born on a buy you posted:is there a good terminal for windows? what to windows cj janitor with? you don't need a terminal to manage windows. you just clicks some things and it does it all for you since that's what computers are good at. terminals are only for bad oses like linux

pram posted:id rather use something like oh-my-zsh than have a hand curated bashrc yeah, there's certainly something to be said for that. shell programming is terrible and so full of gotcha moments. e.g. in zsh (and probably other shells too) if you're in a function and want to save to local variables both the output of a command substitution and the return code of the command within the command substitution, you might try something like this: code:
if some_cmd_here exits with return code 1, you'd probably expect RETURNCODE to equal 1. but lol nope, "local" (in particular, the first one) behaves as a command which succeeds in making the variable local, so RETURNCODE will always equal zero. if you want to save the command output as a local variable, you need to declare the local variable on its own line and assign to it on another. IMO never write shell scripts except to automate the most trivial of tasks, and even then you can almost certainly find something better. or maybe I'm just terrible (mlmp)

horse mans posted:urxvt urxvt is very good. i often just use xterm though, because the fancy multiple-unicode-font stuff is pretty situational and xterm is already installed everywhere. dunno why people keep writing other terminals really, when the original still works fine and has more features than most of the replacements
