i would say the most damning thing about esports is that their fans get desperate for some sense of legitimacy. i do get into esports sometimes(not watching any currently) but i don't see why i should care if the public at large is interested, it's not like there's a lack of content or players.

I understand the "lol nerds" response, but if that's your angle you'd better be in a varsity letter jacket posting on your way to football practice. Fat nerds making GBS threads on other fat nerds for being good at something is a bad look.

Playing smash with no items is like playing dayz on a pve server. What's the point? Without the items (like without the pvp) it's a bad game.

If I can't break a down to its bare repetitive min max mechanics and play the only correct way that puts me at an advantage compared to any other option to the point where the game becomes simple muscle memory its not competitive.

This is a big hurdle to the esports crowd. Too many games have rules outside the game parameters like "you can't snipe on the bridge" that expose that the games weren't meant to be serious competitions. Mobas don't do that afaik but mobas don't need help being boring.

eSports are boring because the career-ending injuries are carpel tunnel and deep vein thrombosis as opposed to broken necks and general vegetablism.

I believe you meant to type "gamers"

Counter strike pro gaming would be a hell of a lot more interesting if they played random map rotations instead of only Dust 2 so that way teams would have to adapt to the maps on the fly and the matches had more depth than whackamole with A,B, and mid runs.

it's exciting because you're a useless old man by the time you're 26 instead of 30 or 40

in reality though it's not reflexes going down so much as burnout. Because you can't overtrain for eSports, to be the best you p much have to train 16 hours a day every day so eventually even if you are one of the like 20 guys on earth making mad bank you realize it's not worth it

I don't think anyone's been taken out due to injuries, have they? I figure the games cycle out of popularity before people become 25 and they get replaced by an eager eyed Korean child

This is probably one of the biggest blocks to esports getting any real traction. Once game technology matures and stops reinventing every five years we may see a serious mainstream following develop.

That and nobody cares about professional video games. I'd watch the call of duty tournaments if they allowed those fake military spergs to fight it out when they get killed in a way they think is bullshit.

People might care if it was a constant thing they did as kids and adults and understood the rules, like actual established sports. Not saying it would be the next soccer but it could certainly get as popular as bowling or golf.

do these electronic sports team have training sessions? what do they train? map layouts? do the tournaments have special unseen maps just for the tournament? because that would actually show legitimate skills and tactics instead of hiding behind a door on a map they've been playing since 1998

That's why there is a Korean or Puerto Rican guy on the mic losing his poo poo during the game. Golf also needs this.

They loving better.

People bitched and bitched about call of duty not having dedicated servers and then they go and add them for black ops and people immediately came up with retarded servers where you have to crouch all the time and they banned grenade launchers. They properly learned that the playerbase is retarded and now all of them have P2P servers and forces gamers to play the game the way it was meant to be played.

in Korea they live in shared housing provided by their teams where they train for most of the day. oh also most of them are paid room and board plus a stipend less than korean minimum wage. it's probably a violation of child labor laws. it also produces way better eSports competition than decadent westerners who think it's just some loving game they can"practice" for only 6 hours a day without any structure. Do they think athletes just run a few scrimmages every day and that's enough to stay in peak conditions? Fuckin chobos
