A kobold walks into a bar, and he says "Excuse me, can you please stop hiring adventurers to come murder my people," so some adventurers murder him.

and that's kobold's name was Trayvon.

Wait, am I in the wrong D&D again?

Serious post, like plut said, I know no one here would do that, BUT DON'T DO THAT, my sister was a social worker that had to clear up a mess that started as a brawl on the dad's boardgame night.

Goon buys 100 acres of Hawaiian jungle and ropes his wife and other goons to travel across oceans to labor for free to build his dream yoga hut/cult compound. Despondency, horrible sanitation, and biblical plagues ensue.

Yes, there's groverhaus which has already been discussed to death and also the goon who was a camp counselor and spent $10,000+ clearcutting a old growth carolina forest to build a zipline that, when goons did the math, would end with a child traveling over 700ft at 45+mph at 3gs of force where they would be stopped by a telephone pole.

Hey, how do you let bad players and GMs down softly?

I'm not talking catpissers, I'm talking about dudes who legit try and want to do well but are not very bright. After years and years of explanations by multiple people on how best to handle things they still can't hold a campaign together. No gaming is better than bad gaming but bad gaming being done by people who really really want to be doing good gaming is kind of painful to kick to the curb, especially after years of instruction and tips.

How do I let them down softly and suggest we keep the group together but play board games instead? (They are great to be around and I don't want to burn this friend group, I just don't want to play elfgames with them.)

Hey, it hasn't happened to you yet so i think I got pretty good odds.

But yeah, "fun" is being had in the "well, I got nothing better to do so time to show up, smile, and slowly die inside" while several of us exchange glances that maybe we can hurry this round up so we can break up for pizza. Its fun the way old people in a catholic marriage is 'fun'. So yeah, I'm going to bow out. Thanks all.

gradenko_2000 posted:

Not that I'm saying bowing out is a bad idea, but if you don't mind, could you elaborate more on what's being run badly about these games?

Big ideas that don't pan out. GM forgetting what he's doing mid sentence (When I say "not very bright" I mean "mild learning disabilities"+mental health issues which is another reason I don't want to be cruel) and going on a random tangent. High concepts that devolve into dungeon crawls using a slightly different map than we used last time, despite us putting together a collection of different maps and prestatted enemies to throw into any of them. The elf part of the elfgaming is hard, so I think we'd just do better with board games. Plus none of us like talking in first person and use third person to talk about what the PCs are doing (Basically there's no IC, just OOC descriptions of what we're about to do) so its just a slightly dressed up version of "Pawn to c2"

Also, this is uncharitable and mean of me but one of the players has a lazy eye and it just drives me NUTS.

Just say, "Hey, I'm not having fun any longer, so I'm just going to sit this out." Buy some beer and pizza beforehand to smooth out any hurt feelings if they are a little sensitive. For maximum gentle touch, tell your GM first and talk it out like adults. This way your GM won't miss you when you're gone. Hell, you might even convince them to play one of your board games! Or not.

Sounds good. We'll see how it goes.

I want to play a PbP but all the ones that pop up in the recruitment thread are for systems I own and barely know or have no idea how to play and I feel like I would drag the game down not knowing what I'm doing ):

Find the IRC channel the GM/players lurk on, there's usually one, asking "hey, I'm new, not too familiar with the game but interested." If there isn't just mention that in the OOC/Recruit thread. And any group worth playing with is going to help you out. As anxious as you may be about joining a new group the (smart) groups are also worried about becoming one of those inbred groups full of miserable regulars. Fresh blood is vital.
