Hark rushes at the bodyguard, intending to disable the man as quickly as possible and mop this up fast. Clearly they're making bodyguards of something stronger than they used to...

Chook flees from the sight of the enraged Gnoll and tries to get as far away as possible. His partner takes a slightly more aggressive view on things and deploys some explosives to try to delay our heroes. The blast knocks down Gnasc, but Sofia is left standing just long enough for her to be mesmerized by one of the Cultists.

That one's bodyguard is debilitated by Hark's staffblows, so she instead stands her ground and unleashes a mighty swing of her axe to protect her ward.

Gnasc

What would Gnasc do without Bear Chaser? The goblin always knew the best place to strike, somehow. It was a bit unnerving for the gnoll. But not like he would actually tell his pack that, lest they think him weak.

When Vorrin explosive does it jobs the gnoll is knocked down, he certainly wasn't expecting a trick like that. He grunts at the traitor Ranger as he slowly gets up, feeling the sting of concussion. "Very clever, but still won't save you!!"

Instead of charging like crazy the gnoll goes around some trees towards Vorrin, before nearly cleaving the traitor in two, as he goes down bleeding heavily from the executioner's axe.

Shaking his head against the pain, Hark moves in. "Where is he? Here?" He jabs his staff into what looks like empty space and is satisfied to hear a groan of pain. Almost immediately, the staff strike is followed up by a horny-knuckled fist aimed at where the man's face should be.

Move: To L5.

Standard: Crane's Wings on brainbroker, vs. Fort. Crane's Wings: 1d20+2 15

Crane's Wings damage: 1d10+4 14

Free: Iron Soul Flurry of Blows for 5 damage. I assume this is okay? The Flurry of Blows power doesn't specify that I have to be able to see the target.

Result: Brainbroker takes 19 damage and cannot shift EONT.

He said something about the third man heading to "the lake tower."

The Cultist's concentration is broken by Hark's strikes, and the man fades into view, his nose broken.

He seems to prepare to attack again, but as he brings his hands together to unleash another wave of psychic energy, he stops. Falters. Something has gone wrong. His pupils dilate, he lets out a blood-curdling scream, falls to his knees, and then his neck snaps at an unnatural angle.

He ends up in a heap at your feet, the eyes and face a mask of catatonia.

What do you do next?

Gnasc

The gnoll is unsure what to make of what he just saw... the cultist just, snapped his own neck? Gnasc was in too much pain to notice the details of what happened.

Even with the cultist remaining still, Gnasc is too suspicious to move closer to it, waiting some good seconds before stepping forward and hitting it with his axe one more time, just to be sure. He glances at his friends, some pain still in his head. "Ugh...I...I need to go to the Rangers to tell about the traitors." he pauses, glancing at the bodies. "Should we bring the bodies with us, to make it more believable?"

Can I spend healing surges?

No posts here in a while. If I don't hear anything back in ~24 hours, we'll move towards Gnasc's proposal of completing the trek back to town and approaching the Rangers with your findings

"Just some punk who'd picked up a few tricks." Hark nudges the brainbroker with the toe of his boot, and then looks up. "There were three Rangers here, and one of 'em left before we got into this fight. I heard the one with the bow saying something about him going to a 'lake tower.'" That mean anything to any of you?"

Hark spends two more healing surges of his own, taking him to 31/33 with 7 surges left.

Gnasc

The gnoll frowns "A lake tower? Hnmm..." Gnasc thinks back to some random chat he heard back in the lodge. "I think I know what he was talking about. It's not far from here but...something spooked at least two ranger night patrols those last months. They reported unnatural lights and strange whispers coming from that abandoned place. Daria thought it was just nonsense, excuses to skip on duty. But now...I don't know..." the hairs in the gnoll's rise up a little.

The Lake Tower is not far from here, certainly the group could go there in pursuit of the third Ranger quickly enough.

First, someone needs to pick up on the Ranger's trail.

Success

You pick up on the scent, and start leading the rest along the Ranger's trail. You smell fear, hurriedness, carelessness. The trail becomes easier to track until Bear Chaser and even Hark can follow it quite easily.

Now speed is of the essence. Someone needs to step up and get the group to close the distance.
