So DT is the SMG of BSS only with Jason Todd instead of Zizek.

I'm curious to know what brought about this "change of face" from DC in regards to loosening up continuity, and getting more experimental creators on the books. Are they using the bat books as a measuring bar?

They did get some really good publicity out of the Batgirl redesign and there's some good buzz around Gotham Academy. If you believe the Internet rumor mill, internally DC is literally referring to breaking out of their 'house style' to appeal to other demographics as 'Batgirling."

I've seen a lot of people complaining about DC copying Marvel with this. I have two reactions toward it. 1) No poo poo, Marvel and DC have both been copying each other for years. 2) Do you want DC to keep publishing what hasn't been working for them, or trying to expand what little has been working for them? Batgirl isn't my cup of tea but no one can deny it, Gotham Academy and even Grayson haven't been the biggest news of DC this past year in terms of new books. Of course they want to replicate what has worked for those books with their line.

The worst DC superhero is Blue Jay. He's from the Extremists' universe and was a knockoff of Wasp, only without the zapping powers. All he can do is shrink down to the size of a bird and fly. Somehow he got to be a member of the Justice League.

I'd say at one point there were more incredibly lame people in the JL than cool ones. I remember when Morrison's JLA came out (1996 or something?) and it was a big deal that the actual most famous superheroes in the world were in it again.

This is how I feel about the man I call The Puerto Rican Stan Lee. He's a big fanboy who wants to spread his love of DC through reviews and event summaries. In one video his cell phone "rings" by announcing that his son is calling, which just reinforces my projection of his life as an empty nester who's reconnected with comics and wants fellow readers to share in the love. There's not a cynical bone in his body and I enjoy his videos for that.

Qft as much as i dislike the new Batgirl and academy books, they reach an audience that can only be good for the hubby's longevity. If DC turns into a company that puts out books i ends up reading again, that's a win!

If DC turns into a company that puts out books i ends up reading again, that's a win! Like, it's not a huge moment or anything, but I recently went into a comic book shop with some friends of mine. The instant they saw us, the guy behind the counter pointed out where batgirl and academy were. We chatted a bit because I wasn't buying anything, and apparently something like nine out of ten people who come in and buy those books were girls he'd basically never seen before. He seemed pretty enthused and non-scummy, and said that if they were out of copies (he hadn't checked because he was the only one working that day, and had been busy) that he could see about ordering a few more copies of the next issues at least. They did have them though, and we decided to pick up a pair of copies of each. Still can't say I'm a big fan of single issue comics (i prefer collections) but hey, it was fun enough.
