Donnie Darko, I think. Despite that, I barely remember that movie, which is probably for the best.

I remember going to Blockbuster at some point, thinking cool, I can rent DVDs now! So I rented Dancer in the Dark and Requiem for a Dream. It was the most depressing weekend ever.

The VHS of Austin Powers had alternate endings and deleted scenes at the end. It was my first exposure to the idea of special features, and it blew my mind.

It's jarring when I end up watching a really old DVD where the only "special feature" is previews for other movies.

are the same thing!

I remember when DVDs were just starting to be a thing I saw a report on the news on this amazing new technology that would allow you to jump to whatever scene you wanted without having to rewind and change language and subtitles at will. I think they also said something about being able to switch to alternative angles of scenes but I've never actually seen that.

I'm kind of surprised that nobody mentioned WEB LINKS that you COULD FOLLOW ON THE INTERNET IF YOU WATCHED IT ON YOUR COMPUTER.

Also, Director/Actor Commentary. Whenever I'm having a complete poo poo day and I feel like some tard abuse, I'll pick a random episode where they have both Andy Dick and Joe Rogan doing commentary.

I did a news report about Kevin Costner visiting our base in Iceland in like 98 and I wince at the bit of copy I wrote about people bringing "DVD-ROM recordings" of his movies to be autographed.

The store I got my first DVD player from had a promotion going where if you bought a player you could pick from one of several 2-packs of movies for free. I ended up with an Apex DVD player (owned because you could change the region with some secret remote inputs), Blade Runner, and Evil Dead 2.

Blade Runner is also the first and only movie I ever bought on Blu-ray.

That's awesome. :haw:

When I worked at Blockbuster in '03, our oldest DVDs had "Movie Title (DIGI VERSATILE DISC)" printed on the insert.

I think '03 was also when we had a few tapes left in stock. Mostly children's movies. An old woman came in and yelled at me because we didn't have some new release on VHS. Sorry, lady...

FWIW, Philips are always easy to set region free, and they'll transcode NTSC/PAL. Hope that helps when you find your DVD player is dead in the next decade.

This looks a lot like suffering.
When the players were first coming out the stores all had deals where if you bought one you could get 5 movies

Parents picked:
-Man in the Iron Mask
-City of Angels
-US Marshals
-Out of Sight
-Das Boot

My first rental:
-Air Force One

My first purchase:
-Fight Club (Special Edition "Package" box before they were discontinued, though I think they maybe brought it back)
