tanker for the final abort result. It is moved to Hiroshima.

Each side remains in the sea zone. The Allies search roll is 8. The search is not successful.

-USA flips the Milwaukee face down to search for the Axis convoy in the Marianas:

The Allied search roll is 2. The search is successful. The Axis d10 roll is 1. The Allies will have (1+4) (2+0) 3 surprise points. The combat is a naval air combat. The Axis have no AA value in the sea zone.

The Alies are attacking with 12 air-to-sea factors against 1 convoy. The initial Allied attack result is 1 sunk, 1 damaged, and 2 aborts. The convoy is sunk. No Axis units remain in the sea zone.

-Commonwealth flips the Sydney face down in the Italian Coast to search for the Axis convoy:

Due to the weather, the search roll receives a +1 modifier. The Allies d10 roll is 3 increased to 4. The Allies are successful with the units in the 4 box. The Axis d10 roll is 1 increased to 2. The Allies will have (1+4) (3+0) 2 surprise points.

The combat is a naval air combat. The Allies are attacking with 8 air-to-sea factors against 1 convoy. The initial Allied attack result is 1 sunk and 1 damaged. The convoy is sunk. No Axis units remain in the sea zone.

No strategic bombing/carpet bombing missions are done.

No ground strike missions are made.

No rail movement occurs.

Land movement:
-USSR moves units toward the central front:

-USSR moves units in Siberia:

-USSR moves units along the Leningrad front:

-Communist China moves units an infantry unit in central China:

No air transport is done.

No units are debarked from a sea zone.

No amphibious invasions are made.

No paradrops are made.

Land combat:
-USSR attacks the units along the Leningrad front:

The USSR is attacking with a total value of 36. The defending units have a value of 11. THe fighter in the hex is flying in ground support for an additional 1. The total value is 36:12, a ratio of 3:1. The initial combat modifier is +6. That is decreased to +2 due to the snow. The Soviets have four white print units, the negative weather value is reduced to a 0; so the total combat modifier is back to +6. The Germans have a defending mountain unit in snow, that is decreased back to +5. There are no additional modifiers.

The combat is on the assault table. The 2d10 roll is 16, increased to 21. The combat result is -/1S. The defending mountain unit is destroyed. It has to be the mountain unit first as it was used to decrease the attack modifier. (sorry, OperaMouse). The defending motorized unit is shattered and will be placed in Lodz as a reinforcement at the start of the next turn. The aircraft used is rebased. The attacking units can move into the hex and suffer no losses, but half of the attacking units are flipped face-down.

No guards banner army units can be created from the attacking units.

Aircraft rebase missions:
-USA rebases two bomber units from England to North Africa:

-Commonwealth rebases a fighter unit from Melbourne to northern Australia:

-Commonwealth rebases the fighter unit from Montreal to Newfoundland:

No HQ reorganization is done.

The end of turn roll cannot be made yet.

The impulse marker flips to the Axis side.

Noooo, my Alpine division. Hopefully soon rebuilt. Now let's see the counter attack.

Also, great to see an update again.

that bicycle division in nagasaki will definitely turn things around for japan, i can't wait. the P-61 the US just built looks bad-rear end too. how does night fighting really work, anyway? is it just the art of being able to tell where the enemy is when they can't see you?

also your picture under "Australia deploys a Mosquito fighter unit to Melbourne:" is the same as the one for USSR deploying around Perm two pictures or so earlier.
the photo was fixed.

For night fighting; any aircraft mission, excluding naval air combat or a port strike, can be done either day or night. Unless the player specifies night, the aircraft missions are made during day.

If it's at night, the bombing and ground attack factors are halved. And during the air combat, the result is one result below what the normal result would be; an AX result
becomes a DX, a DX becomes an AA, an AA becomes a DA and so on. A DC result is unaffected. Also at night, only night fighters contribute to the total air combat values.

Friend Commuter posted:

Boy oh boy, just look at all those aircraft carriers the USA is building. I know they built the things by the shitload historically, but it's still kind of impressive.
yep, during the war, the USN had plans for 32 Essex-class ships and only built 24, before the Midways were started. One would have to assume in a larger war they would have planned and built more.

I still only have the most vague idea of what's going on, but more P-38's is never a bad thing.
Your unit is probably going to Europe, either via the Newfoundland-Greenland-Iceland-UK route or the Carribbean-Brazil-West Africa-North Africa route.

November/December 1943, Axis impulse 1:

Weather:
There is snow in the Arctic and North Temperate areas; rain in the Mediterranean and South Monsoon areas; clear weather in all other areas.

There is a +1 modifier added to the next weather roll. The impulse track will move up 2 spaces.

Declarations of war:
The Axis make no declarations of war this impulse.

