It was PT Anderson trying to make a funny movie but he only has a basic concept of what humor is. So the people who try to argue that scenes are deep or whatever miss the point that it's just Anderson trying to tell jokes and failing miserably.

I saw it and it was fun but a bit frustrating. I also saw it with Paul T. Anderson in the theater and got free pankaku. Which was pretty cool.

I saw the movie. Did I like it? Yes. Did I like the sex scene? Yes. Did I get a boner from it? Yes. Could I not make the boner go down before the movie ended? Yes. Did I try to cover it by holding my jacket over my groin? Yes. Did my father get aggravated about me not putting my coat on, even though it was cold? Yes. Did he pull the jacket away from my groin, exposing my erection on a public street? Yes. Did he exclaim "Hey everybody; come look at my 45 year old child's pathetic Cinema Dick"? Yes. Am I going to finally move out of his house in retaliation? I will get back to you on that one. 3.5/5 stars

My friends and I saw it in a packed theater and were the only ones laughing when funny things happened, everyone else seemed vaguely annoyed and I think were trying to watch it as if it were some serious drama, it was very strange and reminded me of when I saw Fargo and the exact same thing happened. I kinda wanna get real baked and watch it again.

I liked the book but it seemed like Paul Thomas Anderson was too afraid of making a Big Lebowski prequel so he made it kinda plodding and boring
