proof of concept posted:pretty sure quake 1 still has some diehards playing, but not many Yeah it's weird that they kinna died with Quake 3 so long ago. I guess most players these days enjoy being able to rack up kills on anyone without having to have much skill or practice in modern shooters. Back in the deathmatch days, if you were a newbie, it DID suck rear end to log in to a server and get completely owned non stop for hours while trying to learn the game. You could easily be playing for several hours without a single kill if you joined the wrong server vs regulars who knew the maps, armor/health locations, re-spawn timers and were skilled with all the weapons. Wicker Man posted:My first real online gaming experience in Quake 2 went something like this when I finally joined and loaded the server map: Oh yes, I think all of us who remember the dial up days went through that. We didn't get DSL in my area until pretty late. I vaguely remember Mplayer, from when I first started gaming when I was really young. I did use gamespy though! And of course I went to planetquake to read Lowtax articles
