Zzulu posted:what the gently caress Yeah, the forest was featured in a classic book in which two lovers kill themselves there and it took on this weird..."romanticized" quality where it became the choice place to kill yourself. There are even published guidebooks on how to kill yourself in that forest.

Well, this dude didn't surrender until 1974 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hiroo_Onoda He wasn't exactly around when the surrender officially happened and was convinced when he later heard the news that it was lies and propaganda designed to flush him out. They ultimately had to pull a John Rambo, by tracking down his retired commanding officer to have him officially relieve him of his duty. quote:Onoda was thus properly relieved of duty, and he surrendered. He turned over his sword, his functioning Arisaka Type 99 rifle, 500 rounds of ammunition and several hand grenades, as well as the dagger his mother had given him in 1944 to kill himself with if he was captured.

Popular Thug Drink posted:i only really know about gaki no tsukai. it's a long running variety show with all kinds of stuff. I saw a bit of one of those, there was a bit where the one of the comedians found a DVD in a drawer, there was a DVD player and TV right there, so they put it in, and it's a video showing pictures of the comedian and his family, and the guy's 8 year old son reads this letter about his dad, about how he's so proud of what his dad does and even when other kids pick on him or make fun of his dad about all the silly stuff he does on TV, the kid always stands up to them because he knows what his dad does makes people happy, and he loves him. By the end everyone in the room is trying to not cry, and then the kid signs off by saying something like "I love you dad, you're about to get kicked in the rear end" and the guy just breaks down sobbing and a kickboxer runs into the room and kicks him in the rear end really hard.

(Somewhere near Gifu) Abandoned cafe -- "AMERICAN COFFEE" on other side. Burakumin housing near meat packing facility. quote:Burakumin (部落民?, "hamlet people"/"village people") is an outcast group at the bottom of the Japanese social order that has historically been the victim of severe discrimination and ostracism. They were originally members of outcast communities in the Japanese feudal era, composed of those with occupations considered impure or tainted by death (such as executioners, undertakers, workers in slaughterhouses, butchers or tanners), which have severe social stigmas of kegare (穢れ or "defilement") attached to them. Traditionally, the Burakumin lived in their own hamlets or ghettos. Unused high school.
