Unfortunately we don't have any modern Star Wars flying games yet. Flying is pretty fun in the Battlefield games so I think they can pull it off.

Have there been any high quality space battle Star Wars games since Rogue Leader? I don't know if the space battles in Rebel Strike were any good because the unavoidable ground missions were terrible with bad controls and not-fun and I rage quit early on.

Rebel Strike space combat was basically the same as Rogue Leader, it even had the old Rogue Leader missions for co-op mode.

I'm not entirely sure if I would play if there's no republic side. The droids are neat and all but the republic jetpack trooper had a EMP cannon (a skinned rocket launcher) and a pistol you could snipe with. It was an amazing rear end in a top hat class.

This is the closest we're going to get to a 2143 isn't it. :smith:

The 40 player cap seems way too small for big battles like Hoth. Once all the Skygods have finished killing each other for control of the air vehicles you're going to be left with only a handful of bodies for the control point meatgrinder. I'm cautiously unoptomistic.

I remember that leaked Battlefront 3 video from years ago had smooth transition between ground to atmosphere to space, so not having space combat like that is kind of depressing. It'd be pretty cool to have orbital artillery support until the other team boards and destroys your ship.

Battlefront: Renegade Squadron had ground/air/space transitions and player-controlled orbital artillery support and all of it sucked. Rant incoming:

The Orbital Strike Cannon thingy could only hit control points. It could reset a control point it hit to neutral. There were maybe two exposed control points on each map so it was highly situational and basically useless because nine times out of ten the enemy would recapture the point immediately.

The starfighters did less damage and had less health than infantry. One dude downing multiple fighters with a blaster rifle was depressingly common.

The actual space battles were cool because you could board the enemy's capital ship and blow it up-- except for the part where one dude with a rocket launcher could easily neutralize incoming spacecraft except for landing craft, but landing craft usually didn't survive leaving the hangar.

any battlefield game that isn't a mainline battlefield game gets this "criticism" thrown at it. Happened with 2142 and recently Hardline, I have no idea if people are being ironic about it this time around

How, of all Battlefield related games, is this the one that DOESN'T get singleplayer? The one where every drooling idiot and his kid will go DERR WANT TO BE IN DA MOVIES and smack his controller with his lightsaber toy? Seriously, their decision making is hilarious sometimes.

I imagine the expansion packs will be the other movies while the base game is just the OT. :dice: usually has 4-5 expansions focusing on something different each time. Prequels, space battles, alternative versions, and new movie is what I'm guessing.

Personally I'm happy with this. I don't think they'd be able to create a decent story for a campaign, so I'm glad they won't even try. Hopefully it means more resources spent on better gameplay. I'm sure there will be a slew of new Star Wars games with great single player only stories on the horizon, so no need to fret.

I completely agree. I'm sure they can make a functional browser in the game that does the job just fine, and we won't have to suffer from reloading the whole loving game just to switch servers.

I don't care at all either, it's just funny how they've saddled all the recent Battlefield games with single player campaigns no one care about, but in this game where it finally makes sense to add singleplayer they forgo it.

Okay but I can look at all my stats and set up loadouts and do clan/friend stuff and check on servers and wait through a queue all without opening the game which owns. I guess I don't switch servers in the middle of my play sessions very much.

I can kinda get over the one era thing, if they actually provide as much content for it as they did for two eras in the previous games.

To be honest, the last battlefront attempt at FPS space battles basically became 'who could fly to the other hangar first, and blow up the console' rather than any actual space battles. :( And I imagine the AT-AT thing is probably to make programming / balancing them easier.

Sure it would behilarious to just stomp around on everyone and go where you please, but it could go wrong when they hit building geometry. Basically imagine this Broteam video, and the others. But as a full-price release.

I can see the AT-AT on rails working, if they do something like Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. That game had levels where one team had to escort a NPC tank while the other had to destroy it, and the levels were fun as hell. If they they go for objective based maps instead of just control points or team deathmatch my interest will shoot up 10000%. And it is already pretty high.
