It spun off of LUE, which was a social forum part of GameFAQs. I never used GameFAQS, so I wasn't there for all this (got my account from a college friend) but apparently people got tired of GameFAQs not allowing offensive material or letting people post links to illegal material, so this guy (who also helped found Facebook and is super mega rich, which is why he can afford to run a site that takes up that much bandwidth for free https://www.facebook.com/4) made a site called LUELinks where basically anything was allowed to be posted content wise, and it ended up being a massive link website where you could get everything from extremely obscure artists discographies to any textbook you'd need for college to whatever the gently caress else. When MegaUpload went down, all of the links posted became useless. LlamaGuy got scared and said that there would be no more piracy on the website anymore. Spinoff sites have emerged, but they are no where near as good, so all that's left is the social aspect of the website, meaning a lot of the userbase left completely. Now, I've been around SA that whole time as well, since I was 13-14 or so. My cousin is Hung0v3r, the guy who did the whole Mr. Water saga (http://forums.somethingawful.com/dictionary.php?act=3&topicid=1363). That whole time I'd come to SA sporadically but I was too sucked into the culture at LL to post over here a lot. What LL is now is just a depressing shell of itself. This site at least has users who contribute information and don't just blankly quote each other and speak completely in detached irony.

Every once in a while a total piece of poo poo troll will get banned and for some reason most of the userbase will call out the moderators and demand that the banning be reversed. I just requested a ban because the site sucked.
