i agree, op. its too bad that after 8 years of a democratic president theres been pretty much nothing done on this, and clinton - whose dynasty started modern 'welfare reform' - is extremely unlikely to do anything good either. sometimes i feel like theres only one party in this nation, and its a party for the rich and well connected special interests

Well, this isn't unprecedented, and history offers a solution. 1.) Make alliances and treaties where any violation of the peace means war for everyone (NATO/RF) 2.) Violate aforementioned treaty 3.) Draft a massive army of poor people and train them to run at the other army of poor people in tightly packed formations 4.) Continue until the poors start to get wind of the fact that you're culling them 5.) Declare Victory! Free booze for everyone! Drink up and honor your comrades who died for.... Freedom! 6.) Goodbye budget problems!

pretty much every nation that provides less of a social safety net/public welfare than the united states has far better outcomes
|

i've heard libs say that there aren't "welfare queens" anymore, but that simply isn't true. ie, once you get a Section-8 housing voucher, you can keep it FOR LIFE if you stay below a certain income threshold. ie, it incentivizes ppl not to get better jobs. combine that with food stamps and medicaid, and you have ppl who barely work who are better off than ppl who make like 20k/year and have to pay for their own food, housing, and health care. it's a bizarre system.

TEAYCHES posted:better off than 20k a year?? word??? maybe even 30k, if you think about it. what i'm saying is that you're better off working part time for minimum wage than 40hours/week at 12.50/hour under our current system. that's hosed in a major way.

the most hosed up part of welfare systems, imo, are that nations who have implemented them have such huge underclasses that do nothing but intentionally game the system. i have a swedish friend and he said that at least 30% of their population is living on nothing but government assistance are in lovely metal bands, jerking off and eating free lutefisk all day, everyday. the rest of the population has to support that and every year the population of moochers grows
