I have no preference on the names.

As for the screenshots, while I'm no expert on this at all, what I suspect is happening is that you're either a) capturing at a resolution greater than native x1 but not an actual whole number multiple, b) capturing at a whole number multiple but the emulator/movie player is applying a scaling filter, or c) capturing at native resolution but scaling it to anything besides x2/x3 nearest neighbor.

Or the emulator sucks.

Has anybody tried the iOS port of Chrono Trigger? The FF7 thread convinced me to get it so now the question is just on what platform.

I haven't actually played the iOS/Android ports, just seen them. That said, while the font and UI took a bit of a nosedive, all the essential parts are still there. If it's the most affordable legal way to play Chrono Trigger, then go for it, it's not the worst thing in the world.

Yeah, it's just like Final Fantasy VI where there's lots of stuff that runs off of the Magic stat, including an uncopyrighted Kamahameha Wave, but there's a specific meaning for the Capital M Magic. Just assume that anything not called Magic but looks extraordinary is Dragon Ball leaking through.

The Marle problem always comes down to this. She's an excellent healer, capable of bringing someone from 0 to full very easily, and Aura Whirl is cheap and effective for a full party heal.

Unfortunately, other characters are even more cheap and effective for a full party heal and items bring someone from 0 to full very easily as well.

The PSX was also specialised to do 3D-stuff and had noticable problems with 2D-stuff like sprites.

This is why nearly every 2D game on it ran at a beautiful 60 frames per second but then when fancy 3D and particular effects showed up the system chugged to make 30. It was advertised and promoted as 3D: it sure as hell wasn't specialized to do so.

Also, this might be apocryphal, but I remember reading once that one of the reasons for the insane load times was that instead of actually loading the English ROM up they loaded the Japanese one and dynamically patched it with the English script. I have no idea if that's true, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Sounds like you would hate to be in my car most of the time. Probably half of my music is either direct video game music or bleep bloop music that might as well be.

Only half?

I always preferred Epoch. I like it.

But this time I suggest something I never went for, since I only read the books after I stopped playing Chrono Trigger:

Let the Dragon ride again on the winds of time.

It's not going to win at all, but I can't deny a reference to the Dragon Reborn when voting.

I have no preference on the team, but...

I'm noticing a distinct lack of Wings That Cross Time in your music links. Care to explain to the class, Leave?

FF4A's extended content had a purpose and the cave of trials wasn't actually that bad- it didn't look terrible in general, the mobs were kinda boring but more interesting than CT's bonus content enemies, and it got your old crew members geared/leveled for the moon.

The Lunar Trials had character specific themes/trials and some were really annoying but still, reasonably imaginative.

FF6A had the Dragon's Nest which was a pretty poo poo multi-party dungeon but it still felt less :effort: than this poo poo.

Regalingualius posted:

And FF5A included four new jobs (though two of them were rear end, and you got one of the others only after you cleared out the bonus dungeon).

It's worth noting that as bad as the FF Advance bonus content is, it does reasonably provide more gameplay above the base game. So, in FFIV, you get a giant semi-randomized playground of dungeon crawling where you can take in a custom party, capstoned with character specific mini stories. In effect, you're getting more of the basic gameplay of FFIV, such as it is. In FFV, you get long endurance slogs of dungeons and bosses forcing you to push FFV's options to the limit. Finally, FFVI gives you a three party dungeon that lets you go all out with your most powerful stuff and actually needs it at times (unlike base FFVI where a single character with no espers can win with little trouble).

There's nothing, to my knowledge (since I've only read about it instead of slowly cutting myself), in the CT bonus content that actually expands the CT gameplay beyond "spam your most powerful move over and over". There's no greater challenge that encourages variety, nothing that forces you to find the most powerful options at your disposal, and nothing that uses CT's unique gimmicks (in fact, they're ignored, really).
