During the trial, the police chief asserted "[our] officers have conducted extensive research into the Slenderman mythos and determined that the children could not have been inspired by this legend, as it is very clear from all the primary and supplemental material that the Slenderman does not accept ritual sacrifice. We only accept Marble Hornets and the original Photoshop thread as canon."

Say Nothing posted:The first link when you search for Slender Man is a Wikipedia article which tells about the photoshop thread where it was created. Why would anyone believe Slendy was real? The current explanation is that Slenderman is now a "tulpa" or thoughtform. Basically so many nerds thought about him so hard that he became a real being through the power of thought. Or at least that's how they reconcile the fact that everyone knows it's a made up thing but they totally know people who saw him.

MALE SHOEGAZE posted:Why are they trying these children as adults? let's see what reddit has to say: [–]kyuubikid213 9 points 14 hours ago They stabbed another girl nearly to death. If they weren't tried as adults for practically committing murder, I'd be more worried about the state of our judicial system and law enforcement than anything. They're not adults, but they stabbed another person with the intent to kill. [–]ham_sandwich27 197 points 19 hours ago What a couple of absolute loving idiots. A quick google search gets you this: The Slender Man (also known as Slenderman) is a fictional supernatural character that originated as an Internet meme created by Something Awful forums user Eric Knudsen (a.k.a. "Victor Surge") in 2009 It's like, the FIRST line in the wikipedia article. [–]snodog00 787 points 19 hours ago* Well my unpopular opinion is that these girls need to be locked away for a very VERY long time. I get that mental instability is a factor but they almost KILLED a classmate. That is evil on any level. I would never put my life above anyone else's because of irrational fear, I would seek help. This is planned and premeditated attempted homicide. List of supplies, thought out plan, and one of them even said she should be locked up for fear of hurting someone. I'm thinking of the victim here. She did nothing wrong and was stabbed over and over again. She will most likely live with complications her entire life because two girls, on some level, thought it was a good idea to end her life. That is EVIL despite mental illness. Don't get me wrong, they should definitely get help, but the motive doesn't belittle the action in this case, at least in my opinion. I'm sorry, these girls are scary and should lose their right to be a part of society. At twelve, it should be obviously clear that if you plan murder, you need help. EDIT: One thing that occurred to me is that it's highly unlikely that BOTH if these girls are mentally unstable enough to go through with this plan on obvious fantasy and irrational fear. One? Sure, there are some unstable people out there, but BOTH? TWO girls mentally deficient enough to plan, prepare, and execute an attempted murder? That seems unlikely to me, but I'm not a specialist and could very well be wrong. Sounds off to me though. [–]InvaderDem 130 points 17 hours ago* You're right, that's terrifying. And that quote right there is enough proof for me to say they need to be thrown away for the rest of their lives. If your worry is that you'll get caught, you are clearly competent enough to know what you're doing. [–]too_kool567 34 points 17 hours ago Young sociopaths already expert at working their counselors and shrinks and saying exactly what they expect to hear. [–]akward1 38 points 17 hours ago They're lying and they're acting. Those girls are playing the interviewers and it's quite apparent by the way they answer it and watch as he writes it all down. Their body expressions and language see approval when they see them accepting the statement. They're just two sociopaths and I know they say you can't diagnose it that young, well, I say you can. I grew up with one and I can say they were ALWAYS callous, faked emotions all the time, no friends to speak of save one they could manipulate. They got lucky and found each other.

That's basically what it boils down to. Any time a kid older than maybe 6 or 7 commits a crime in the U.S. people fall all over themselves trying to get them tried as adults to show they're "tough on crime."

Wow, this is still going. Even though one of them is a psychopath they both should have been tried as minors. The fact that they believed is something so ridiculous proves the point that there is a mental deficiency.

Maybe you're trolling... but: I could believe the psychopath one made it up/used the story as a patsy, because that one showed clear premeditation and manipulation of the other one. In general though I think you're underestimating the stupidity of kids. Some local kid just got slammed with 20+ years for vehicular manslaughter because he was on the run from a burglary. Kid was on a football scholarship, had means, had no reason to be stealing poo poo. Kids is dumb, yo.

this is what happens when you let children have imagination i'm not saying 'let's bring back the workhouses', but, wouldn't we prefer that sort of thing going on back here at home where we can monitor and care for the children and properly manage their earnings rather than making foreign children do it in hellholes so they can spend it on drugs and the like
