quote:After initial rumors that they’d be on stage at the super early time of 8pm due to a club night having to start at 10pm in the venue, we all crammed in while DJ Snuff played a mixture of old and new hip-hop to get people in the mood (including a personal favourite, Stezo “To The Max”) . After what seemed like hours, suddenly the DJ changed over, and the Ultras burst onto stage, minus Kool Keith to get things warmed up further. After about 10 minutes, they were joined by the Kool one looking typically eccentric … In fact, all 3 of them were dressed in a brilliant and suitably unhinged manner. They looked fantastic ! Sadly, that was about it for the positives..

i drove 100 miles to see kool keith and my experience was similar although the sound was good, they did have instrumentals, and keith did 3 encors including the correct version of poppa large after the show we were backstage and he called me a dutch freak while hugging me tightly and to this day im not sure how to feel about that

Jerry knows what works at a hip hop show. I saw the beastie boys in 1999 and they were kinda lovely

i saw them in a way too big venue and they were insanely good at the start of the show mixmaster mike was missing & they put a backstage camera on the main screen where you saw MMM sitting in his changing room surrounded by hot girls yet he was despondent and believed he was too lovely so the crowd had to yell out his name to make him come onstage then halfway the show he did a sick solo routine and suddenly the whole stage revolved and at the back were the beastie boys and money mark on a tiny bulb lit stage, and having changed into blue tuxedos, who started playing some of the stuff from the in sound from way out. i remember thinking: "haha, nice"

Yeah...i was disappointed. Did see the fat bongo player run around the stage during one of the instrumentals though. Eric Bobo

Necros posted:like 90% of live hip hop shows are terrible and it makes.me sad So true. De la soul is my favorite studio band, but it's like they're so out of shape that the act of standing in front of a crowd rapping gets them outta breath in 5 minutes. It's seriously at least 25% crowd call backs, which is great for the forst feew minutes, not so great twenty minutes long in a 45 minute set. Best hip-hop show I ever saw was Solesides reunion tour in 2000. DJ shadow, gift of gab, blacklicious, and the whole crew. Two hour set including a tuxedo costume change. They performed latyrx https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7JYtpQDcwKw&feature=youtube_gdata and it was amazingly accurate.they had to plug their ears and squirm around to not mess each other up when rapping simultaneously. Afrerward, they were out of breath and looked like they were gonna puke. Drunk Nerds fucked around with this message at 02:34 on Jan 18, 2015 |
