Voluntary cyborg poo poo won't become popular unless surgery in the US becomes cheap enough you can afford to have it done every year. Even then tech companies can say goodbye to releasing new gadgets every six months. Even if it's just a socket you plug different modules into you'll still have to get that poo poo updated every once in a while.

VR is going to be a nice bubble for like 2-3 years until nerds and devs alike realize there really isn't some genius ground to break in VR gaming-- like there isn't going to be anything more immediately profitable and appealing to mainstream audiences like CoD or Mario, it's just a nice gimmick to show off and *maybe* add a bit of flavor to your experience. It will however be kept alive as a niche industry as the next level of pornography and become synonymous with fleshlights and dildos as something you have but don't keep displayed in the open unless you're socially shameless. Then one day someone will finally get close to holodeck technology and the real fun will begin.
