I don't know what to read into this, if anything, but New Beginning in Osaka isn't listed as Live on the NJPW World schedule. Everything else is, but not that one.

The "putting up the ring" part of the pregame starts at 3 PM EST today. I'll be watching that and the NFL playoffs on two screens because I am a huge nerd.

You wanna get through this?
Like others, I've hopped on board thanks to Wrestle Kingdom hype, and I'm watching the Okada v. Tanahashi match at King of Pro-Wrestling 2013 to prepare for tonight's show. Does Tanahashi normally heel it up even as a super face, or is it just against Okada? Between his playing possum with the leg in this match and him targeting Okada's arm in the Invasion Attack show, Tanahashi seems kind of like a dick!

Only against Okada and Nakamura, because they're the only guys who out-face pop Tanahashi. Otherwise, he is the ultimate squeaky-clean, white-meat babyface.

Which makes it sound like I dislike him, which is miles from the truth. He is the king for a reason.

I love how during the IA match Okada botches the bridging arm stretch and still gets face pops by mugging for the audience after finally pulling it off.

Tana will work heel if he knows he's not getting cheered over his opponent. Last 2 G1s he's worked heel against Ishii as well. Depends on the day, the opponent etc. At the end of it though he doesn't cheat, just acts a little more dickish than normal.

Their TV show is just a recap of major events, there is no Raw type weekly tv show. Just watch the live events and you'll be fine. All big PPV shows and house shows from Korakuen are on the service.

The big shows are what matter, though there's a Korakuen show tonight/tomorrow that they're pushing as a 'Raw after Mania' type show. Then the 2 New Beginning shows are the next big shows in February. Also Fantasticamania which is 2 NJPW/CMLL joint shows. Usually we know the cards for shows a few days after the last show so we have time to get hype.

They have a co-promoted tour in the US/Canada in May but haven't announced how it will be distributed.

Is New Japan doing a joint PPV with Ring of Honor again this year?

ROH announced four joint shows, but haven't said anything PPV-wise, just locations. There's one in NYC, one in Chicago, one in Toronto, and a fourth TBA. NJ confirmed during their schedule video last night that the shows will be in May, after Wrestling Dontaku and before BOSJ.

Actually it sounds like it's just back to back nights in Toronto at this point.

NJPW New Year's Dash was a really fun show with some big surprises and you guys should definitely watch.

Here's how the title picture seems to be shaping up:

Hiroshi Tanahashi vs AJ Styles for IWGP Heavy
Shinsuke Nakamura vs Yuji Nagata for IWGP IC
Togi Makabe vs Tomohiro Ishii in a rematch for the NEVER Openweight
Jushin Liger vs. Tiger Mask IV for NWA Jr. Heav, mean

he knows..
Would've rather seen Suzuki challenge for the heavyweight belt. Tanahashi already beat AJ twice recently. Nagata is fine for a one and done IC challenger. I don't understand having Ishii lose the belt if he's not getting time off. I can see him winning it back so that he gets a big win over Makabe but Makabe got the win on the bigger show, which is annoying WWE-like even-steven, ostensibly-put-the-lower-ranked-guy-over-but-not-really booking. I'm more interested in what their plans are for Suzuki, Ibushi and Honma.

It mentioned the back-to-back Toronto nights in the Observer update yesterday. Didn't say that was ALL they're doing, but I get the feeling that's probably the case at this point.

If it's AJ vs Tana then AJ has to be winning, that then can set up big matches against Okada (since he's never beaten Styles in a title match) or Naito (revenge for the Dome defeat). Suzuki's no doubt in line for a title shot at some point, and after his Dome match there's no better person to get the Calf Killer over as a submission finisher. Hell I'd be down with Suzuki beating Okada in the NJC final and having that G1 rematch.

As for Ishii, I think he'll lose the rematch because of his bad shoulder, then finally takes some time off and comes back healed and then you can say no-one can beat a healthy Ishii for the NEVER title.

Basically I Believe In Gedo.

Buying a ticket for the second night of the two Toronto shows is probably the smarter money if I can only attend one, right?

It got lost in all the GDT stuff, but the Japanese announcer called Ibushi's move a "swan dive german."
swan dive is just a generic term lots of puro announcers use instead of springboard, both because it sounds cool and is way easier to scream with a Japanese accent.
