I LIKE PETA AND THINK THAT SCIENCE IS EVIL
I listened to a bunch of rap when I was a little kid and I grew to really like songs with a lot of, or at least interesting, record scratches. As far as I've heard, the rap game these days don't have a whole lot of scratching or samples. . .just mostly people yelling 'what!' and autotuning.

Here are just a few of the songs where I like the scriggity scriggity scratches.

Compton's Most Wanted

CMW started around the same time that NWA did, but they never blew up worldwide like NWA did. CMW as a group only released 3 albums, then MC Eiht went on his own for the most part. The older CMW songs were sample and scratch heavy which are the best kinds of heavy.

Wanted - One of my favorite scratch songs, I always liked the final 6 or 7 seconds the most.

Another Victim - scratching the verse 'downest is the Eiht from the CPT' a bunch of times. . .because Eiht is downest.

Mike T's Funky Scratch - Self explanatory, really.

Slick Rick

Slick Rick's first record 'The Great Adventures of Slick Rick' has a ton of scratches. Some of the standouts:

Teacher, Teacher - I really like Rick's rhymes too. He grew up in London so he has a slight British accent, which makes lines like "When I was a lad, my style was bad so I had to use what little bit of knowledge that I had so I quote and I wrote til I was up to par, some rhymes were 'boo-hoo' some rhymes were 'Ha Ha Haaaa"

Lick the Balls - Such scratches, so wow.

Eazy-E, NWA, Ice Cube

Not a whole lot of scratching in the early stuff. I never got into the synthesizer poo poo that replaced sampling and scratching but to each his own.

Still Talkin' - I love the scratches during the 3rd verse, which is basically where they're all at. We used to giggle like bitches to this song when we were little.

A Bird in the Hand - Good stuff

Public Enemy

Public Enemy had one of the best dj's in Terminator X, too many to choose so I'll just put a few

Shut Em' Down - scratching between the lyrics is incredible.

Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos - One of my favorite songs of the 90's. I used to play Ninja Gaiden to 'It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold us Back' and this song went really well with the boss fights!

Contract on the World Love Jam - The opening to 'Fear of a Black Planet'. I rewound and listened to this song about a dozen times before I moved on to the rest of the record.

Beastie Boys

Licensed to Ill had some pretty basic scratching, mostly the same cut over and over again if you listen to it. However, Paul's Boutique and later albums made up for the weak scratches Licensed to Ill provided.

Car Thief - Maybe my favorite song on P'sB.

Year and a Day - Buried in 'B-Boy Bouillabaisse' I dig the poo poo out of this.

So What'cha Want - Obviously. . .

There are tons more but this is a decent start. Post up your favorite fresh scratches.

"The accents on that Gazeebow Unit song are bizarre, they jump between perfect Cork and English West country, would never have guessed that they're Canadian. Was Newfoundland settled by Irish and just isolated enough to have preserved the accent?"
