Not sure where to put this, but it's awesomequote:Vince Russo did an angle with the wXw promotion out of Oberhausen, Germany. Lead heel Karsten Beck had talked about a mysterious supporter who he would reveal on the first show of the year. On the 1/17 show, there was an eight-man street fight. Their champion Big Daddy Walter was on the winning team. Russo came out and congratulate him and introduced Beck, saying he was the mysterious sponsor of Beck and they had bought into wXw (storyline). Beck then challenged Walter to a title match right there. Russo then approved the match. Walter power bombed Beck but Russo pulled ref Tassilo Jung out of the ring. Sha Samuels, who is Beck’s tag team partner, hit Walter with belt shot. Russo took off his sweater, and was wearing a ref shirt underneath, and counted the fall, so Beck won the title.

MagicCube posted:So I know there are a few people from Toronto around here. Have any of you been to Smash? Apparently a bunch of their upcoming shows are going to be about 5 minutes from my place and I'm thinking of going. I don't know too much about them, but it looks like they get some pretty good talent. Hero/Ciampa should be pretty brutal. I've been to 3 Smash shows, they were a ton of fun. Their planning can be hit-or-miss though, I've had trouble with 1) lines being wayyy too long for one event and 2) their venue being double booked or something so they had to figure out where to set up at the last minute.

I follow some local wrestlers and they promote whatever appearances they have, Toronto has a ton of small shows going on all the time with largely the same rosters. So yeah it's not the easiest solution but it works for me!

I went to a local indie years ago and it took them about an hour to set up their lovely cage too. But at least after that I got to see someone from BLK OUT go through a sheet of glass, I guess.

Yeah Smash is pretty cool, if you have a car. It's too bad Toronto is apparently too expensive for an indy show to run a subway accessible location. I would go to a lot more shows if that was the case, I want to get hammered and watch some wrestling dangit. Superkick'd runs some shows downtown, I'll have to check them out. They just promote shows as "wrestling + rock music" or whatever, and any time I've gone to shows that combine wrestling and live music they usually suck. I wish they'd just stick to the wrasslin

Has anyone been following Smash Wrestling? The last show I went to was the one where Shelley cheated and won the title, but now I see he gave the title to Gargano or something? I am not sure I really understand what's going on with this angle.

Hmm ok, thanks for the recap! I had high hopes for Shelley as champ, I wonder if they had plans for him that fell through? Or if this was the plan all along? Feels a bit convoluted to me, but maybe it's more clear if you're watching all the shows.

MagicCube posted:Yeah that recap was helpful for me as well since last show was my first. I don't know why Shelley isn't there any more. Maybe too many bookings in Japan? I'm not too sure, but I do know that that TARIK guy has nuclear heat which was funny as he was pretty much the only guy that was really booed up until the stuff at the end. Even Gulak got some cheers (myself included because he's pretty drat good). Yeah Alex Vega is a funny character. I don't know if they were planning it at this point, but last January I went to a show where he was booked as a face vs Brent Banks. Everyone cheered Banks and booed Vega and he was getting frustrated with it, it was funny. Vega had nothing going on as a face, turning him heel was a smart move. Not sure I buy him as a key main event mastermind character, but I guess you gotta book around the local guys.

So I was wearing a wrestling tshirt walking down my street today. I walked by my gym and one of the trainers pulled me aside, all excited that I'm a wrestling fan. He told me all about how he's been training at Santino's school for the past couple of years, pulled out his phone showed me a bunch of photos, even had me watch a long video of his entrance. I don't know where else to post this but it cracked me up ,the guy was just so stoked for me to see how much heel heat he got ("listen to all of them boo me!!")
