I was talking to my best friend earlier about how I've seen Laurie in Blackadder and Jeeves and Wooster and yet I still call him House on instinct. My brain loves to typecast actors, I guess.

I paused it while they were talking and turned to my girlfriend and asked don't they all look like him or am I crazy? They all had that same sort of hair style and looked tall. She said maybe and we kept watching and then the revelation came and it was no less great.

Hey all, finally checking out Veep and watching season 1.

I'm kinda confused as poo poo about the wheelings and dealings and my OCDish mind is distracting me from enjoying the show fully.

So in episode 3, the gang decides to go with Farnham on the clean air bill - but both the oil lobby and Sen. Doyle are pissed. So Dan makes a play and satisfies the oil lobby guy Purcell by promising him a back channel to the Veep and then bluffs his way into getting Sen. Doyle to sign off on Farnham.

Cut to episode 4, Chung, and Purcell is apparently on the task force too? And Doyle is pissed? And there's references to Dan just putting Purcell on the task force too? The hell?

Right, I know I should just laugh and let it slide. Its weird though how even in the seventh episode (haven't watched the S1 finale yet) there's several repeated references to there being two oilmen on the commission. I assume one was Farnham and then the white house demanded another, or some such poo poo?

I guess it doesn't matter since the bill went down in flames anyway.

THINK? I DON'T GIVE YOU ENOUGH INFORMATION TO THINK!
It was quick but I loved the scene where the sober lawyer friend is criticizing the family legislation and Selina bites her tongue for a second and contemplates whether or not to retaliate then just can't hold it back and spits some seething line about her being easier to talk to when she's drinking (or something along those lines). This show is so subtle and dense with hilarious moments its great.

Requiescat in pace.
Every player needs to roll with a crew, Ben. That's the truth from the streets.

I really like Hugh Laurie's acting but Tom James seems so goddamn out of place in the Meyer camp. They really made some progress fleshing out his character more last night, but I keep expecting something from him that I can't quite put my finger on. Just look at the way the staff veterans freak out when James announces a controversial position in private, then contrast it when James is finally made aware of how truly awful the leak really was. Is the insanity and incompetence he's been surrounded by going to consume him? Is he going to pull off some kind of coup and take over the ticket? I'm not sure how he'd do that, I think it'd be unprecedented in American politics. Is he going to run far away from this crap, retire from politics again?

I really liked how the episode was bookended by intruders in the White House. All the characters reacting differently to the threat of an armed gunman was hilarious, but Bill Ericsson was the best. "They're just going to keep coming and coming until they kill us all."

I think Tom will drop a crazy bomb or at least a "politcally unacceptable" bomb in the next episode or two. His writing gives me the same vibe as the writing of that crazy fitness trainer from a season ago. Someone predicted that he'd turn out to be gay and that might be a possibility. But then again that might just float around in the same way as the drug stuff from two episodes ago.

Jonah and Richard are indeed a great pairing, I suspect Tom James will somehow wind up as president with Selina demoted to veep.

I'm thinking this. The Thick of It had the switch from Hugh to Nicola, and I get the feeling Tom might be set up to be in the Nicola position, but much much more competent than she ever was, but unlike Hugh they are going to keep Selina around.

He's out of place because he's good at his job. Unlike everyone else on the show. I'm guessing he becomes so popular that he takes over the ticket and Meyer goes back to being VP.
