I am currently obsessed by this audio archive. Basically, it's a huge collection of advertisements, independent releases, instructional tapes, religious rants, field recordings and awful cover versions from the 50's to the 80's. It's what a lot of vinyl and cassette space was taken up with in those days... non professional recordings from the genius to the insane. Did you ever want to hear Brian Wilson's father trying to sing a KFC jingle? It's right here. How about the world's worst booking agent pitch? Maybe an entire musical to promote Xerox? Or even an insane radio preacher speaking in tongues then buying a coke. It's all here, a huge wealth of the obscure and failed, things you would find in a pawn shop on an unmarked cassette. Start here http://www.wfmu.org/365/2003-01.shtml and work your way through the months.... it's a fascinating time capsule of the way people used to think and speak and sing. Is anyone else familiar with this site? I'd really like to know if there's any similar archives of historical castoffs like this.
