Sooooooooooo since Top Gear is in detention I thought we could all use some more good car show. The Youtube thread is kind of a clusterfuck of amateur videos of people hurting themselves and nice-to-watch content from Drive, Smoking Tire, old Top Gear shows, etc. Why don't we split it up? If you want to see cool homemade stuff, check the Youtube thread. If you want to see sweet Petrolicious, Drive, Smoking Tire, Everyday Driver, Top Gear/Final Gear, maybe even Wheel Dealers or whatever - post it here. Basically, if the video was made for an audience, put it here. If something happened and there happened to be a Youtube video, put it there. Got it? I'll start with this sweet video tour of the Morgan factory by Drive: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6wobm3756A

We could maybe make a pile of links for full entertaining series. Tuerck'd is a really awesome drift/thrash thing that follows professional drifter Ryan Tuerck around. Even if you're not big on drifting, it's entertaining to watch. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL5qSo-slN5sP-iR4AFhGDPcm4cJT9K1Lc one of my favorites is when he's answering questions when the truck he's in rolls https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJhtDfTNOZg Gearz is Stacey David who you might know from the show trucks on TNN back in the old days. he does neat stuff like 302 v8 miatas and 520 ford hemi cougars https://www.youtube.com/user/StaceyDavidsGearZ The new stuff is just previews for the tv airings, but the old stuff is there, and the new stuff is supposed to be added eventually. AvE is a canadian guy who makes stuff using basic, bodged, and home-made tools. also does in-depth tool reviews down to tearing em apart and testing plastic melting points. so much to learn. https://www.youtube.com/user/arduinoversusevil It's not specifically auto related, but fab and all that i think fits under our umbrella. Warning: very canadian. very, very canadian.

Mighty Car Mods; unless you've been hiding under a rock, you've probably encountered the irreverent Australian kings of car modification. Watching them evolve from a couple of chancers in a suburban garage to a polished, professional show (hosted by a couple of chancers in a suburban garage) is a thing of beauty: https://www.youtube.com/user/mightycarmods Harry's Garage; like a well-heeled James May, ex EVO captain Harry Metcalfe talks you through his impressive collection of iconic cars: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCIB5XXHNAWWzTOw6guIMYCg Tax The Rich; like Harry's Garage downed a half bottle of Grey Goose and yelled "watch this bro!", supercar owners who can afford to do so thrash the tits off cars that are worth more than your house: https://www.youtube.com/user/TaxTheRich100

One of them ended in 2011, but the massive backlog of Best Motoring and Hot Version videos are a definite must watch. It is more or less Gran Turismo in video form, where professional race car drivers fling sports cars and tuner cars around Tsukuba and other race tracks as fast as possible. I sort of fell back into it when I realized that I stopped really liking Top Gear after season 15 or so. GT Channel and HotVersionGT have a whole bunch of subtitled/dubbed videos, and there's a lot of untranslated stuff elsewhere that has some fairly good racing in it. It's not perfect, particularly whenever someone on staff decides the show needs more awkward footage of women in skimpy outfits, but it is more or less what I consider the ideal for fast car video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zY2LFJ_8hZw Best Motoring focused on unmodified sports cars, like in this in depth look at the then new E60 M5, followed by a race against the E46 M3, Lamborghini Gallardo, and Z-tune GT-R. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ONW_yTZVIaE Hot Version looked more at the world of tuning, like in one of the many "Touge Showdown" segments here. There's usually a pretty good variety of cars in these, usually followed by some very close races. Other highlights: A comparison test of Lancer Evolution and Impreza WRX models reaching all the way to the Evo VII/GDB. A race between basically every Miata, also the Elise and Integra are there A whole bunch of K-swapped cars The Mazda CX-7 vs Lexus RX450h vs Porsche Cayenne turbo race you never knew you needed A tuned inline-six comparo revolving around the outgoing Skyline and Supra, followed by a somewhat anticlimactic race involving the also outgoing Silvia and RX-7 Super Battle 92-93, click on this to see wheel to wheel racing between an F40, a Yellowbird, and an assortment of Japan's finest rotary_festival_porn.flv The ZR1 and 458 come out to play at Tsukuba Keiichi Tsuchiya competes in an all AE86 racing event, followed by a lot of Nissan action The last Best Motoring race at Fuji Speedway razorscooter fucked around with this message at 21:34 on Mar 24, 2015 |

Keith Fenner does a regular, extremely detailed series on complex operations for his machine shop. A lot of it is maritime engineering but he uses a lot of relevant technique Gear cutting and repair https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qEGAs8OMuJc Using TIG to build up entirely new structures and repair castings on a cylinder head https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hi-tKC4pQB4 mrpete222 aka tubalcain ex machine shop teacher. I've been subscribed to Redline Reviews for quite a while. It's just some guy driving and reviewing cars but he makes a point to talk about interiors and styling and ride and handling. He's not doing supercar shootouts and I think his production staff consists of only him, but if you're car shopping and he's made a video of a particular car you're interested in, it's a good resource. He's also just about to hit 100k subscribers so he does have a bit if a following. His review of the Acura TLX with the 4cylinder and new Honda DCT is a nice example simply because there aren't a lot of videos talking about it on YouTube and he does usually get on the go-pedal of any car he drives. https://youtu.be/C5EqHTKpabs Mental Hospitality fucked around with this message at 03:27 on Apr 2, 2015 |
