Pretty dreamy but nothing's gonna happen outside of fanfics since it's all guys. Well, mostly.

Arslan is now part of Funimations simuldub thing. Unfortunately I a) can't watch Funi's stuff and b) have no interest in dub's, so someone else will have to see if it's any good.

I got sick of waiting for new episodes to show up on Hulu and Funimation's own channel, does this mean they aren't doing subs same day as or? Was just checking through back channels.

Well Hulu gets episodes a week late, but other than that you shouldn't have any issues. Not sure what Funimation's "channel" is though, is that just their Hulu page?

How many episodes is Arslan supposed to be? 26? 52? TBA?

25, according to anilist. It's not like there's a lack of material to adapt, so if it does well we might see more seasons down the line.

I think it's more just that they need all these episodes to like, establish the other main characters strongly. First we had an ep all about Daryun being a massive badass, then we get...ah, blonde guy and his aide in the spotlight, then singer thief casanova dude shows off, next archer lady will probably be the focus, and once everyone's united and has a clear goal in mind Arslan will probably shine through.

I've never read of the books before but I do kind of assume that he's very much serving a more emotional role - of the core cast he's the one who can really gather people and serve as...well, a leader and king, even if he's not necessarily the strongest or the smartest. That's pretty evidently a theme, Andragoras was an awful king because he presumed he was the best and the mightiest, but that's not his job, you need humility to lead, and fair judgment. I assume a lot of his narrative will be about learning these things.

I actually really like the choice to seperate Arslan from all the plot action, I'm looking forward to when he learns exactly how everything in Ecbatana has gone to poo poo. Watching the moe-est prince have an emotional breakdown will be interesting.

Takehito Koyasu out of nowhere.

I can definitely see Arakawa's influence on this in more than just the character designs, Gieve's sparkles literally falling out of the sky as Farangis puts him in his place followed by mass villager slaughter.

On the other hand the Elam dressed at a girl bit was completely played for laughs in the OVA version.

Gieve trying to hide his loot's pretty good. He and Farangis are weird and sort of out of place in the crew though.

I already knew that part of the story from reading what's been translated online. What I really want to know is the "truth" behind Arslan's parentage. Based on what's already been shown in the anime (hence no spoiler here), my best guess is that either one or possibly both the King and Queen are not his true parents.

What's been translated that I've read so far doesn't add to any solution to this mystery. Anyone know? I'd love to know what the deal is.

It's likely that the Queen is his mother since he came out of her, but (and I'm spoilering in case I'm accidentally right) Hermes is actually the King's son and Arslan is the nephew

So Kharlan was a loyalist to the pre-Andragoras regime. Welp, them's circumstances.

Ytlaya

So I'm reading the manga and I'm at the part where (manga spoilers of course*) Arslan tries to free Hodin's slaves and they are angry with him, followed by Narsus talking about them wishing for shackles over freedom due to the broken social system. It's going to own if this actually goes into the fact that there is little difference between de jure slavery and wage slavery.

*Though maybe the anime is this far? I haven't been watching the anime so I don't know.

cruxlunacy

That's the latest published chapter, there's still a little to go. It's weird that this is getting 25 episodes when there's only material for about 12. Are they planning on adapting directly from the novels and filling in the manga later? The anime is basically all the manga panels animated with an adjustment here or there.

Yeah, they're going to be following the books once they run out of manga, Arakawa has said she's designed characters for the anime that haven't appeared in the manga yet.

Some of the comedic stuff at the start of this episode felt a bit tone deaf, though I guess that's Arakawa's 'thing', but Narsus getting caremad about Mask calling him :mediocre: was great.
