lol okay because it's super explicit and everybody agrees on the meaning. beyond basic levels of federal gun control that will basically prevent idiocy as much as is reasonably possible, there's no reason to be involved with it precisely because it is in the constitution and the federal government should probably leave interpretation alone and let the states decide how they want to proceed with it.

I think we need to accept that immigration to this nation is a foregone conclusion. We're the best country on earth, everybody wants to live here. Instead of having people enter illegally and remain here tax free, we should make it easier to book them into the system. Then we have a larger tax base, and we have additional consumer spending driving our economy. We have plenty of room, we just need to integrate immigrants sensibly.

We should take advantage of the fact that everyone wants to come live the American Dream rather than trying to cling to isolationism in 2015.

mdm posted:

Hey that's my stance on it, I can't pretend like I can tell Congress what laws to pass. The Judiciary is similarly free to make their decisions free from my influence. I'm not trying to be a dictator. I can tell you that the executive branch will devote its resources sensibly according to my views on the issue.

I can't give my opinion? I didn't say I was going to force Congress to pass any laws or tell the Judiciary what to do. I can tell federal law enforcement to pursue illegal arms trafficking over personal use and possession, though.

Hector Beerlioz posted:

I think for the most part tribes have been thoroughly exploited by the powers that be. Tribal lands are being destroyed by coal mining. Casinos designed to give incomes to native families are owned by white men. The federal government needs to acknowledge the natives as one of two groups of people who didn't come to America seeking a better way of life. We need to examine ongoing exploitation of tribal lands as part of a larger effort to root out corruption across all levels of the federal government and major corporations that do whatever they want with no accountability.

I don't have any kind of problem with the Jewish people. A lot of my family is Jewish.

I think Bibi has made it pretty clear he doesn't need the United States, and given that Congress is cutting social programs I think it's only fair that we cut Israel's blank check. Israel wants to stand as an independent country and we should let them.
