I think I hosed up by including too-high graded wrestlers in the opening matches I'm gonna give it another shot.

Nice OK I figured it out and went from 1-4 against NQQ to 4-1.

Basically you want the Grade of your cards to match the match order. So Grade 1 guys in the opener, Grade 2 guys in the second match, etc. If you use a higher grade I think it handicaps those cards, though I suppose that could still be effective if you do it in order to complete a stable or tag team.

There are also cooperation ratings so wise to use guys with high cooperation in tag and six-man matches. You also get bonuses for matching up stables/tag teams but those groupings have to be represented on the back of the card. Matching up YTR and Iizuka and using both of their finishers made it quite representative of an actual match of theirs, haha; YTR hit the lowblow and then Iizuka followed up with the metal fingers for the KO win.

I also picked the few cards I have registered duplicates of because I think that can increase their power up to x5.

The Tenzan and Kojima team got a bonus for having the Age of Obstinacy or something lol

Observer news:

quote:

The Invasion Attack show on 4/5 has sold out Sumo Hall in advance, making it the fastest non-G-1 or non-special show to sell out the arena in more than a decade. That speaks volumes because none of the big three (Hiroshi Tanahashi, Kazuchika Okada or Shinsuke Nakamura) were in the main event, which is A.J. Styles vs. Kota Ibushi for the IWGP title. And it’s not all that loaded of a show. The show airs live on Saturday night/Sunday morning at 3 a.m. Eastern and midnight Pacific.

quote:

Jim Ross was talking to New Japan officials in San Jose this past week and made a suggestion, which he talked about at his show, that New Japan broker a deal with WWE to send Kazuchika Okada to NXT. Ross said that with his size, look and ability, he’d make the main roster quickly and be a U.S. superstar and then could return to Japan having been a WWE success, and he said he could be another Antonio Inoki. Nobody is going to be another Inoki. It is true that being a WWE success will help him be more of a star to the Japanese people, but there’s no lock that will happen, plus you have the issue that if WWE gets a talent on loan for a certain amount of time, how much are they really going to invest in it? Okada as a middle of the pack guy in that mid-card WWE purgatory, then going back to Japan and having to be the anchor of the company could go either way as far as his ability to lead. It usually doesn’t hurt Japanese guys to go overseas and not be used on top, but those are young guys, not one of the company’s big three established stars. Plus, New Japan needs Okada right now more and more, because he’s already one of the big three and they are trying to grow their business now. He’d get over to the NXT audience, probably huge, but the main roster is a tough one to navigate.

gently caress off JR. Working great for KENTA, isn't it? I also wouldn't be remotely shocked if the WWE intentionally sabotaged Okada under this arrangement since why would they want to return a guy to the #2 promotion as a star?

New Japan Pro Wrestling was officially renewed for a second season on AXS, with the official announcement expected later this week.
....
The second season is based largely around coverage of the 2014 G-1 Climax tournament, which may have been the single greatest tournament of its kind in pro wrestling history.

Edit:

The actual money for the New Japan Wrestle Kingdom show is due this coming week so Jarrett will actually know for the first time the real numbers on how the show does, or close to it. Everyone in business estimates based on various early numbers, but the actual cable numbers which make up the bulk of PPV, come in on a several month delay. Even after four months, limited revenue and numbers will trickle in.

Early indications have been good, with the insider talk being in the 14,000 to 15,000 buy range. Anything over 10,000 was considered a success with no TV in the market and pure Internet advertising. This had the handicaps of the bad time slot, many systems (including almost all cable systems) not airing it live to run the UFC replay instead, and satellite systems not running the replay in the prescribed slot.

That number beat every ROH show on PPV, which has weekly television and an American presence, as well as most TNA shows over the past two years, which had Spike and far bigger names to American fans. Win, lose or draw, this is the first successful pro wrestling PPV based on Internet marketing, but it’s also the current ceiling because they did as good a job of promoting it through viral means, had the strongest non-WWE show in the world and had Jim Ross as announcer.

That's pretty impressive

someone tell jr to stop fanbooking stuff in a way to try to get in the graces of both njpw and vince.

plus what's the most successful excursion of the 00's? nakamura to cmll or tozawa to pwg/dgusa? there hasn't been one that completely redefined a wrestler's career since then (i don't count naito going all naitoooooooo because that was so after no limit broke up). even with tozawa it felt like it was more proving to cima/dg booking office that he can get over and nakamura got the gimmick refresh.

JR has actually responded to me on Twitter a couple times, you just have to be polite about your opinion and not the douchiest smark ever.

Okada's taller than a lot of other guys they could have interest in, but any Japanese guy will still get lost in the shuffle unless he speaks perfect English, and even then probably has an IC title ceiling at best.

