i play poker last time I played I took $40 and turned it into $500 and then promptly lost it a few hands later going all in when the dude caught a card on the river that completed his straight flush i was mad kinda but whatever it happens. was a good night.

poker isn't easy but if you go to the local cardhouse at the right time there's always the dipshits that play all the time but still somehow have no idea what they're doing and if you play conservatively (ie only play the best 10 hands) it's not hard at all to walk away with their money

If you don't know how to play craps, poker and how to bet on sports you aren't a man. If you degen out and lose money you can't afford to lose at any of those you also aren't a man. To learn how to play poker you read The Little Green Book and then put 100 dollars on Bovada using a prepaid credit card (if you live in the US) and try to apply what you read. (If you don't live in the US put money on Poker Stars with your normal card instead.) Poker is actually a betting game, not a card game, so you can't learn it without real money at stake. After a while you should buy and read Small Stakes No Limit Hold'em by Miller and Mehta and read that but it won't make sense until you've played a bit. Poker is the only sort of gambling you don't have to be a savant or an angle shooting thrillionaire to make money at and it's the best game anyway. If you can apply what you learned in those books really well you can probably make 15/hour playing the cheapest poker games at your nearest casino, but there will be upswings and downswings obviously. People who have a lot of experience and are genuinely good at poker make about 45/hour doing it these days (with more swings even proportionately). Savants can do better obviously. To learn to play craps you read the rules on Wizard of Odds and then play some Java craps game until the rules click. Craps is really two games in one and it's actually quite simple once you realize what's going on. It's the most fun and social way to gamble and is almost always the closest you can get to a 50/50 bet in a casino. You cannot make money at it long term but it's the coolest table game. Craps is intimidating in the casino but if you go on off hours there's almost always a table with zero people on it, just tell them that you tried to learn online and now want to learn how to play live and they'll happily walk you through it. If you want fun just bet whatever, if you want to play smart you play pass with odds and place the 6 or 8 to spice things up once in a while. Learning how to bet sports mostly means learning jargon and how different bets are codified on the displays / guides / sheets. You should have a sportsbetting guy walk you through it, fortunately many sports betters are either lonely old men or social friendly guys and they'll be happy to show you the basics. If you find a grumpy one that's because he's losing, just find another one. Making money on sportsbetting means finding bets where the payout you buy is worth more than you paid for it, so it's more like picking stocks than it is knowing who will win. The "broker" fees for buying these payouts make doing this reliably awfully difficult but there's a lot of knowledge that goes into it if you're serious about it and it can be a real skill. If you have your girlfriend along play roulette. It's the most elegantly designed gambling conceit. Unfortunately the house edge on it is usually at least five times worse than craps and it's not as social. In Europe the rules and wheel are often a little different and the house edge is about equal to craps. An ape could learn roulette, only flipping a coin is simpler. Wizard of Odds to learn. If you want to chill and have a casual gambling time Pai Gow Poker is a very good, slow paced table game. Wizard of Odds to learn. 90% of blackjack players are miserable cunts and I don't want to be anywhere near those dumb fucks. Blackjack is fast, grindy, and doing well at it is mostly impossible these days plus requires incessant tedious mental accounting. Not a fan. Don't play the machines they're real dumb and bad and usually have a disgusting house edge. If you like machines you're wrong for liking them. There are other weird table games. If you hear about one you want to try you can go to Wizard of Odds and they'll tell you if it's a real bad idea (usually the case) or if it's a decent way to have fun. Gambling is still fun even if you know all the numbers because when you win the primitive part of your brain is real happy to see this unexpected reward. Some people are hardwired to lose their rear end if they try it. Most people can safely enjoy it as a form of entertainment. There are only a few people who are so good at it that they should do that as a job instead of something more conventional.
