So how do bows do with respect to ranged combat? Can they hit anyone no matter how far out?

Well, now that you've got some levels under your belt you shouldn't be too fragile.

Are spells the only way to get area attacks?

That was actually an interesting dungeon. You had to get away from a fight and dig up an item, which seems quite sophisticated.

Oh lord. Infinite numbers of rats. That seems kind of ridiculous but grinding must get awfully slow after a while.

Ah, what I've come to think of as the standard mythology mashup for these early RPGs.

I'd be wary of traps for the unwary. ...you know what I mean.

It doesn't seem like you get rewards either way, aside from the secret treasure room. I suppose the experience is its own reward?

City of the Yellow Mud Toad seems perfectly fantasy. Interesting you can power through the same wizard who hyperslept you earlier.

Oh boy, it's probably going to be full of annoying skeletons or something that don't take normal damage.
|
# ¿ May 4, 2015 19:06 |
|
Well, now that we've got the key we can get something back in the Mud Toad village, right?

I like the ship, even though it's more of a teleport point than sailing over the same texture. I say, let's go to those ruins. We did just get a potion for that, right?
|
# ¿ May 17, 2015 22:50 |
|
Well, that was some worthwhile plundering in the ruins.
|
# ¿ May 23, 2015 18:24 |

That was actually a pretty worthy trap for the unwary.

I like coming back at high level and visiting early-game areas that are supposed to be a challenge at the time, and pitched as such.

The whole place is at least a little bit redeemed by that secret passage to the undercity. Also at some point we're fighting that dragon. That's just too much foreshadowing to ignore.
|
# ¿ Jun 14, 2015 19:48 |

Wow, the dragon is sadder than anticipated.

Man, I remember the days when an IBM PS/2 was the pinnacle of computing. Right now I'd side with the infinite chorus of madness, though.

Man, they are really on top of escapees from the isle of madmen.

Well, now the comparatively lackluster opposition makes sense, if you can get here early. I imagine when Namtar went to the Mountain of Salvation he was kind enough to leave the door unlocked behind him?
|
# ¿ Sep 11, 2015 01:46 |
|
Yeah, Namtar seems like the sort of guy who'd collect a bunch of treasure and then get bored with it.

I do like that the magic school does give you a ton of magic spells in the end.

So, is it better to get a game over from a cutscene, or get clobbered with large numbers and remove all doubt?

You just randomly can't do anything for one round while someone beats on you? Wow, that's really just kind of begging for chain reloads.

They couldn't even spring for a new skybox for the final confrontation? Well, I suppose games were drastically smaller back then, both in space allotted and in dev team.

Okay, that was a quality fakeout ending. The gently caress did this idea of faerie lizardmen come from, though? I don't think we've ever seen those two words together before.