Gotta say Tozawa, just for coming back from that weight gain burial they did of him in '07-08. That and he really did suck early on, whereas Nakamura was always at least quite good in-ring but a black hole of personality.

the only thing I'd call remotely successful about okada's excursion was him rooming with kushida and shelley and playing a lot of earthbound. tozawa and nakamura got levels of confidence/character with their excursion, okada got shat upon by a racist booker that already ran a more successful company to the ground.

I think the experience was incredibly valuable as if nothing else it gave him first hand knowledge of the dangers of going to the US only to be misused by racist bookers though.

There's also way too many people within WWE ready for that up-and-coming mid-card spot. Look at how many guys were in the IC ladder match, and could also have been in that position. And then the NXT guys coming up and coming soon too. It's not just that WWE would mis-use him, it's a very crowded house for everyone. Maybe he could come up in a year or two but by that point, how much bigger could New Japan be within Japan? Or internationally for that matter?

Guess I need to get caught up, WWE has been taking my time as of late instead but there's a lot to catch up on. Also still need to get to a NJPW Korakuen show too. Sad I missed the one last night :/

EDIT: Never drat mind I didn't know a "booster box" only had 30 cards in it even though it costs $50 or whatever, although I guess it would only be like $30 from Amazon.jp. Still, $1 per card?

$26 shipped for a box of 10 packs, shipment took about 11 days on the cheapest unregistered option.

So like $2.65 per pack which is like almost a buck cheaper per pack than yottsume had 'em before shipping.

The drawback is you get a bunch of anime figures of questionable age in your browser history from going to that site and they send you a thank you card with an anime girl of questionable age on it

their site is http://slist.amiami.com/top/search/list?s_keywords=king+of+pro+wrestling&submit=Search&pagemax=40. Don't think I've seen better pricing, so, less than $1 per card shipped but no not real cheap. the cards are nice though, I saw some WWE cards the other day and they look and feel like utter rear end comparatively

I think I've seen packs in stores (like denki-yas and such) going for about 300 yen/pack with three or four cards, so I think that's about as cheap as it gets. I need to head up to wrestling town soon (today?) to pick up goods a goon ordered so I'll check what the prices are here. I don't think its much cheaper though.

So, there are NJPW shows that happen with production and commentary that aren't put on NJPW World? I'm watching Liger vs Tiger Mark for the NWA Jr. Title right now thanks to woooTube and I'm confused why this Road To show wasn't on NJPW World if it was multi camera with commentary.

And does anyone know what the other half of Liger's hybrid costume in this match is?

AJ vs Okada for IWGP Heavyweight Title
Nakamura vs Goto for IWGP IC
Omega vs Shelley for IWGP JR
Ishii vs Makabe rematch for NEVER
Saku vs Shibata

I have no clue who's winning between Styles and Okada which is coo;. I could easily see Okada regaining the belt exactly one year after he lost it. They're also obviously very high on Styles though. He just regained the belt in February and they're heading into four North American shows. Gonna be interesting.

Watching the G-1 announcement during Invasion Attack, it's going to be a beast of a tour. If I'm counting right, it's 19 shows across 28 nights, including 3 shows in 4 nights at Korakuen and 3 shows in 3 straight nights at Sumo Hall to end the tour. Starts 7/20 and ends 8/16.

Seven shows in Tokyo plus at least one in Yokohama. Maybe one more close by too. Hard work, but that's almost half the shows within a 90 minute train ride. That'll help. And bah gawd I gotta get to one or two of those here.

Alright, looking at my finances now that part of the year is up for me, and it looks like Wrestle Kingdom 10 will probably be doable for me.

When do tickets for WK get released, so I know waaaay in advance? And where gets the good seat tickets? Looks like it will be a £500 flight, and then probs another couple hundred on accommodation if I were going from the 28th till the 8th.

They won't be for sale for a while (around the fall), but the good news is they should have a foreign ticket sales website up by then. I'm also incredibly envious you can get a flight for £500($746), I might do it myself for that. It would basically be a $1700 flight for me :smith:

Sweet, I was worried about making a ticket order on a foreign language website. Knowing me, I'd gently caress it up pretty badly. Also, $1700 return is hefty, my flight cost is that with the return counted in. Looking at ticket prices now, it might even be cheaper than that if I am tactical about booking, because I am finding I could get £400 tickets if I were to go next month, which is making me wonder if it might be cheaper to book later rather than sooner.

e; for example, you might find it is waaaaay cheaper to not look through your usual resources to find a flight, I am looking at Japan Travel Centre, which is a UK thing specialised in finding cheap flights to Japan. Finding an ethnic based travel resource might be able to save you a chunk of money on costs, which might make it suddenly doable.