Germany will choose a land impulse. They will have no naval moves, 4 air missions, 3 rail moves, unlimited land moves, and unlimited land attacks.

Italy will choose a naval impulse. They will have unlimited naval moves, 2 air missions, no rail moves, no land moves, and no land attacks.

Japan will choose a naval impulse. They will have unlimited naval moves, 2 air missions, no rail moves, no land moves, and no land attacks.

No port attacks are made.

Naval air missions:
-Japan flies two bombers to the China Sea:

-Italy flies two bomber units to the Italian Coast

Naval movement:
-Japan moves 1 convoy to the Bismarck Sea:

-Japan moves a sub to the Marshalls:

-Japan moves a sub to the Central Pacific:

-Japan moves 1 convoy, 2 tankers, ships and carriers from Shanghai and Japan to the China Sea:

-Japan moves 2 tankers from Tokyo and ships and carriers from Singapore to the South China Sea:

-Italy moves ships from Genoa and Taranto to the Italian Coast:

-Italy moves subs to the North Atlantic:

-Italy moves subs to the Cape Verde Basin:

Naval combat:
-Italy flips the Diaz face down to search for the Allied ships in the Italian Coast:

Due to the weather, the search roll recieves a +1 modifier. The Axis d10 roll is 3 increased to 4. The Allies search roll is 3 increased to 4. Both sides are successful. The Italian aircraft in the 3 box and units in the 4 box are included. The Allies ships in the 4 box are included. Neither side has an advantage in surprise points (4+4) (4+4).

The combat is a naval air combat.

The Allied carrier planes are all flying as bombers and clear through. The Axis have no fighters in the sea zone. The P38 is fighting the attacking Italian bombers. The Allies are at +3; the Axis at -3 on the combat table.

The Allies 2d10 roll is 15, which shoots down the first attacking bomber. THe pilot survives. The Italian pilot reserve increases to 9. The Axis 2d10 roll is 9, which has no effect. The remaining attacking bomber voluntarily aborts and returns to base.

The Allies are attacking with 8 air to sea factors from 6 bombers. The Axis have 21 AA factors from 18 ships. The lowest two of four d10 rolls are the number of attackng factors turned away. The d10 rolls are 9, 5, 8, 4. All attacking factors are turned away.

Each side remains in the sea zone. The Axis d10 roll is 8 increased to 9. The Allies d10 roll is 2 increased to 3. Only the Allies are successful. They will attack the Axis ships in the 4 box. The Allies will have (8+4) (3+4) 5 surprise points.

The combat is a naval air combat. Only the Allies have aircraft remaining. The Allies are attacking with 8 air-to-sea factors from 6 bombers. The Axis have 21 AA factors from 18 ships. The Axis spend 2 of their surprise points to decrease the Axis AA value to the highest one of two d10 rolls for the AA defense. The d10 rolls 2, 3. 3 attacking factors are turned away leaving 5.

The initial Allied attack result is 1 sunk, 1 damaged, and 2 aborts.

The Allies attack the Littorio for the sunk result. Her defense value is 2. The d10 roll is 7. She is damaged and remains at sea.

The Allies spend their 3 remaining surprise points to attack the Littorio again for the damaged result. Her defense value is now 3. The d10 roll is 1. She recieves a second damaged result and is sunk.

The Allies attack the Caio Duilio for the first abort result. Her defense value is 5. The d10 roll is 4. She is aborted to Taranto.

The Axis apply the second abort result to the Vittorio Veneto. Her defense value is 2. The defense roll is 8. She remains at sea.

Each side remains in the sea zone. The Axis d10 roll is 6. The Allies d10 roll is 7. Neither side finds the other.

Each side remains. The Axis search roll is 6. The search is not successful.

No strategic bombing/carpet bombing missions are done.

No ground strike missions are made.

-Italy flips a sub face down to search for the Allied convoys in the North Atlantic:

we are all growing old together and slowly turning into powder :corsair:

the US would need an HQ unit there since they do not cooperate with Communist units. But you could launch ground attack or strategic bombing missions with American aircraft against the Axis units, then the Viet Minh forces could fight the ground combat. that actually gives me a good idea for some filler.

Resources and build points can be given with lend-lease like with the other countries, at least until if there is a Communist/West war.

yay, thanks for keeping it up! btw i noticed a thing near the end of the post:

"The Axis spend 2 of their surprise points to decrease the Axis AA value to the highest one of two d10 rolls for the AA defense."

i suspect the first Axis in that sentence should be Allies

Wow, since this thread's last update there's been a whole new version of World In Flames released, AND their VASSAL module (which I think will is using for the graphics) now costs $40.

I miss these simpler times.
